I'm a huge Garmin fan and loved the 405CX for nearly 5 years before deciding to bite the bullet and move up. The 920 is easier to use, it gets satellites much quicker and the heart rate monitor is more comfortable. The price tag is high, but am happy with all the upgraded features.

It was difficult to pull the trigger on this watch being that I never wear watches, but I can tell you that this watch never comes off and I feel lost without it. There are other great watches out there, but I couldn't find any with the versatility of the 920xt. I use this watch every time I train (4-7 times per week) and once synced to your smart phone and garmin connect app your training stats are sent to your phone to track your progress without any annoying cords. I use this watch for running, biking, weight lifting, cross training, skiing, and motocross racing. Go to YouTube to figure out how to add your personal training subjects as I did for skiing, weight lifting, and motocross (it was really simple). Sure you can use plenty of smartphone apps to record nearly the same thing, but phones are expensive, not waterproof/ sweat proof, and I haven't heard of a phone tracking your heart rate (I haven't looked). One last thing, I was fighting the price of the 920xt so I first bought the forerunner 15 which was nice, but battery life, no Bluetooth to garmin connect, and no sports beyond running pushed me towards the 920 and I have no regrets.

I began my triathlon training with this watch. It does everything you need to train right. This past weekend I used it for my first triathlon and the "triathlon" setting worked perfectly. The timing and distances were same as the race chip. Measures cadence, heart rate, vertical oscillation and more, plus it's relatively easy to use.
