One of the coolest mods in the Moto Mod line up is the Hasselblad True Zoom Moto Mod. The area surrounding the camera lens is made of metal; with the grip being a rubber-like material. It gives you a solid grip when capturing or recording; and it doesn’t leave behind any fingerprints. Now to camera performance. It’s great in bright light, perfect for vacations or just casual outdoor shooting. It provides crisp and sharp photos that look really great. I noticed photos out of the Hasselblad had better colors than the Moto Z Play itself. And of course, the 10x optical zoom is really fun to play with. The zoom is extremely smooth and seamless, with no lags or stutters through the Moto Mod connection. It has OIS for stills, which works pretty well; especially when zooming. I did notice that it takes a few seconds to focus if you’re using the telephoto optical zoom. It also has a professional mode; which allows you to adjust focus, white balance, ISO, and zoom. In low light, the Xenon flash does a very good job lighting up the room; significantly better than the onboard LED flash on the Moto Z Play itself. However, the small aperture makes it a worse low light camera than the Moto Z Play itself. I’ll have some camera samples below. With video, the stabilization is noticeably better than the onboard camera; but it doesn’t have 4K recording. Videos come out good; with decent colors; and don’t look too over saturated. Keep in mind that you can’t use the Xenon flash when recording video (it’s way to bright, probably will blind someone). I’ll have two video samples below; one is standing still, the other one is walking. Ok, so I ended up buying this because I accidentally got some chemical on my phone camera lens that permanently frosted it, which isn't bad an effect, but you don't want it all the time, lol. So I needed a way to use my phone to get clear pictures, and luckily it takes Motomods. The real zoom is handy and responsive, I feel the colors are a bit truer than the camera on the phone, easy to operate and some of the added functionality from the Hassleblad app is nice. The pictures it takes are smaller in size, I beleive 10MB vs 18 from the phone, for me this really isn't an issue and for some reason the Hasselblad photos seem crisper. Two biggest gripes, Since I needed a functional camera phone at a moments notice, I'm needing to keep the mod on at all times. This lead to quite a bit of work trying to find a case that would allow me to hang it on my belt like we used to do with the older, larger cell phones. Ended up finding what I needed at an Army/Navy surplus store. So really this is a gripe about the lack of accessories to go with an accessory. But, as far as the functionality goes, there are several apps that do not recognize the Hasselblad mod. Like FaceBook. I can no longer take a picture from the FaceBook app. You have to exit out of FaceBook, take the picture, and then go back to FB and post. Minor annoyance, true, but I was not expecting such things to be an issue and am a bit surprised that it is. So all in all if you like photography and would like a true 40x zoom, this is a great mod, but if you need to keep the mod "permanently" on your phone, you will find that traveling solutions and some apps will be slightly more troublesome.

I bought it, still not in love with it. It's carrying issue. I can't sling into a pocket and be ready to go very quickly. It's kind of heavy and not friendly to fumble fingered clods with sausage fingers. First day I went to aim and shoot and the camera separated from the phone. I grumbled. I nearly returned it. I adjusted my grippage (much like the delicate balance when dunking cookies into milk) and shot some nicer than the crummy built in camera. So for the sake of the future of Moto mods, make a car stereo head unit I can slap my phone into. That would be way cool and super useful. I will not buy any of the other mods. I don't like that much luggage frankly. Folks, if you need a camera, buy one. You will have better battery life lugging two devices with their own batteries.

I purchased this Mod from Best Buy via a price match (50% off). So, it was worth $125 but absolutely not worth the regular price of $250-300. For that much buy a nice Sony point-and-shoot and you'll be happier. But, for $125 you get a very nice and feature rich Mod for the Moto Z. I've taken a number of photos and the zoom feature is excellent. The optical image stabilization is less so, however, and is a bit of a disappointment. The device does not have a built in battery, surprisingly, given the size of the Mod and so draws power from the phone - you'll need to have a battery Mod available if you take lots of photos as you'll run down the phone. The image quality is good and you can take RAW images which is nice for photo editing. The sensor is also small; given the cost of the unit (and the name) you'd expect something more than just a nice zoom lens. So, a good purchase at the right price point, but not for full price.

I had been looking at purchasing this product for some time; a trip to the Olympics and a hundred-dollar-off sale caused me to pull the trigger. It does its job pretty well; the zoom works admirably (though it is in quantized intervals, so you can't zoom to both 2.0x and 2.1x. Maybe 2.0 and 3.1x). Image quality is about as good as can be expected with a 10 MP image sensor; the ability to take RAW images was pretty neat. By only real issue (especially at the MSRP price point) is that it doesn't have its own dedicated battery. It went through about 80% of my Moto Z Force Droid battery after maybe 200 shots. If you plan on using it for an entire day, bring a charger or backup battery.

I love the zoom. If you need a nice zoom camera this is a great option because you take the pictures then you can post them or share them right away. It doesn't increase the resolution of the phone but when you zoom, it's a true optical zoom. Once you reach it's max, then it begins digital zoom and that's when the pixel replication and loss of quality begins as with any digital camera. Over all, I'm very pleased with the results and performance. You can turn the flash on or off. The zoom is fast and in case your wondering, it's not self powered, it uses the phone's battery and memory. All of the phone's native functions are conveyed to the camera so if you can do it with the phone's camera, you can do it with the camera mod. I give it a thumbs up.

I was going on a trip so I decided to buy this for my phone. I liked the idea of it but wish it came with a bigger case for both the phone and the camera mod. It's easy to connect though and I was able to take great photo's. I'm not sure if it was the phone or me not reading the instructions but I had a hard time taking a photo with the mod. Overall it is a pretty cool gadget to have if you don't want to carry 3 kinds of cameras with you on a trip. However, I recommend taking a battery pack to charge your phone because the battery will be used alot.

I didn't realize how bad the quality of my smartphone pictures was until i started using this moto mod. the optical zoom versus digital zoom is like night and day. It allows for really good pictures when zooming because you don't get the pixelization that happens with the digital zoom of your phone camera. Overall, it is worth the investment if you get it on sale.
