Finally, GH for the PC!
Posted .I gave a friend Rock Band for the XBox 360 for Christmas, and I got hooked on guitar gaming after playing with him. However, I own the original XBox so there was no guitar game I could play at home - but now there's an answer for PC gamers! My system is not a rocket box but it's good for gaming (P4 HT 3.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM, GeForce 7600 GS 512MB) and the game runs nicely at minimum settings (800 x 600, low graphics detail, no crowd or physics). This probably has more to do with the fact that my processor is technically below the minimum required (as it is not a dual core) than any fault of the game itself. The gameplay is fantastic and addictive - I've spent most of my free time playing this game since I bought it. The song selection is good - some classics, some new songs; but most of the unlockable bonus songs are ones I'd never heard of before (though I really like a few of them anyhow!). I would prefer a selection that more closely reflects the iconic songs of rock and showcases true guitar wizardy; barring that, I'd be happy if I could download some new songs - hopefully we'll see that option in the near future. All in all, I give this game the thumbs-up. If you don't have a PS2, PS3 or XBox 360, you'll find this a satisfactory and enjoyable alternative - though now that my appetite has been whetted, I plan to buy a PS2 and all of the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games for it.

Awesome Experience
Posted .I'll just get to the point: This is an incredible game and the fact that it was ported to the PC was an amazing job by Aspyr. There are some minor bugs to be worked out and some strange lags here and there, but it doesn't take away from the overall experience too much. When the standalone guitars start being sold in a few months life will be really good. The fact that the xbox 360 guitars work straight up with the PC is a huge plus (wireless will require an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows). The system requirements are a bit ridiculous, but if you have a decent rig you'll have little problems. I run a custom built system with a Core 2 Duo 2.66, 2GB Ram, 8800GT 512 SOC running on XP and it doesn't miss a beat. I am sure a less capable rig should be able to run this just fine. I am disappointed that there is no downloadable content yet, hopefully that will change.

buyers check your systems first
Posted .so i thought this would be great since it came on a computer. all my friends have it and i don't have a ps2 or anything so i was stoked it was coming out on the computer. so i get it finally and load it up on my dell laptop-which is only one year old and has all the best stuff i could get on it when i bought it. all my requirements were good except the video card which i had no idea that mine sucked. which is funny because one of the games endorsers so happens to be dell. so be sure to check your video card capabilities. i honestly thought mine would work fine but no dice. i even got the 3d analyzer to emulate a better video card and it didn't work. so now i'm bummed and i have 80 dollars to best buy, (since they don't do cash refunds on opened items). so don't think that just because you have a new computer that your stuff is good enough to handle this game.

Favorite PC Game
Posted .I got it for the PC 'cuz I don't do consoles. If you already have a console, or expect to buy other GH games, get the console version. GH3 is the only one available on PC, and you might wind up with 2 different non-interchangeable guitars. Also, you won't have to worry about the sys requirements the PC version has. I had to upgrade from a 6600GT (LAG) to a 8800GT/512 (perfect). The guitar is the same as is used on the X-box, a plus if you use that console already. But mine has broken twice in the first 4 months (both times after the warranty expired). The strum bar broke twice, had to disassemble and solder on new switch twice. Stock up on spare strum switches (online) if you plan to play a lot. Or get a second guitar as backup during downtime. If you get a second guitar, get the complete game w/guitar, it's same price as just the guitar. Plus I'm not sure if the guitar alone has the proper USB adapter cable that comes with the complete game. (The guitar alone is sold as a "Xbox guitar")

Best Game Ever
Posted .I was able to install and play the game with a less than desired processor. Mine is an AMD Athlon 64 3400+. System minimum wants you to have 3500+. I do experiance random lag spikes about every 15-20 minutes. I don't know why. Either the game is spinning up the disk in the DVD to check it for something, or I have a windows process of some sort that steals processor time ever once in a while. I'm still working out this small issure, and I'm confident I'll have it worked out soon. Despite the occasional lag spikes, this game has been very enjoyable. If youve never played guitar hero before, you will experiance a bit of hand cramping and soreness, for a few days, untill you become acclimated with the control. Take frequent breaks, keep on practise, and your skills will naturaly impvove at a rapid pace.

brought gaming to my mac
Posted .I purchased this in a best buy store and it was for mac & PC (aspyr media is the mac gaming producer) and was excited to install it on my mac pro. It ran wonderfully and looks amazing on my 24" monitor at full res. gameplay is of course the same as the console versions so it is a ton of fun. I also use the controller on my brother's xbox 360 and battle him which was an added bonus in buying it. I was amazed to read the system requirements though. it would not run even completely turned down on a macbook i tried, it did not meet requirements but i thought there is no way it would require what the box advertised (it does). As always guitar hero is a lot of fun and runs very nicely if you meet the requirements.

Great Game
Posted .Iv'e played all of the guitar hero installments and three is the best, however the pc version is lagy and its better to use the keyboard than the guitar because the guitar on the pc is really hard to calibrate but once you get the keyboard controlls down its so much fun.I like the guitar that comes with the pc version better than the one that comes with the xbox 360,it's smaller so it makes it easier to fet to that orange button faster so when im not on the go i prefer the x-plorer,but when im on the go its the keyboard for me.

Better on PC than on Wii
Posted .I own two Wii versions of this game so my son and I can play on the Wii. I fell in love with this game after the first note played. I decided to get the PC version because the TV is sometimes occupied and I still want to play. Plus my PC has a nice LCD Display running at 1680x1050 (which the game supports). I did not experience the constant lags others did. I downloaded the 1.1 patch from Aspyr before playing it however and this is probably why I have had not problems. The songs load faster on the PC than on the Wii and the graphics look better. I am running this on an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz w/ 2 GB RAM and an ATI x1950 Pro Card with 256 MB RAM and RAID 0 HD configuration. I have all the options set up as high as they can go. My only beef is that the wired controller is an XBox controller (it even has the XBox logo on it) while all the other GH3 versions have the newer wireless Les Paul Guitars. But the feel of the guitar is that same as that of the Wii version, just doesn't look as great. If you have a good PC system and meet the requirements I would choose the PC/Mac version over the Wii version.
