    Synopsis

    Hannibal
Based on the controversial sequel novel of the same name, Hannibal is the much-anticipated follow-up to the Oscar-winning The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Anthony Hopkins returns as Dr. Hannibal Lecter, one of the world's most cunning and feared serial killers, who resurfaces after a decade in hiding to toy with FBI agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore). As Starling's career flounders thanks to a drug bust gone wrong, Lecter attempts to elude a greedy Italian police detective (Giancarlo Giannini) who's willing to alert the authorities to his presence in Florence for a price. In the meantime, a maimed but wealthy former victim of Lecter's named Mason Verger (Gary Oldman) plots to get his revenge on the doctor in a most unusual and grisly fashion. The novel by Thomas Harris was adapted for director Ridley Scott by David Mamet and Steven Zaillian. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Silence of the lambs was one of those rare films that was perfect all the way around. perfect adaption from the Thomas Harris novel, perfect direction, perfect action (especially Hopkins and Foster) and is still regarded as one of the best psychological horror films ever made. when Harris followed up his best seller with a sequel entitled Hannibal, it was a much more darker and graphic book with a downbeat unbelievable ending. having read the book which was awesome, the movie, while not bad, left out more of the more gut wrenching (pun intended) scenes and a subplot which i felt was important. also left out was out to not anger the movie audience. Jodie Foster declined to come back having been told the books ending was going to be in the movie citing it was not something Starling would ever do. while hopkins is still great as lector, Julianne Moore is not Clairece Starling. Ridley Scott did do the best he could but it just wasnt quite good enough. had the studio had more balls and went full on book, it would of been a much more powerful and disturbing film. 4 stars since its descent but not the original.

I probably shouldn't have gotten this movie overall because it will never top Silence of the Lambs. Hopkins though is still perfect as well as Gary Oldham. But I forgot how flat the overall story is in the long term of matters. Ridley Scott is hit or miss a lot of the times but with Jodie Foster not even reprising the role it kind of takes the punch out of the film. Get at your own risk really.

Definitely wanted to see the sequel; not as good as Silence of the Lambs. As much as I am a fan of both actresses, it was difficult to accept Julianne Moore as Clarise after Jodie Foster's performance. Definitely worth the watch for a price of a rental.

A pretty solid sequel. Falls into the classic "not as good as the book" catigory, but still very good. Wish they ported over all the special from the original DVD though.

As a sequel to Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal does not quite hold up. However, if you can take it for its own merits, it's an intriguing film that, while not amazing, is more than worth your time.

I love all of the Silence of The Lambs movies and this one is excellent. A little different than the rest, but still very enjoyable and entertaining. Anthony Hopkins is always a joy to watch.

My review is about the Blu-ray, which has a great transfer, but lacks in any real supplements. Love the film, just wish there would have been more extras.
