Welcome in a lot of ways but limping
||Posted .This new iteration is a welcome change for these types of plastic instrument games . Unlike Rock Band who seems to have taken the easy way out to release its latest iteration the developers of DJ Hero seemed to step up their game providing both an instrument that would challenge even veteran plastiq rockers as well as the new folk alike . The Guitar hero T.V idea is a great one on a lot of levels . But a miss in some key areas . I have never played so many guitar hero songs (or rock band for that matter) . Providing an MTV like experience where we jump in jump out of a persistent ever evolving (they promise) playlist presented in a way that appeals directly to my 80s youth . All of this is great when its firing on all cylinders ... When it works. Playing during opening week I found that , for me , the ability to connect to this server was spotty at best . Sometimes going days with a vague Dolomite error that I had to go out of my way as a user to research online what the possible meaning was . Not very user friendly ... not at all. But when it is working it is truly a blast and a great new direction for the series . YES you can no longer own a track to play when you want to BUT you earn tokens as you play and they stack up quickly . These tokens can be redeemed to play any specific song in their play library which consists of over 200 songs at the moment and they promise will expand quickly . This makes it a harder task to play these jams on repeat and truly master them at the hardest difficulty but the trade off is that you don't have to shell out 2.00 per song just to "own" it . There are some issues with the latest plastiq band in a box iterations from both developers but I feel as though Guitar hero has taken the most risks and has in turn reaped the greatest rewards as far as a fun experience

Differences mainly work out
||Posted .Guitar Hero Live attracted me due to how different it is from past rhythm games. Eschewing the traditional five-button guitar layout, Live's guitar features 6 buttons in a 3-button layout (think 3 buttons on top of 3 others). I've seen many reviews mention that this mimics a guitar more accurately and I agree with that. There are two game modes once the game is started: Live and TV. Live is the standard career mode with a twist-- Instead of creating a band, all concerts are played with a pre-recorded video of a band that changes based on how you play. If you are failing, the crowd boos and your band members get furious. Play well and everyone loves you! I really enjoyed how silly this campaign is. TV allows you to access an assortment of channels that play without your input. These act almost like radio stations in which you play whatever is on. All songs are played on top of the official music video, which adds an MTV feel. I love it!

A different, yet still fun, experience
||Posted .I am a long time Guitar Hero and Rock Band fan. I have played them since the very beginning and have mastered expert modes on all instruments, especially guitar. That being said, I was very unsure of what to think of Guitar Hero Live. Before release, I was unhappy with the soundtrack (I'm a classic rock and metal guy, too much modern music on this one for my taste) and the removal of pinky finger buttons. Upon playing it though, I was surprised by how much I enjoy it. The addition of a second row of buttons, replicating 2 strings on a guitar, have given me something new and complex to master. The POV, real band/crowd view of the game is gimmicky, sure, but hilarious to watch when band mates give you the stink eye for messing up. Best of all, GHTV provides an endless string of songs to play along with their music videos (welcome back, MTV, it's been too long!) Overall, I am happy with the game. Despite the poor tracklist (excluding songs on GHTV), I would recommend that any veteran GH/RB player give this a shot if they're looking for a new challenge. For newcomers or casual players, I would recommend you try a demo before buying, as you may find the new guitar too complicated and/or the setlist lacking. 4/5 stars.

Greatest Guitar Hero Yet
||Posted .This guitar hero is one the whole family can enjoy. The set lists are very dynamic and include music from all types of genres. The live concert venue setting makes the game much more immersive (plus making it feel more fun!), adding a refreshing twist to the concert backdrop. The online mode is also well made, with the music video of the song being played as the backdrop. There are a ton of unlockabkes, skins, and a number of different difficulties to adapt to various levels of play. All in all, a very entertaining guitar hero and the new guitar scheme with six pseudo chords redefines the whole approach to the game. It also is easier on the hands by being compact in one zone versus the five color structure. The only reason I give this a 4/5 stars is due to the actual length of the guitar. It feels very stunted, and can, like previous guitar hero, induce odd cramps and pains in the arms/shoulders. Barring the length of the fretboard, this is certainly one guitar hero worth adding to any music gamer's collection or famigame library game repertoire. Just be wary of how long you spend playing it to avoid aches! (It's that much fun!)

new experience
||Posted .I played almost all of the guitar he or and Rockband games until they became second nature to me. With this new iteration of the game for the current generation console, I was relieved I to see that something new went into it. First thing you will notice is the controller. Instead of a linear fret, you get 6 fret keys that are laid out as pairs. There are no more color keys, just black and white symbols. this adds for new strategies. I must admit that I do miss the old layout. Second, the graphics. There are no more cartoons in the games. they have been replaced by "live" audience that I thought was cool. The crowd reacts to how good you are. the music selection is okay, about 50-ish songs on the disc but there is a TV online mode that unlocks hundreds more. The songs are played at random if you want them for free, or else you will have to spend real money for them. Good news is that you do not need PSN Plus to access this mode. I enjoyed the game and am glad they came out with a new version.

Great game but has some flaws
||Posted .As a musician I came to really enjoy the music oriented games such as the Guitar Hero series and have played a vast majority of them. In my opinion the game itself has continued to develop and certainly has met my expectations...however, the guitar controller itself has changed in an odd way to me. For starters there's now only 3 buttons wide as opposed to the previous 5, in addition to those 3 wide they separated them into top and bottom. So now you have 6 tiny buttons in a 3 button wide space, so that takes some getting used to especially if you played a lot of the older Guitar Hero games. You almost have to relearn the game. In addition, while playing there does seem to be the ever so slight lag between the time you press the button to the game registering the button combo, so if you are on a good streak and happen to get that slight time off it will likely break your streak.

The Guitar Hero I needed
||Posted .Guitar Hero Live is the newest guitar hero in the series and it happens to be one of the best. Wheather that is due to the new layout of buttons on the controller or the new Live crowd setting. The game has a fantastic set list of songs, even though the disc only has 42 songs on it there are over 150 songs on Guitar Hero TV which is free and they are always adding more songs. The only thing that I have a problem with is that GHTV is not the best. I would love to have been taught more of the features it has rather than just learning them myself. Also I have encourtered a couple of times where it says I missed a song when playing on a channel when I clearly did and played the entire song. Was not awarded coins or status points which was annoying. Otherwise it is a fantastic price, the UI is very clean and beautiful. I am interested to see what Activision has next for this franchise.

Challenging, but fun!
||Posted .I loved playing Guitar Hero when it was popular years ago, and I noticed a demo for a new Guitar Hero game when I was at a Best Buy store, so I thought I'd give it a try. That's when I noticed the new 6 button layout. It was so hard to get through that first song, but I was hooked! I'm so glad Guitar Hero changed it up. You still get the same feel and fun of playing a guitar video game, but it feels like an upgraded, next level above the old game's expert level. Definitely a nice progression from previous games. The only thing I don't like is all the video footage leading up each song. It's weird and awkward, and it takes sooo long to start a song because of it. I kind of feel like it was a waste of time and money to put it in, and I wish I could just skip it.
