    GE makes a nice microwave

We purchased this GE over the stove microwave to replace our previous one that died after 10 years. The quality has gone down, and this model feels more flimsy. The door handle feels like the plastic might break long before the microwave stops working. I am guessing GE has found a better way to make the microwaves, with alternate materials than in the past, thus it seems "cheaper", but might be just as good. That all being said, we are happy with how it looks, and how it cooks, so it is doing what we want. I would recommend this model to others looking to replace GE microwaves, especially over the new fad of having a dial instead of numbers to push. I can only imagine the knobs breaking off, and then how do you sett the time? That was a fear I read in the reviews of the models with the knob.

This is the first over the range one that we have owned. We read reviews carefully and chose GE because they were rated so high and the microwave has proven those reviews to be true. The reheat feature is just awesome. The first time we tried it I thought this will never work, but the pasta we were reheating was hot and not dry and over or under cooked. Popcorn is also self-timing and worked great. The only thing that I still stall on is that the start button is not larger or in a more obvious spot on the panel. We installed the microwave two months ago and are happy with the purchase.

I recently updated my kitchen with new GE Appliances. I was originally going to order the microwave a notch under this one but my husband convinced me to go with this one. There are a couple of things annoy me about this but that is just because I am a creature of habit. I don't like to let it beep once it is done so I am usually there and ready to hit CANCEL. On this microwave the button is where the Add 30 Seconds button is located. As you might guess, I keep hitting the wrong one. On the bright side, you can turn off the beep. I have not gotten used to the Express Cook buttons and should probably read the manual to get a better understanding of the options.

The light hangs down to low under the unit, and on the inside it looks like a piece of cardboard on the right side which covers the vent. The door is very flimsy when you open and close it sounds very loud, not nice and quite like my old GE. I do not like the dark color on the inside and the light is very small so it is dark inside.

      GE Answers

Hello 1542 - thank you for providing a review of your over-the-range microwave. We're sorry to hear that it hangs too low. It should be installed so the top of the microwave is at least 66" from the floor. The cardboard is there by design. The cardboard (mica) covers the waveguide system that feeds microwave energy into the cavity and should not be removed. The microwave should not be used for any function if this cardboard cover is not in place. If removed, it would require service to replace. The difference in the door noise is due to a firmer spring in the door latch; this is a normal condition for the microwave. You can lift up on the latch to feel the tension. We appreciate your feedback regarding the door color and light and will share same with our product team Thanks for your feedback and for choosing GE Appliances! NANCYatGEA GE_Appliances

I installed this OTR microwave. Install needed 2 people as expect, not hard to install. Took about 1 hour. I did need to rotate the dan blower to the front exhaust. Tried heating 1 cup of water. Horrible rattling noise sounded like a space shuttle launching in my kitchen. I took it down, brought it back. Best Buy in Enfield was wonderful. I now have a whirlpool which is fantastic

This microwave not only looks good but it is smart. If you set the microwave without the food, it will prompt you. That's a nice feature. I like the microwave very much. It is very quiet and warms food fast! The interior looks nice and easy to clean. No plastic white interior stuff in this model.

Nice looking microwave but the auto fan had ran for days. This is not the vent fan but a built in auto fan that kicks on. Now the turn table doesn't work so I don't know if we got a defective machine but still not fixed yet. Geek squad didn't schedule my 1st appt now I have to wait another week for a new appt

It works fine with the exception of every single time the electricity is shut (off by the wall switch) the clock has to be reset before it will cook. Ours is such that a under counter light stays on unless we turn the wall switch off which also controls the microwave. SO,, every single time we have to reset the clock before it will cook. Our old microwave did not do that.
