Great Value
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought this laptop a few days ago, and I have to say that I am very impressed with it so far. I made this purchase to replace my 4 year old Gateway laptop that featured a painfully Celeron processor. I never really enjoyed my previous laptop as much as I should have, as I felt limited by its less then stellar performance. I can't compare this laptop to my previous laptop, as these are in totally different classes. I payed $599 on sale in store for this laptop, and I feel that was a awesome value compared to the $1000 I paid for my old laptop. This is also a great value compared to my HP desktop (with an AMD Athlon 64x2 CPU) that I bought little over a year ago. In fact, this laptop is equally as fast my desktop if not faster. It features more system RAM than 1 gig that my desktop came with. The graphics are better then my desktop as well, but I am not one to play a lot of games; but the ones that I have tried work great. I am pretty impressed with the life of the battery when you use the power saver mode. Compared to my old laptop that only lasted about 45 minutes off the charger, this one last about 2.5 hours. As for heat, it does get a bit warm on the left side, but nothing compared to my old laptop which got so hot that you feel it all around the casing. The fan is pretty quiet when it does kick in; but then again my old laptop sounded like a jet gearing up for take off. I liked that it came pre-loaded with Vista Service Pack 1 as that took about 90 minutes to install on my desktop. As for Vista, I actually prefer it to XP. I have it my my desktop, my work computer and now this laptop. THe main hurdle that you have to over come is that you need to configure it with many of the online tweeks that make it run closer to XP. But the overall layout of it is much easier to work with than XP. In fact, when I would use my old laptop that featured XP, I often felt as if I was working slower than on Vista. The other aspect regarding Vista is that people currently have a negative attitude about it. The reality is that this is the same exact attitude that people had about the compatibility issues that XP faced when it was new. Yes, there have been a few older programs that I had from back in the Windows 98 days that won't run on Vista, but other than that I think that it is pretty solid for Windows. I would have liked to have seen the laptop have Bluetooth and wireless N, but those are very small details given the great price that I paid for this. I had been looking at laptops that featured both those features along with the similar HDD and CPU specs that costed over $800 and the extra money just didn't seem worth it for those. Despite not having those, the wireless performance it excellent so far. My major issue with this laptop is that the speakers are a pretty weak. They get pretty distorted if turned up and have way to much treble to them; bass isn't really present. They will do if you don't listen to a lot of music or don't have a well tuned ear; but if you are like me and like high quality sound, you will want to wear head phones. Even though this is my major con for this laptop, it wasn't a deal breaker as I prefer to listen to my music though a true stereo system vs. a computer so they will work for my need. Overall, when you compare this to the HP's and Dell's this is a awesome value. If I hadn't got this laptop, I would have bought an HP as I am not a fan of Dell and I also prefer AMP's processor to Intel's; but that is just personal preference.

Pwnage Computer
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendMMK....so this is one of the best computers i have EVER had. ;) it has sooo much bang for the buck and im so happy that this is the price because with the kind of quality you get with this computer you would think it costs 1000$ when its really half that. vista is amazing and everything runs sooo smoothly.. i would recomend this to anybody in the world becasue it is that good..and for u gaming peeps out there this is a swell buy. it gives amazing framerate and all u need is a wireless mouse and ur ready to dominate..and for u office pros out there, this computer has everything u need.. all u have to do is buy microsoft office but this comp comes with cool features like microsoft movie maker and a high quality web-cam with awesome and fun effects for both voice and looks haha.. also the battery lasts very long for a lithium battery. i can play starcraft on this thing for 3 hours unplugged and i still have like 10 mins after that left. also the wireless is super easy to set up you barely do a thing and it connects with the touch of a button to anything.. the vista features are amazing and omg i love this computer..i could hardly set it down. i give this a 20/5 stars haha..but yea.. this flys through every program and mnultiple games and itunes open it doesn slow down.. sorry if im not making sense there is just so much to write about it hahahah.. oh and last but not least i thought the glossy screen would look bad but it was quite the upgrade from my maat black one..i actually like it was more.. so yea..thats it but there is so muhch more but my hand hurts so stop hesitatiing and go buy this wonderful computer before the price goes up or they run out.. =)

Very Good Laptop for the Price
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI wanted a laptop with a lot of power but at a decent price because I am not that wealthy. This laptop is perfect for me and I will tell you why. I love to surf the web, burn cds, play pc games and this thing can do all that and more. I am able to play Half Life 2 on this without any issues and that's a big plus. You won't be able to play a game like Bioshock on this but it can handle the somewhat older pc games on the market. The 2.0 dual core process with 3 GB of RAM really makes this thing stand out from other laptops of the same price. I don't think I've seen this thing slow down once on me, and I'm not kidding. If someone is looking for a good laptop with some power and for a good price, look no further because this one is sure to please.

Excellent choice so far
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendFirst, the performance is very good especially for the price. Although many haters still despise Vista, it has come a long way with recent patches. Third party hardware driver availability has also improved greatly. I love the small form factor and the screen is bright and sharp. The battery life is adequate for most situations and can vary depending on screen brightness, load and accessories. There are some minor negative points most notably the lack of driver and third party software media. The software media is loaded onto a 20 GB partition and you have to build your own recovery CD's (5 of them) should you need to rebuild your computer. It waists about 8% of your disk capacity. Additionally, there is quite a bit of trial software with short term access periods and gimmicks to try and sell you something you may not want. It is not as bad as some I’ve seen, but there is quite a bit of junk. Most of it can be uninstalled easily, but may be intimidating to the inexperienced user. I think Geek Squad will do this for you and "Optimize" your laptop for a fee. Overall a great value and excellent performance for the price. I wish they would have limited the preinstalled trial software and provided recovery media.

Not pleased.
Posted .No, I would not recommend this to a friendI just bought this computer 2 days ago and exchanged it for an HP today. The performance of the computer was fine and the wireless worked great, but now for the negatives. First, this computer had about a 1 inch (but very thin) defect in the monitor. Just a manufacturing defect, which could have been corrected by an even exchange. But the reasons we went with another computer was that this computer gets VERY hot, even after using it for about 30 minutes. It's definitely uncomfortable on the legs. The other main reason was the display, which was not very bright and crisp. It looked very dull, unless I really angled the monitor, then it looked better. I have a 1.5 year old Toshiba, which I still use every day. The display of the Toshiba looked so much better than the Gateway. Also, the Toshiba doesn't get near as hot. I'm glad I went top-of-the-line with the Toshiba and got 2 GB RAM because it's still very competent today. Finally, why does everyone complain so much about Vista? I've had no real problems, other than about 2 programs that weren't compatible. It took about 2 weeks to get used to, and as long as you have 2+ GB of RAM, performance is good. I've used it for 1.5 years.

it's a good buy
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis is a good laptop to buy because it was cheap, and it has almost everything other laptops has. I reviewed other laptops and found that some of the $1000+ laptops have worse specs than this laptop. The price is very nice around 650 which included tax and shipping. The laptop looks great. It has blue leds that are nicely placed; unlike other laptops that just randomly place their LEDs. There are two things that I didn't find too great with this laptop: heat, and sound. The laptop blows out hot air after just 5 minutes of being turned on; I guess it was in heat... The other thing is the speakers. They're ok for internet videos and windows sounds, they are terrible for movies and musics. I would suggest getting external speakers or headphones. That's all there is to this laptop. One thing I would do is to condition the battery pack before normal operation to get the best performance of it.

Nice laptop
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWhile looking for a small yet affordable laptop, I ran into the T-1628. It only has a 14.1" screen, which makes it relatively small. Combined with it not being very heavy, it's a handy laptop to take with you, while it's not that expensive as many ultra-portables. It has all the features one typically needs, such as wireless, bluetooth, dvd writer, multi-format card reader, a big 250 GB harddisk and it even has a HDMI output. I personally dislike glossy screens, but all laptops just have them... The 3GB of memory are enough for most tasks. The TL-60 dual-core CPU performs very well. I'm not sure whether my laptop was a new one... The box was sealed, but the harddisk already had over 1,500 running hours!!! That is 6 months of running 8 hours per day... The first thing I've done after unpacking it, was formatting the harddisk and installing Gentoo on it ;-)
