      Great compact washer, poor service

      I chose Best Buy to purchase a new washer based on its positive customer service reviews. I had been researching and shopping for a compact washer for almost a year. The sales representatives in appliances were very nice and helpful, however they didn't answer all of the important questions correctly (such as, "does the washer plug into its matching dryer"). This was a yes but when it was delivered I found out that I had to run an extension cord from the laundry closet in order to plug in my new dryer. Also, the stacking kit was sold to me (since I had the dryer) and confirmed delivery was on the same day as the washer, however, I got an email the day before delivery saying it was out of stock. This meant that I had to search hardware stores in our region to find one and drive to get it. I called the customer service at BB to discuss this, they said they could give me a $25 gift card but that the store could do better. They were not able to phone the store because it was Black Friday and suggested I go into the store the next week to see what they can do. When the delivery man arrived (20 minutes before the 2 hour window was up), he was very curt and repeatedly told me I had the wrong vents (I was sold two different styles by the sales rep at BB) but couldn't show me anywhere on BB's website what the right type of vent was. He did get a little nicer but ended up damaging one of the vents "to make due until I got the correct one." I ended up signing the paper saying that it was installed to my expectations only to get him out of my house... He made me feel bad that I didn't have the proper vent, etc.. I went into the store that next week, the supervisor helped me by drafting a request for them to look into this. It took an hour. She said someone would be contacting me to discuss my experience, however I never heard from anyone. I did get an email with a $25 credit but am not sure if that was related. I thought the least they could do would be to call like she promised, after all $25 was what was offered to me before I made a special trip to BB to discuss. So. Long story short. I am happy with the washer although it does quite a bit of rocking around on the spin cycle. Even though I went to BB in the first place because I thought they had good customer service, I think it could use some work. I was not very pleased with my overall experience.

      WORST washer I've ever used

      I'm 50 years old and have used MANY washers in my life. This one has been nothing but a headache for over a year. ONE of the many repairmen who have been out here told me that it's "Balance Sensors" are the most delicate ever made. You can't mix weights of clothing; you have to wash light clothes together & heavy clothes together or you'll mess up its ultra-sensitive sensors--and it will either keep retrying to spin or it will do what it's now started doing: It just STOPS. (Oops, it just did it again while I was writing this!!!!). The first time I noticed was after I had used it a month and it was taking appx. TWO hours to wash a ONE hour load. Now it's started just plain shutting off the past week, even though I'm washing clothing of similar weight. I rearrange the clothes and restart it, and the same thing happens. I tried running it through an EMPTY cycle and it did the same thing! I spent a fortune on a service warranty because I knew it was a lemon, but GE refused to replace it. I will NEVER buy another GE product again. This washer is GARBAGE. I wonder how many people who gave it a good review when they first got it have taken the time to write a second review after having it awhile? I'm having to wait SIX DAYS for a repairman to come out this time. Who's going to wash my clothes in the meantime?!?! (BTW, I've been meaning to write this review for a LONG time now and am finally furious enough to take my precious time to do so--to perhaps save a few people from having to deal with this awful machine.) Oh, and another thing: You have to wipe the rubber door gasket after EVERY wash or it will MOLD. And the second time a repairman was out here he discovered that the Best Buy installers had placed the washer on top of its electrical cord, hence adding to any imbalance. One of the repairmen told me that THIS delicate washer has to be on a PERFECTLY level surface or it won't operate properly.

      OK, I was looking for a replacement compact washer after my Bosch unit died. The Bosch unit was excellent for 6 years but broke the spider that holds the drum. It also had a belt drive which left all kinds of belt dust everywhere. I tried to fix it but was blown away by the amount of sludge/scum behind the drum. It was garbage and impossible to fix at a reasonable price. So I did my research and found the GE unit to be direct drive (no belt) and a much better design for serviceability. It also has a drum wash cycle which I highly recommend to anyone. Only issue I have is the balance cycle (also known as the spin cycle). Here the drain pump turns on and off frequently until the washer finally decides the load is safe enough to spin at high speed. The pump is very noisy and goes on ~15 times before clothes start to spin. The Bosch unit was much quieter overall but the mechanical design was poor. So far, the GE works well but it's only been a few months. I bought the five year warranty just in case as I also saw that other owners had spiders brake on them after three years.

      Good compact stacking washer

      Like everyone else, we were limited in the size due to a small laundry closet in our condo. The previous W/D set were from LG which had been typical high quality, so we were a little wary of buying a GE especially given some of the more negative reviews. After two weeks we are very happy with the purchase. The front of the washer is a little less "curved" than our LG set, and less than most compact W/D sets. This allows you a little bit of extra room in back for hookups, and we used every inch. After all the warnings about this washer vibrating unless perfectly balanced we were a little worried but the BB installers did a good job, and this washer seems to be much quieter at high speed than the LG, and less prone to shaking if unbalanced. The controls are very clearly marked and intuitive, changing settings is very easy, and the countdown clock is accurate. One very minor nit: after a cycle is finished, you have to remember to turn the machine off by pressing the power button. Our previous LG set turned off when finished. Otherwise , a great compact washer so far.

      This product is garbage. Both the washer AND dryer broke within six months. The repair man told us the dryer should have been recalled as he had replaced the same part on several dryers, after GE sold this product to Haier, which is the cheapest manufacturer in the industy. The service was terrible. Despite being under warranty, we had to pay $150 because the washer and dryer were stacked, and required two people on site to do the repair. OF COURSE THEY ARE STACKED, that is why we bought them. These are not GE appliances they are Haier, which is the cheapest manufacturer in the industry.

      Worst Wash Machine In History


      The door latch broke one year and 6 days after purchase. 6 days out of warranty and will not cover. 250 dollar part and 75 minimum labor. The part broke under warranty and they jiggled the wires to get it to work and it worked. Pathetic service and will never ever buy again. 1800 dollars for a piece of junk. Yes I am upset, but as little as this thing is, and bad as it is. Mold is growing in the bleach dispenser, I continually have to spray it with a spray, anyone with one should check this area for mold growth as I am confident it will be there.

      We installed this in a renovated utility room and stacked it with the matching dryer. We love it! There are lots of choices for cycles and options to change water temp, spin speed, etc. It cleans very well. We have not had an odor issues, but we do leave the door open and it is located in a well ventilated area. Read the manual before you start operating to help you select the cycles that will work best for you. The unit, though small, can handle surprisingly large loads. I did purchase the extended warranty, however, as any issue with the electronic control panel is likely to be expensive.

      Do NOT buy


      I just bought this washer a little over a year ago and the washer wont event start a wash anymore. A repair guy came out and said I needed to replace the computer board but that may be even caused from another issue. He made it seem like it was a mistake to buy GE. This is a complete waste of money DO NOT BUY GE. Do not be mistaken by all the positive reviews, I have no idea where they even come from. Rather than feeling like you should have to buy their warranty, just buy something else!
