"Don't expose him to bright light. Don't ever get him wet. And don't ever, ever feed him after midnight." This sage advice is ignored midway through Gremlins, with devastating results. This comic Joe Dante effort is set in a Norman Rockwell-esque small town at Christmastime. Seeking a unique gift for his son an erstwhile inventor (Hoyt Axton) purchases a cute, fuzzy little "Mogwai" from a Chinatown shopkeeper's (Keye Luke) grandson (John Louie), who dispenses the above-mentioned warning before closing the deal. Meanwhile, young bank clerk Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan) must suffer such antagonists as rich-bitch Mrs. Deagle (Polly Holliday) and priggish Gerald (Judge Reinhold) while pursuing his romance with Kate (Phoebe Cates). These and a variety of other plot strands are tied together when the lovable mogwai (named Gizmo) is exposed to bright light and gotten wet. In short order, the town is invaded by nasty, predatory Gremlins, who lay waste to everything in sight as Billy and Kate try to contain the destruction. Like most of Joe Dante's works, Gremlins is chock-full of significant cameo appearances: in this instance, such pop-culture icons as Dick Miller, Jackie Joseph, Chuck Jones, Scott Brady, Harry Carey Jr., Steven Spielberg (the film's executive producer) and even Robby the Robot all show up briefly on screen.~Hal Erickson

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.
this is the 3rd time purchasing this movie, this 4k version is the best of the three: dvd/blu-ray hd/blu-ray 4k.
Was a great purchase, and the steelbox limited art was the icing on the cake.
Can't wait for best buy's 4k steelbox release of Gremlins 2: The New Batch 4k
A classic 80s movie. A fun Christmas story with a little bit of horror that starts with a cute pet mogwai named Gizmo till water spills on him and start mayhem in a small town. Always follow the rules!
I was born in the mid 80's so during the 90's most of these films were on Cable TV. I remember seeing this many times before but never actually owning it. I was close to buying the Diamond luxe edition of the film but something held me back. I'm glad i did as this movie has been remastered from the original 35MM film to 4K. I compared the included blu ray (which has all the special features) to the 4K disc and there is a significant difference to the two. For starters the 1080p blu-ray has a brighter picture but the 4K color's shine a whole lot more. The DTS-HD 5.1 sound is good but you can hear that this movie was done in the 80's has sound effects sound outdated. Overall this classic has never looked better and it's a must have for any fan for 80's movie, predating CGI graphics and the PG-13 rating which was created in 1984 after this films release.
In my home this is considered must-watch around Christmas time. The 4K image is a great upgrade from the outdated blu-ray, though please don’t expect it to look like a new movie. It looks about as good as it can. I wish there were more special features though.
