A: This product has a built-in battery that cannot be changed. The battery pack will not fit this product.
A: This is an excellent choice for a young action videographer. It is durable and it takes great video. The model that you choose depends on how you intend to use it. If your son is just going to mount it on his skateboard, bike, or helmet, then there is no need for the LCD to help frame the shots. You can get the less expensive Hero+. If he doesn't have an iPad, iPod, iPhone or Android device to control it via WiFi or Bluetooth, then you can get the base model Hero. That's the real difference between the Hero, Hero+, and Hero+LCD. There are other difference in the base Hero like the slow motion setting is only available at lower resolution and it also takes lower resolution stills and lower bit rate video. So the Hero is more limited shooting and no Wifi or Bluetooth and the Hero+ and Hero+LCD take higher quality video and stills and only differ in the LCD. If he is going to use it as a hand-held camera I would definitely get the Hero+LCD.
Q: is it normal for screen to go blank when recording?
A: Yes just tap the screen and it will come back on, it will still record even when the screen is black
Q: So it ways waterproof down to 131' so can you scuba dive with the case it comes with?
A: As with all waterproof case use the case under water without the camera in it to see if is going to leak. If it does bring it back and see if you exchange it for a new one.
A: Yes, the camera connects to the iPad via Bluetooth and wireless connection. We have not even used a computer yet. The basic HERO model does not have this functionality though. You have to at least have the LCD version.
A: You can check out the specs online at GoPro.com. I think they have the same video quality. The advantage of the LCD screen model is you can see what you are videoing or taking a picture of. Also, the LCD model connects via Bluetooth and wireless to an iPad or iPhone so you can view the videos or pictures on your device. You can also view what the camera sees. This made the LCD version the better one to buy. I hated the extra cost though! It makes it much easier to use. Otherwise you would have to hook up to a computer or take out the SD card to view pictures and video since the basic HERO model is not compatible with the App.
Q: Is there a place to see when battery is getting low ? Can you over charge the battery ?
A: Yes, the battery indicator is on the front LCD display at the bottom right. No, you cannot overcharge the battery. It will stop charging when it's full and maintain a change if it continues to be connected to a power source.
Q: Which GoPro would be most compatible with use on motorcycle? How do you mount?
A: All of the GoPro's use the same mounting hardware so it doesn't matter which one you buy, they are all compatible with the handlebar mounts. You would purchase a handlebar mount separately. Many combination mount kits include several mounts including those for handlebars. The other question is do you need to see what you are shooting or just want to point it forward and record? If you think you need to frame the shot first, then get a model that has an LCD. Otherwise the base Hero would be fine for just point and shoot.
