Better sound than I expected. Plus simple to use.
Posted .Forget Bluetooth. This is so much better. Uncompressed high quality sound that doesn't drop out. I downloaded Google's Play Now program on my PC, and it grabbed my entire iTunes library and loaded it up into Google's cloud. Now I've got access to all my music, plus tons of other music -- all at high bit-rate and uncompressed. Hookup and use are simple. My wife loves it (she never never used Bluetooth). When their multi-room software update comes out in a month or two, it's hard to see why anyone would choose a more expensive alternative. A true giant-killer product for 35 bucks.

Great product.
|Posted .Well done Google. Product is well built -- even though is plastic -- but it pairs nice with other audio gear. I left mine alongside with my guitar and other audio stuff, since they're at another room. So whenever I want to listen to Google Music -- Bang -- it is quite easy to launch it with my Galaxy phone. Installation was quite easy as well. My recommendation is planning in advance. This was an important piece for my gear collection.

Nice update for old hifi gear
|Posted .The Chromecast Audio provides streaming capabilities to old hifi equipment/speakers that do not have Bluetooth capability. Sound quality with the bundled audio cable is ok. Would have been nice if they included the toslink cable or 3.5mm to RCA cable.

Fantastic Device!!!
|Posted .So simple and does exactly what it describes. Very easy setup. (I did have to call my A/V receiver manufacturer 4 help W/their setup) Once connected & downloaded Google Cast App device went right to work. All my music Apps working seamlessly! Thanks Google.

So awesome
|Posted .We are music-lovin' fools and have been trying to create a cheep sonos for years. This is the ticket. Anything you own with an auxiliary input is in sync.

Overall not bad
|Posted .it is a super fast way to add whole home audio to existing speakers and audio systems. The quality is decent enough that you can tell a difference depending upon the quality of your speakers.

Q: QuestioniTunes support? The guy at the Best Buy store said I could use chromecast audio with my iPad Mini and my MacBook Air. But I did some research at home and it looks like chromecast audio DOES NOT support iTunes, which is what I want to use it for. (I've loaded a bunch of my CDs into iTunes and want to play them through my amplifier.) Before I load any apps, I want to be sure chrome cast audio supports iTunes. Can anyone confirm that it does or does not support iTunes on an iPad Mini or MacBook Air?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer He's right that it doesn't support iTunes -- but no problem. Download the free version of Google Play Music and it will grab all your iTunes library and load it into a Google cloud automatically. It will even grab new songs as you add them to iTunes. Then use the Play Music App on your Mini or Air to play your iTunes songs through Chromecast Audio. Works great. Nice interface too. The alternative is an App called Plex, which also works, but I like Play Music just fine.

Q: QuestionIs the power cord just for charging the Chromecast device, or does it need to be plugged in for power to operate?
Asked by gotero.
- A:Answer CCA device has NO battery. It only works when fed by 5volt USB. It also only works when logged onto wifi. An external USB battery or a speaker with a USB port would run it untethered to the wall.

Q: QuestionCan the GCA plug into a receiver (Yamaha) so I can play music through multiple speakers? If so, how? Diagram shows device plugging into back of speaker only.
Asked by JohnS.
- A:Answer You sure can, I have it plugged into my Sony receiver. You'll need a 3.5mm (plugs into the Chromecast) to RCA cable (plugs into one of your receivers audio inputs), download the Google home app to configure it, and use a streaming service to play through it (I use Spotify). Then if you have another able speaker /receiver, you can hook up another Chromecast to it and stream in perfect harmony.

Q: QuestionCan I cast to 2 different receivers at the same time?I have 2 receivers- 1 in my bar/game room and 1 in the living room. I would love to be able to listen to the same thing throughout the house (yes they are on the same wireless network) if I hooked these up to both AUX ports in the receivers could I cast to both at the same time so I would have everything play throughout the house?
Asked by TJ.
- A:Answer Now that Chromecast Audio has a "multi-room" feature, yes you can absolutely do this. Just open up the Chromecast app and create an "audio group", see https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6328691 for more. I did this in my house and it sounds great!

Q: QuestionStream to Original Chromecast and Chromecast Audio at the same time?I have a Chromecast plugged into my TV HDMI... If I buy a Chromecast Audio and plug it into a remote speaker will I be able to stream to both devices at the same time, or will I need to purchase a second Chromecast Audio for use with my sound bar???
Asked by Spike.
- A:Answer You will need an additional CCA, the original chromecast cannot be grouped with the audio version. However the # of audio versions grouped together appears to be limitless.

Q: QuestionDoes this work well for vacations? We would want to connect to hotel or resort wifi and use with a portable speaker. Some places require login to access internet and smaller ones dont.
Asked by Grannygeek.
- A:Answer Now that you are able to setup a discreet network between your mobile device, or tablet, and the Chromecast Audio, this is an awesome option for vacationing.

Q: QuestionI wish to rip my CDs into hi-res audio (96KHz/24-bit). Is there a Chromecast-enabled hi-res media manager available?
Asked by whootowl.
- A:Answer CD audio is 44.1kHz/16-bit. If you rip it any higher you are just wasting disk space and not adding anything to the quality. The only way to get higher resolution audio than a CD is if the copyright holder decides to make it available in a format other than CD. This tends to be pretty rare and/or expensive. The only music store I know of for this is HDtracks.

Asked by Jason.
- A:Answer The Chromecast works well with Google Home. It has a 3.5mm stereo plug, so you can easily adapt it to whatever plug type your aux plug requires.
