Customers regard the GPS function and heart rate monitor as valuable features. Positive feedback highlights the GPS's usefulness for tracking runs and providing location awareness. The heart rate monitor is also praised for its fitness tracking capabilities, although some users note the need for a separate chest strap. Overall, the watch's combination of GPS and heart rate monitoring receives strong approval.
I had a Forerunner 305 GPS for probably about 5 years, and used it a lot for running, biking, and cross country skiing. My only complaint with it is that it is quite large, but is very functional. But the battery was going bad, and so it was time for a new GPS, and I liked the FR15's combination GPS / Activity Tracker. The FR15 is a good, although basic GPS. It lacks the functionality of customizing the GPS screens like you can do on higher end GPS's, and unfortunately it is really made for running, and doesn't really lend itself to nordic skiing and biking. But when you download the activities to Garmin Connect it is easy to change the activity from running to another activity. However, the calorie counter seems to be high for cycling, and probably isn't very accurate. It's probably more accurate for running. I haven't had a chance to use it for nordic skiing yet. If you are going to use the GPS for running only, the screen selections are probably good enough, and I am guessing that the calorie counter is more accurate. If you only want a GPS, and don't care for the activity tracker, probably another GPS will be a better product / value. Likewise, if you are only interested in an activity tracker, and don't care about GPS functionality, you will probably be better served by getting an activity tracker. When selecting this FR 15, I found the following review from DC Rainmaker to be the most helpful. Following is that link: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/06/garmin-forerunner-15-depth-review.html

After reading some reviews I decided to go with the Garmin 15 Watch. The reason I bought this watch was because it has the GPS and heart rate monitor bundle, plus foot pod capable. Lately I have been using it indoors to track my workouts by using the heart rate monitor. This function helps you calculate how much calories you've burned and monitor performance when working out indoors. As for the GPS feature, the Virtual Pacer feature is very good and plan on using it more next season.

...especially with the heart rate monitor option. Add the activity tracker option and this watch is the perfect step up from the FR10. The HR monitor takes a little bit to get used at first but provides a more accurate reading of calorie burn during a run.
