John Irvin's big-screen adaptation of Peter Straub's horror novel Ghost Story arrives on DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, but this film has never looked better on home video.
If you are looking for a really scary film that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled, this is not the movie for you. If however you are looking for a more relaxed, popcorn thriller, with mostly great special effects this is worth a watch. The acting is top notch and the big four really deliver. Ghost Story has never looked better. The picture is crystal clear and the audio is magnificent. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star review is the ending to the film. It comes across as very flat and doesn't really pay off to the level that is has built. Having said that, it is still a fun film and one you will enjoy even more if you have proper expectations.
Ghost Story has some great old time actors, and the lady that played the Borg Queen in Star Trek, Alice Krige. I found the movie quite interesting and at times scary. See it with a partner late at night with the lights off.
