Garmin - nüvi 42LM Essential Series - 4.3" - Lifetime Map Updates - Portable GPS - Black

Great basic GPS unit. Got me around CT on my first trip there without having to worry about getting from place to place. Love it.

This GPS unit is easy to use, and seems to be accurate so far. Updates are a breeze, and quick. The only thing that frustrates me is that it is very difficult to remove from the suction cup base. This requires you to remove the entire base from the windshield in order to stow it away, or do updates. This is the only thing that prevents me from giving it a 5 star rating.

This is my second Garmin, my first Garmin was a gift, I loved it! I took it everywhere. Then my maps ran out so I renewed them. It was expensive (over $50). Recently my Maps again expired and when I went online to see if perhaps the price had gone down, (since new ones came with lifetime maps) sadly the cost was the same. So I bought a new Garmin with Lifetime Maps (cheaper than continuously paying for map updates--a lifetime Map update for my old Garmin was only $5 less than the price of a new Garmin. My old Garmin still works great (the maps are expired). I like my new Gatmin, but it wasn't able to give me directions to get out of my friend's neighborhood. It kept saying proceed to the highlighted route. The screen did not show a highlighted route. I had to call a friend for directions. I did like that my new Garmin actually read out the street names, my old one would say, turn right in 100 ft. The new one says turn right on Main St. I also like how it provides me with a picture of exit ramp lanes when I'm driving on the highway.

Bought mine on sale-saved $40, has lifetime maps which is great, no more fees and map always up to date, spoken street names tell you to turn and announces the street name so you make the correct turn, and the split screen showing interstate exits is also very helpful. This was an update for an old Garmin model which bit the dust due to a lot of use and rough handling.

I purchased the Garmin Nuvi 42LM GPS at Christmas. Previously owned a Garmin with 3.5 screen loved it but gave to my daughter, so I replaced it with this one. Cant beat the price $65 with lifetime maps and lane assist. Simple to use and nice to have when traveling to an unfamiliar area.

The gps is very accurate and has an easy to view screen. Perfect for my needs and easy to use. It has many more features than I thought it did when I bought it. The price and the product are excellent.

No complaints - bought one of my daughter some time back and it seemed to do the trick. Working for an extended time in another state/city so I needed something to help me get around. Solid basic unit for the money.

This is my 2nd Garmin and it has been utilized for many family & business road trips. Still a good bargain for the $$ especially if navigation on a cellular phone is unavailable.
