Customers have good things to say about the 5.0 Cu. Ft. 13-Cycle Top-Loading Washer's cleaning ability and large capacity, noting that it handles big loads well and is easy to use. However, some customers reported that the machine can be quite loud during operation, particularly during the spin cycle, and that it sometimes struggles to maintain balance, especially with heavier items. The spin cycle options were also criticized by some users. Overall, the washing performance and capacity are highlighted as positive aspects, while noise level and balance issues are frequently mentioned as drawbacks.

I purchased this washing machine because the one I had was about to break down. I had called a service person to come take a look at my front loader which I had owned for 7 1/2 years. The machine tub had been making really loud sounds when in its spin cycle, like I thought it was going to spin out of the machine and fly out of the laundry room through the wall. Thankfully that didn't happen, but the repair person said this is typical, and that most front loader washers only last 5-8 years. This was my second front loader washer in about 15 years, so I was ready to go back to the top loader anyway. I asked the guy what brand he would recommend, since he fixes these things every day. He said General Electric, as he hardly ever gets calls for those. I went online and did some research, and came up with this new GE model that isn't even in stock anywhere. I found one review online, and it was very positive, so that was good enough for me. I went in to Best Buy and ordered it, it was three weeks out, but that was ok. I told my family to cool it on throwing so many things in the hamper until we get the new machine as the old one could break at any time, and who knows what that would entail. Best Buy came as scheduled, letting me know when they would be at my house, almost to the minute. That was really appreciated! The delivery people were as nice as could be. I didn't buy a new dryer, because last time I bought a new dyer just to match the new washer, there was nothing wrong with it. This time I'll stick with my old dryer until it kicks the bucket. They got that old machine out and set me up and made sure I was happy with their set up. Now about the machine itself: I chose this machine because of its capacity, it's huge. It is so deep, that I have put some old cooking tongs in the laundry room to grab up little things like socks that I can't quite get at the bottom of the tub. (For the record, I'm 5'-2"). But that's ok, because this thing is huge! It took a little bit to figure out all of the different features, but mostly I stick with a cold water wash. I really like the feature where I can just fill up the detergent reservoir and it dispenses it as needed. I wasn't sure about how good that would be since I have a water softener, but so far I haven't noticed anything negative. (Water softener water requires less detergent than untreated, hard water.) The Wi-Fi connect feature is also cool, but there's hardly any information on that in the manual, which is odd. I went online and found info on YouTube. It is pretty neat to get an alert on my iPhone that my laundry is going to be done in 5 minutes, or that the load has just finished. Or that my load has been finished and has been sitting there for 30 minutes. Oops. As far as the lid being glass, I don't thing it needs to be. When the machine is on, you can't really see the clothes because the glass is all fogged up anyway. And the "soft close" function, not sure what that's all about, but I definitely have to close it myself. I've only had the machine for eight days, but so far it's been a great addition to my laundry room.

We chose this washer based on reviews both here and at other sites but had to buy it sight unseen as we couldn't find any store that actually carried it in stock. Our reasons for picking it were that it was a high efficiency top loader and that it had a detergent reservoir. We have a lot of smart home doodads so it having that was nice but not on our "must have" list. In practice, the smart app and notifications are fine but not great and it lacks the one thing I thought it would have which is an indicator for the amount of detergent in the reservoir. First impressions were that the controls felt more positive and direct than I expected. I feared the buttons would be strictly capacitive but these are membrane covered physical buttons that you can tell you're pressing. The dial is easy to turn but doesn't feel loose or wobbly however it's not the absolute best feeling dial we felt on a washer. Operation is standard for a HE washer and it seems to do as good a job as any other. Having had bad luck in the family with the reliability of Samsung and LG appliances we wanted to avoid them, but I've only had this for a couple days and can't say whether this GE is better or worse though I can say the UI "feel" of the washer is somewhat less impressive than either of those two brands. Lastly I'll reiterate what other reviews have mentioned: My wife is short and has trouble reaching the bottom of the washer. If you're under, say, 5'6", you'll also need a stool or a stick to get stuff out.

I had a front loader which I hated. Not enough water and too small. I was looking for a large capacity top loader and this washer seemed to get the best if not the MOST reviews. It's expensive. It's very nice with several wash cycle options. It holds a LOT. Since it has a bottom flattened agitator I always use the soak function to maximize cleaning and this works VERY WELL. It's a tad noisy on the spin cycle. I don't connect it to the internet because I don't need to know that badly when it is done :) Very happy with my purchase.
