- A: AnswerThere are a couple of versions of the Opal out there. I just picked up the Opal 2.0 which is an improved version and seems to work quite well. One way you can differentiate the units is the 2.0 version has touch button sensors on the front for the power, light and cleaning cycle. If you are really concerned you can get the extended warranty through Best buy. Although I have not used the extended warranty on this unit I have used it on my Samsung refrigerator's ice maker and found the service to be quite good.

Q: QuestionDo you leave it running all of the time or do you turn it off?(13 answers)
A: AnswerThere is an app you can use to set a schedule. We schedule ours to turn off after dinner, then have it turn on early in the morning so that there's plenty of fresh ice when we wake up.Answered by Kelly
- A: AnswerHere are the major differences: - The casing corners are now rounded - The circle LED indicator has been replaced by "touch-sensitive" buttons on the front, as well as distinct word labels stating what the appliance is doing. This includes replacing the rear slider switch for cleaning with touch-button functionality in the front - The plastic ice bin no longer has holes along the rear-bottom; a spring-loaded hole has been added that opens only when the bin is slid all the way into the appliance, thereby preventing drips when fully removing the bin - Overall, the appliance does appear quieter, though that's more subjective - Biggy: when draining the water while cleaning, it completely dumps in about 30 seconds. Previous units took minutes to do this. I hope this helps!

Q: QuestionKeeps saying add water(21 answers)
A: AnswerI contacted the Opal Service Techs at 866-907-6718 to inquire about the same issue and these are the instructions they sent me via email. I hope this information is helpful if you are experiencing this issue. “Thank you for contacting us regarding your Opal Nugget Ice Maker! If the water well is filled to the upper fill line and no ice is being produced, please perform this simple test: 1. Please start the Opal and switch to cleaning mode. Don't forget to detach the side tank. 2. Remove the screen/filter at the bottom corner of the reservoir, exposing the small white rubber inlet used for water circulation. 3. Make certain that the Opal is not connected to the phone app and that the water well is filled to the upper fill line with distilled water. 4. Remove the ice bin and press the button to see if the Opal pumps water. This could take up to 5 minutes to start. 5. Plug the small inlet with your finger for 10-15 seconds to create a vacuum within the pump/circulation system. 6. Release the plug and wait a minute or until you see water movement. 7. If you do not see a change, you may want to repeat these steps a couple of times. 8. Please reply to this email and advise what you see...water is flowing down the back of the trough or there is no water movement at all. 9. If you see water movement, please switch to ice mode and run for 30 minutes. Please reply directly to this email with the results. To serve you and others in a timely manner, your ticket will be closed after 5 days if we receive no response. - A: AnswerWe have this same problem. We have had ours for about 4 months. It worked great for a few months and we never ran out of ice. Now it gets about a quarter of the way full and goes into defrost most. Huge pain!
Answered by Mmoren
- A: AnswerThough it is kind of a pain, cleaning it weekly like the manual recommends really keeps the motor running smoother and the fan more quiet. When ours starts making louder noise, a thorough cleaning quiets it down. The machine will also last much much longer by doing the cleaning regularly.
Answered by BlueSky
- A: AnswerThe bin is not refrigerated. The melted ice drains back into the water reservoir and is recycled. No need to dump any water.

- A: AnswerLeave it plugged in. Mine did this & I thought it was broken, even called customer service. After just leaving it plugged in about 2-3 hours...... it started out of nowhere
