I know this came out quite a while ago but if you're a fan of the older records I think you'll be pleased with this one. A nice blend of their classic sound with a progression into some new territory.

I have been shopping at Best Buy for my music for over 25 years, so when Metallica's new CD came out, this was my first stop. Great new music from Metallica with that classic sound only they can deliver. Great purchase at a great price!

Metallica has always been one of the most controversial bands of discussion. They have die hard fans for any area in their career. You have fans of their 80's career that will stand by only the first 4 albums, then you have fans of the 90's that generally like all their catalog. There's even the rare fan that likes only their 90's stuff. With Hardwired, you get an album that should satisfy anyone that likes any point in their career. There's fast tunes and there's mid-tempo tunes. Now, I wont go into the whole audiophile deal here as everyone has their ticks on that. I've read reviews where people love the mixing and mastering on this album and others where they hated it. In my opinion (and I am a sound engineer) this album is leveled out, mixed and mastered really well. No one aside from other sound guys should be able to nit pick things they don't like. It's a far improvement from Death Magnetic in terms of the engineering that went behind it. Gone is the distortion and clipping that riddled DM (mostly in The Day That Never Comes). With Hardwired you get crisp clarity. Now, the music on the album is some of the best they've done in a long time. As Lars has stated, the songs really are more straight forward and to the point. Don't confuse that with 3:30 minute songs opposed to 7+ minute songs. Some of them are still a little long but they don't seem to drone on longer than they should be. I do personally like the longer songs though. My only real problem with the album is there are more mid-tempo bluesy songs than fast thrashy ones. If they just had one more fast on on the second disc I think this album could have been a five star easy. But alas, we have been deprived of that. But luckily for Metallica, it doesn't drag down the album so much. If you liked DM apart from the sound quality, then this album will be a treat. It sounds like a continuation of DM but done just a little bit better.
