Gunfighter [DVD] [1997]

As is often the case from Sterling Entertainment, the picture quality of Gunfighter is quite good, and in an unexpected move, is in a full 2.35:1 aspect ratio. While the film doesn't have the sort of sweep that is traditionally associated with Westerns, it's nice to see that they didn't reduce this film to a lousy pan-and-scan transfer. The only thing that would have improved the overall image is if they had used an anamorphic transfer. The sound, on the other hand, could've been so much more. The DVD has a good, though far from exceptional 2.0 stereo soundtrack that leaves one wondering what it could have been like with some surround effects. There aren't any languages other than English on the disc and it doesn't include any subtitles, which may turn off some viewers. Extras are slim -- brief biographies, complete filmographies, and a trailer.
