Goes without saying it was a nightmare being able to actually buy this GPU - Took almost a month to actually get lucky enough to make it through checkout. Performance for both traditional and VR using Oculus Rift S is really awesome. Consistently get 100+ FPS with most games on a 120Hz display. Only complaint it is super long, and impacts 3 HDD slots in my system. Not the end of the world, but would prefer it to be about an inch shorter. But it keeps cool, and the fans aren't loud, so clearly optimized design for cooling.

I really wanted to love this 3080, and don't get me wrong the performance is great. The cooler design looks cool, is quiet, and effective. The RBG on the outside is a nice touch without being too flashy. But, Gigabyte has a pretty serious issue when it comes to this specific card. The thermal pads on the memory were defective casing the card to overheat and thermal throttle. Under load, memory temps would spike to 110 C causing the card to slow down. The card also doesn't come with any thermal pads between the back of the PCB and the backplate, so the back plate is basically useless outside of looks. After discovering the thermal issues, I replaced the thermal pads on the memory and added thermal pads to the back and saw significant performance improvement. This was only about a $20 fix, but on an $800 GPU, I would expect better from the factory. Here's the jist: The 3080 is a beast of a card if you're lucky enough to get one, but if you have the choice, I'd go with a different variant and save yourself some hassle.

The hype is real. The 3080 is by far the most powerful card I've ever owned. Its VERY large though so take that into consideration if you have a smaller case. I have a full size keyboard with a numpad and it's nearly the same size lol (see pics). But if you have the money, a case to fit it in, at least a 750w power supply and a decent cpu (i would recommend at least a 5800x, 5900x or 5950x) to pair it with, then you're going to be enjoying the most premium of premium gaming experiences.
