Have Guitar Will Travel, the name alone lets us know that this living legend is in it for the long haul. Pure an simple, this is straight rock and roll. Perry switches off vocal duties with Hagan, who is a german singer that Perry found online. The title track "We've Got A Long Way To Go" is a mix of old and new rock. It is definitely the single of the record. Then kicks right into "slingshot" giving up a fuzzy-riff of blues and rock. Joe's riffs are the same aerosmith sound we have grown to love. The difference is Joe is free to do what he wants without an constrains. The song "Wooden Ships" is an instrumental piece that shows fine musicianship and does not come across as show off song. A key song on the record is "Heaven and Hell". We all know that Perry is known for being an epic songwriter but this is where is shines. It has haunting guitar licks and deep lyrics that appear all over the album (also on "Oh Lord (21 Grams)" a acoustic pipe organ piece) to help kick the devil out. The album closes with familiar early aerosmith sounding tracks. "Freedom" and "Scare the Cat" is for old and new fans to listen and rock. "Have Guitar Will Travel" is a stellar release from Joe and we hope to hear more from him soon.

This cd is meant to be played loud to fully appreciate it. I listened to Joe Perry talk about about his new cd on joeperry.com (see other links there) and there's more information at the Aerosmith fan club, aeroforceone.com. I love Let the Music do the Talking but it's not on this cd, however he does play it while touring to promote this new cd. (check out the video on You Tube) I like Long Way to Go after listening to it a few times but love Heaven & Hell, No Surprise, and Do You Wonder is also good. Joe put his energy into this while Aerosmith gets ready to tour again. His new singer Hagen does a good job as well. I would like to see what happens down the line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86or0E-cqh4 and I am still waiting on Aerosmith to put out a new cd & tour again. :D

"Have Guitar, Will Travel" is a kick-a** rock and roll album. Joe Perry wails on guitar solidifying his place as one of Rollingstone's Top 50 Guitar Players of All Time. The single off the album featuring singer Hagen is called, "We've Got A Long Way To Go" This track epitomizes the classic-rock sound Perry has notoriously brought to every project he's worked on. With the addition of Hagen, Joe Perry has really honed in on the perfect sound for what is to be indefinitely, a classic rock album.
