The overall sound is pretty darn good. it was actually better than I thought after reading all the reviews here on BestBuy. I own the Bose SoundLink mini II which is good but has many flaws. If you like your music played 50% volume or lower the soundlink mini II might be the best overall sounding small bluetooth speaker out there, hands down! But if you like your music played louder over 50% volume, the sound quality take a dive real quick. its still clear & bright but the bass distorts and instruments no longer sound correct. I also have the Klipsch GiG which sounds awesome, but also has its limitations. at 50% volume and lower, its the only speaker that can hang toe to toe with the bose soundlink mini II and maintain sound quality throughout all instruments and has good punch! but when you go higher in volume the bass distorts more so than the bose. Now I have this Harmon Kardon Onyx mini speaker and i am pretty pleased. the highs aren't as bright as the soundlink mini II or the GiG, but the drivers are pretty clean. the mids are better than the soundlink mini II but not better than the GiG. I opened up my onyx mini and to my surprise, in the front there are 2 drivers and 1 passive bass radiator just like its big brother the Onyx Studio 3 (the onyx studio 3 has 2 tweeters in front that the onyx mini doesn't have). in the back there is also a passive bass radiator that moves with heavy beats & bass tones. I find it odd nobody mentioned the passive bass radiator in the front, its not even on the Harmon Kardon website or any reviews out there. the bass on this onyx mini is pretty good, not as tight as the GiG but more natural than the soundlink mini II. you won't get that over boosted bass like the bose on lower volumes but it's full sounding and it sounds good. where this speaker shines is at volumes over 50% and higher. on bose the bass disappears and there's too much processing that alters the music completely. and through all this, the bass gets weak & distorts. the onyx mini keeps up the strong full sound and maintains the bass punch. the highs & mids are clean but not overly bright like bose. put any of these 3 speakers in a corner of a room and they all sound great. but at louder volumes the bose & klipsch doesn't maintain the full overall sound like the onyx mini does. the sound is more true at higher volumes with good bass punch. i'm real happy with this purchase!

This little speaker will surprise you! Lots of benefits. It has big, deep sound and clarity, and excellent speakerphone capability with noise & echo canceling technology. It's also very portable around the home with about 10 hours of battery life. Harmon Kardon literally has the advantage on the market for portability, sound, and speakerphone quality on its blue tooth speakers (3 total so far). I tested 3 different brands, including Sony, JBL, and Cambridge, which paled in comparison on the speakerphone quality. That was an instant deal breaker for me. I needed a good bedside speaker that duels as a quality speakerphone - the Onyx Mini surprised the heck out of me. I temporarily owned the Onyx 3 (the bigger brother) and returned it due to how large it was on my bedside table, its lack of portability, and limited battery life (although the quality was incredible). The pros out-weigh the cons for this speaker. Comparing the Onyx 3, the Mini stands up impressively well with only 2 small limitations (to be expected on this type of comparison): for those who like very high volume and crisper highs (treble), go with Onyx 3. The Onyx Mini will lose clarity and quality when volume is too high, but don't get me wrong - this little guy gets comfortably loud and still sounds amazing, especially for its size. It suits my needs well.

I happened to be driving past Best Buy and figured I would stop in to see if they had a set of speakers that would fit my needs and budget. Boy was I lucky to find these on sale. These little guys pack a punch and don't disappoint. They're Harmon Kardon, so you know they're good. The audio is loud, clear and the speakers give you the option to use the aux input or connect via Bluetooth. You can actually pair them to use for stereo sound which is awesome. The only draw back is when you use the Bluetooth function if connected to a home theater as there is a delay. The audio doesn't match the video. However, they work great if you're just listening to music. If you want to use them for your home theater (I have them as a left and right channel via an aux splitter), use the aux inputs and you won't have any issues. Best Buy was running a sale when I purchased them. They were originally $200 each, but were on sale for $50 each. Plus, when I got to checkout, they gave me an additional 30% off for buying 2. What?!? So, I just purchased 2 quality speakers for $70 when they normally retail for $400 a pair! Even if Best Buy doesn't offer the add'l 30% off for buying a pair, they're an absolute steal at $50 each. Buy a pair before they're gone!

Harman/kardon - Onyx mini exceeded all my expectations. It is smaller than I imagined, but this bluetooth speaker puts out big music sound. In keeping with Harman Kardon sound this bluetooth speaker is very clean and crisp in the sound it emits and can get quite loud in relation to its size. The bass is tight and not boomy with the nice separation of the lows where bass guitar notes are clear as well as the bass drum in music. The bass is definitely there and can be felt, but not overpowering and boomy like my JBL Charge 2+( which I like quite a bit as well). I would say the frequency response is more on the flat side and not boosted on the lows or highs, just a clean crisp all around great small speaker. Oh, and it pairs perfectly with an Amazon Echo Dot. If you plug the speaker in (it uses a standard micro-USB connector, and comes with the appropriate USB cord and wall unit charger), it will remain on and ready to talk to you Echo--no time-outs. At higher volumes, you can easily fill a room with sound. And, as I mentioned, you can push the speaker up to full volume and it's still pleasant to listen to, which is the exception, not the rule, with portable bluetooth speakers.

I am an audio fanatic. I did a lot of research on which Mini wireless speaker to buy. I listened to all the samples at the store and I thought this speaker sounded very similar to the Bose Soundlink ($130). I also thought the Sony XB20 sounded similar but the Sony had more bass. The Onyx is a well balanced sound, great mid's and high's and low's are decent, good for its size though. I bought the Onyx Mini when it was only $50 on a deal of the day and i couldn't be happier. My regret is i didn't buy a second pair so i could pair the speakers. The charge holds for a long time and the sound quality sounds great. To improve the sound quality of the speaker don't forget to adjust your audio device Equalizer, it will make a world of difference. I would totally purchase this product under $100. I feel like this speaker is designed more for indoor or well protected outdoor use. The one complaint that i have, which very minimal is carrying the speaker because of the rear driver. I feel like you have to grip it weird without pushing on the driver. Other then that it is great. would recommend.

I went through the JBL Flip 2, Sony SRSXB3, Bose Soundtouch, and finally tried this Onyx at the end and it won out. The sound quality is in the order I went through the various tests. Both the JBL and Sony's still sounded very tin-like, with the JBL's having the weakest bass. For me the worst thing is when the speakers make the sound emit like it's stuck in the speaker box, versus being a part of the ambience. The Bose was okay, but the sound quality was not worth the price tag is the issue. Yes it has awesome other features like the channels and remote control, but that just isn't worth an extra $100. One of the workers suggested Onyx, which I'd never used before and though obviously they aren't as great as a larger high quality speaker system, they are very balanced. The Bose did have a stronger bass sound, but in turn, it also was muffled and sounded "wongy" versus the Onyx whose bass was a bit weaker, but the overall sound was crisper without having a high treble or midi. It also did what I was hoping, which was having the music not sound like it was coming from a tiny box. I tested pop, hip hop, ballads, and classical. Great job, Onyx.

I'm so glad I read through the reviews for this unit. I've had several different bluetooth speakers in the past but this definitely takes the cake. For what I was looking for it delivers hands down. Sound is clear even at full volume. No distortion which is new to me. Fills a room with sound well. And to my surprise has good bass. I never know what to expect with these units. Even when you try them in store it's never the same until you get it to where you will actually use it. I love the design. I feel it's crafted well and I love the shape. Buttons are clean looking. Out of the box it was ready to use. Connectivity to my tablet was fast and easy. For what I paid and what I received I feel like I stole this unit. When I told the associate my price range he pointed me to mini. At normal price $199.99 I wasn't too thrilled but he said it was on sale for under $100. For the $37.99 this cost me I don't have a single complaint. Would highly recommend buying. And at the price I will most likely buy another before it goes back to normal.

This HK Onyx mini exceeded all my expectations. It is perfect size- not too small or big like Onyx Studio 2/3, but this bluetooth speaker puts out big music sound. In keeping with Harman Kardon sound this bluetooth speaker is very clean and crisp in the sound it emits and can get quite loud in relation to its size. The bass is tight and not boomy with the nice separation of the lows where bass guitar notes are clear as well as the bass drum in music. I would say the frequency response is more on the flat side and not boosted on the lows or highs, just a clean crisp all around great small speaker. The shape kind of makes it a little hard for traveling purposes, but my intentions were for an all around house and yard speaker and for that this thing more than fits the bill. It's small enough to grab and go, I have no problems palming this speaker, but it may not pack so well with the round shape. All in all a great speaker at a great price(50$ on Sale unbeatable).
