      The "Digital Copy" That Isn't

      Posted

I thought movie studios had things figured out by now. When they advertise "Digital Copy" on the box, I want an iTunes copy that I can load on my iPhone/iPad for road trips and to watch on my Apple TV. It's nice, simple and in the format I want. I can watch it on the go, without an internet connection, I can watch it through my TV with Apple TV's neat menu system, etc. "Ha!", says Warner Brothers. Let's not give you a file compatible with all your devices, but let's give you a license to watch your "copy" online. It won't work with any device capable of streaming to TV, you'll have to sign up in two different places to access your content, your license will expire in three years, and the service will be non-functional out of the gate, so it doesn't even work! Oh, and if you happen to have the WiFi only iPad and want to watch your "copy" in the car, then you're completely out of luck. Even if you have something like an iPhone with 3G service, you'll quickly reach your bandwidth cap trying to stream the movie (thanks for the overages, Warner Brothers)!!! Seriously, why does Warner Brothers do this to their customers? Just give me an iTunes copy already!

Great Movie - Fail for the Digital Copy

I am reviewing the product not the movie. The movie was fantastic and a satisfying end to an epic adventure. However, the 1 star is not for the movie it is for the horrible claim of a digital copy. A digital copy to me is a movie that is downloaded through an aplication such as iTunes. The digital copy can then be transferred to a mobile device like an iPad, iPhone, Android phone, etc. The digital copy can then be watched WHENEVER you want. This is digital copy can only be downloaded to a PC or laptop using the Flixster application and watch using that application only. The problem I have is that even though everything is installed the movie doesn't play and closes with an error "Playback failed for an unknown reason". As for playing it on an iPad, which I do especially when travelling on a plane, you need to download the Flixster app and then stream the movie. WHAT??! If I am on a plane I am not able to stream the movie so that makes this WORTHLESS! As far as I see it - Warner Bros. owes me the cost of downloading this movie from iTunes and I have told them so. Please go to this site and complain: http://www.warnerbros.com/main/help/customer_service.html Save yourself $5 and just get the Blu-Ray/DVD combo and skip on the digital copy that isn't.

      Extremely misleading...read on before buying

First off, the movie is amazing. That's why I purchased this pack of 3 formats. The problem? Part one was released with a digital copy that didn't come with the requirement of downloading new programs, signing up for 2 new memberships, and all to download a copy I can't put onto the majority of my devices. I purchased the Part 1 combo pack and couldn't be more satisfied with the money spent. I logged into iTunes, entered the redemption code, and boom. I had the movie in my iTunes library. This "digital copy" comes with more strings than it does benefits. If you own an Apple product, please know ahead of time you CANNOT sync the digital copy to your device. Read up on compatibility of "ultraviolet digital copy" before you buy this or you'll be stuck ripping the movie from the DVD. If you wish to download the digital copy in this package, you must first sign up for 2 new memberships, download 2 programs, and then can only watch it in Flixster or on the Flixster app. It's misleading to release the first DVD with a normal format digital copy and then to release part 2 to not be synced.

      Digital Copy

The Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD are all fine. the digital copy is a rip-off. Anyone buying this product is going to be gravely disappointed. To view the digital copy one must first create a Flixster and a UltraViolet account. This will allow you to view the content while connected to the Interet. If you want to watch it off line, well that requires another application to be installed. If you want to watch it in iTunes, well that is going to cost you another $14.99 to do that. If you are inclined to go though this to get the "digital copy" I would strongly recommend not linking your Facebook account to your Flixster account. If you do so, Flixster will recommend to all your freinds to get their own Flixster account. Yes this is how worms operate, only the payload here is more annoyance. I have no idea why Warner Bros. did this to their customers. As for me, if I see Flixster... and I am now looking for it... on the box, it is going back on the shelf.

Awesome movie; best of the year by far.

This is one of the best movies I've seen. The story is so well developed and captured by the film, the cinematography is stimulating, and the acting is the best its been by the main three young actors than all the past HP movies. The 3D version is so amazing! It only lacks the scale of IMAX but on a large TV you feel like you are back in the theater. The only downside is the digital copy with Ultraviolet. I'm sure its a good service, but no one can beat iTunes. More practically, what if there is no Internet for streaming the digital movie from UV via the web on my iTouch? I guess I can't watch my movie. What happens when UV goes bankrupt and we have no UV platform to play our UV digital movie anymore? Guess we are SOL. Otherwise, this is a fabulous film and its unfortunate the digital copy issue has resulted in folks giving the movie an overall low rating...not deserved at all. Spend the money, get the best movie ever, especially if you have 3D capability. So worth it!

      Movie and Product Great!

Even though I was not happy with the fact that I would be forced to use Flixster to download and watch my digital copy through streaming only, the fact remains that the rest of the product was amazing! Best Buy, or any other retailer who also had the same problem with digital copies, are not at fault here. They had no control of how the digital copy would be obtained. That is a Warner Bros. issue. On that note, I emailed WB with my concerns, and they emailed me back in less than an hour with an iTunes code to download the iTunes version, but still asked me to try the Flixster version. In this way, if I am not satisfied, I walked away with a digital copy either way. So, please think before you post negativity towards Best Buy itself. Instead, just bash the distributors on this one.

I have to agree with other posters and add to what they have said. This is a wonderful movie and having it on Blu-ray and in 3D is great. Since I have almost all of the other HP movies on my iPod I wanted this one as well which is why we made sure we got one with a digital copy. As everyone here has said, this is not your typical digital copy. You can only watch it on a mobile device that is actively connected to the internet through a Flixster account. After reading reviews about it on Amazon, we followed the advice given there and contacted Flixster. They gave us a special code to use to be able to download the movie into iTunes. You just had to either have your code from the case or a screenshot from your Flixster account. I'm happy that we were able to work this out but it's wrong that we should have to do this. We have an "Ultraviolet Digital Copy" of another movie and I question if they'd be willing to do this for all of the movies. At some point, I'd doubt it but their process doesn't work and isn't a true digital copy.

I bought this for my Nephew as a Christmas gift to replace a copy of the same movie that was stolen from my Nephew's apartment. I had originally bought him the afformentioned copy also at Best Buy when it first was released. I wasn't sure if they still had this title in stock online, but I was surprised that the movie was in stock on bestbuy.com. I tried a couple of physical Best Buy locations in my area to see if they had it in the store, but they were out of them. So going online was the only other option, and it couldn't have worked out any better. My Nephew was very happy that he was able to have another copy to replace the other one, as he's a huge fan of the "Harry Potter" movies and owns all of the other movies in this series. The last parts of the series to the best of my knowledge, are the only ones to be offered in a 3d/Blu-Ray version. I originally got the 3d versions for him since he received a 3d HDTV & 3d Blu-Ray player for his birthday in 2011. To Best Buy, keep up the good work and Thanks.
