Good release from beginning to end
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The latest album from Deftones is a very good release from a band that knows who they are and continues to deliver the goods. If you're a fan and enjoy the work that they've put out, you shouldn't be disappointed. However, there are some who have critiqued the album for a number of reasons: the relative lack of screaming, a shortage of memorable songs, a lack of taking chances with their sound. Chances are, you're a fan of the old school 'Tones if you're in the first group, a fan of the newer releases (particularly Koi No Yokan, which notched several popular songs on rock radio) if you're in the second, or enjoy White Pony & Saturday Night Wrist the most if you are in the last group. It may take a few more listens for it to sink in, but Gore is a very good release even if it may not satisfy some of the fans of particular eras of the band. My hope is that they will continue to evolve, and that Stephen Carpenter (who has been as instrumental as anyone in giving the band their unique sound) will have a bit more of a creative role going forward on the next release. That said, this album is intense, interesting, and has many tracks that will likely become fan favorites even if this may not be their heaviest or most innovative or radio-friendly album. Recommended if you're a fan, though I would suggest White Pony or Around The Fur for those who are unfamiliar with the band first.

Melodic yet brutal!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The deftones have been around for a long time, but every album sees a change in sound that keeps the band sounding new yet maintaining the sound that is distinctly their own. 'Gore' is no exception. Lead singer Chino Moreno reportedly was listening to Morrissey heavily to get some inspiration this time around . This seems to indeed be the case, as the album has a more laid back vibe than the last few albums have. While this might alienate fans looking for the next 'adrenaline', the sound cultivated here is one of a more mature aggression. Prayers/Triangles is atypical of this album... heavy in a sonically dissonant way. The same can be said of hearts and wires. There is an inherent beauty in the music, but underneath lies a simmering tension that makes the song just... angry. This could be due to the contentious recording process that saw Chino and the guitar player, Stephen Carpenter, clashing over what this album should sound like. This competitive discord bleeds through marvelously into the record. Oh and there is a song that features some great guitar work by some guy named Jerry Cantrell as well. While this album is not as quick or easy a listen as some of their early stuff(there are no 'Change in the house of flies' type of song anywhere to be found) , if you give it a couple listens, it's melody and spirit will no doubt leave a lasting impression on you.

Excellence, Exploration from Deftones
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gore is one of the best albums that Deftones have put out to date. There isn't a single filler track on this album. The songs take a little while to truly sink in, and might challenge expectations with a few unusual song structures- but once the play button is pressed, the album simply pulls you through all 11 tracks. I have been re-listening to this album since I bought it, and it gets better each time through. The experimentation in these songs only adds to the replay value. Containing all of the dynamics that listeners have grown to love about this band- heavy, melodic, aggressive, energetic, melancholy, and more- Gore also has some interesting twists that, while maybe not initially expected, work incredibly well (for example, Jerry Cantrell's appearance on the track "Phantom Bride". It is a remarkable achievement for a band to continue to progress and release such high-quality music so late in their career, but that's what's awesome about Deftones- they only get better with age.

Iceland - Deftones Gore - Rock Legends
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm going to Iceland in June for a much needed vacation, and I will be catching the Deftones & Radiohead Secret Solstice Festival. They're my two top favorite artists so I can't wait to hear both bands' new material live for my 1st time! I've seen both live before, and they are some of the best performers (in completely different ways of course) that are still touring these days! Oh ya... By the way.... Buy this album!!! Watch it grow quickly on you, watch them impress the world with how talented they still are... Gore shows us that Deftones are rocking out in their 40's without missing a beat! As sang and warned in the early day: "You don't.. Wanna f*** wit Chino! Cuz Chino.. Will f***ing kill you!" Rock on! \m/

Another great one! Dont miss it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Deftones are at again with great screaming vocals and jut the right amount of guitar and keyoard to make not only Deftones fans happy but newcomers as well. Gore is a fascinating album of great chords as on Phantom Bride and Hearts/Wires . The title track is awesome in Gore as well as Acid Hologram where Chino Moreno really howls. This album is not to be missed. Plus a guest appearance by Alice in Chans Jerry Cantrell.

Totally worthwhile.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I gave it four stars because the previous two albums were incredible. This is a new chapter for a fantastic band, and there are some great songs here, but I feel they have some room for developing this new direction. Not let down at all, just anticipating what is next.

Strong Release
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Deftones continue to dominate in the hard rock/alternative category with this strong release. Recommended tracks: Acid Hologram, and Phantom Bride, which features Jerry Cantrell from Alice In Chains on guitar. Sound quality is solid and very clear. Does not disappoint.

good, not great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good album. Since it'd Deftones, however, I hold them to a higher standard. Compared to their last 2 CDs, this one isn't as good. It's a very good album, but there is now WOW factor like the Deftones albums DIAMOND EYES, WHITE PONY, and ADRENALINE.
