Good pics, cumbersome design
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought it, still not in love with it. It's carrying issue. I can't sling into a pocket and be ready to go very quickly. It's kind of heavy and not friendly to fumble fingered clods with sausage fingers. First day I went to aim and shoot and the camera separated from the phone. I grumbled. I nearly returned it. I adjusted my grippage (much like the delicate balance when dunking cookies into milk) and shot some nicer than the crummy built in camera. So for the sake of the future of Moto mods, make a car stereo head unit I can slap my phone into. That would be way cool and super useful. I will not buy any of the other mods. I don't like that much luggage frankly. Folks, if you need a camera, buy one. You will have better battery life lugging two devices with their own batteries.

Amazing quality added to a phone camera
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is incredible. You won't realize the true difference between optical and digital zoom until you have this on your Moto z phone. I used it to get crystal clear pics and videos at a soccer game, and I was near the top of the stadium. When I showed people my pics and videos they thought I was sitting in the front row at the bottom of the stadium, the zoom and quality are exceptional.

Good but not great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Take good pics but do not put high expectation on it, it’s still a very small cmos sensor so it won’t create great photos like Sony , canon or Panasonic cameras’ 1” cmos quality. It’s faster than the phone’s Own camera but still behind Samsung dual pixel auto focus .

3 weeks in Alaska
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The jury is still out. I bought the Hasslebad for my Moto Z Play just before leaving on a 3 week trip to Alaska. The camera took better pictures than my cell phone alone, mostly because of the better zoom. I didn't find the interface with the camera that user friendly. Maybe it was may lack of experience, but I felt it was slower to respond than my previous point & shoot. However it was easier to do close ups than with that camera. (See the bee in 2nd photo.) Also, I kept getting things I didn't want popping up and shutting the camera off because touching the screen activates things you can't seen while you are focusing. It is hard to hold and manipulate the camera/phone while shooting without touching the screen. I was initially disappointed in the quality of the photos, but the information recorded must be good because they were easily improved by adjusting light and "pop" in a simple photo software program. I will use the camera again, but I will probably buy a point and shoot camera for the next trip. Would I recommend the camera? Maybe. It is a fun thing if sometimes frustrating.

Pretty decent Moto Mod
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been looking at purchasing this product for some time; a trip to the Olympics and a hundred-dollar-off sale caused me to pull the trigger. It does its job pretty well; the zoom works admirably (though it is in quantized intervals, so you can't zoom to both 2.0x and 2.1x. Maybe 2.0 and 3.1x). Image quality is about as good as can be expected with a 10 MP image sensor; the ability to take RAW images was pretty neat. By only real issue (especially at the MSRP price point) is that it doesn't have its own dedicated battery. It went through about 80% of my Moto Z Force Droid battery after maybe 200 shots. If you plan on using it for an entire day, bring a charger or backup battery.

Why didn't I buy you sooner?!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Moto Mod recently for my Moto Z Play because it was on sale for half off ($100 vs $200 MSRP). I wish I had this with me when I last went on vacation. It would have taken much better pictures that my phone did, even when I was taking pics of landscapes or other objects. While the Z Play does take good pictures, it's still not to the same level of quality as what the Hasselblad can. Once it was connected, I had to download a Moto Mods update, as it kept crashing without the update. The magnet to keep the camera attached is actually pretty strong, but you can wiggle it slightly. Besides that the camera does have the 10x zoom, and image stabilization/lock on (press the button partly down). The zoom feature is a bit slow to respond and sometimes can be tough to make small adjustments. The xenon flash is quite bright and I find the pics it takes are more truer color than the phone does alone. It's nice that the Hasselblad comes with its own carrying case to protect it while it's not attached. Overall, I think this is quite a great attachment for the price I got it, and would still have been worth it at the normal price for the >3000 pics I took on vacation. It's very straightforward to use if you've used a normal camera previously. I did not notice any real detriment to my phone's battery either.
