    Synopsis

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Although the title makes Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer seem like a cut-rate slasher flick, the movie is actually one of the most disturbing and terrifying examinations of mass murderers ever filmed. Loosely based on the story of confessed murderer Henry Lee Lucas, the film follows Henry (Michael Rooker) as he selects innocent victims -- occasionally with his roommate Otis (Tom Towles) -- and kills them, capturing their deaths on videotape. Many of these murders rank among the most brutal ever portrayed on film. The violence and the clinical, detached portrayal of Henry and his horrifying actions make Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer a disturbing, thought-provoking film, but it certainly isn't one for every taste. Finished in 1986, the movie wasn't released until 1990, when it was greeted with both positive reviews and considerable controversy. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

I watched this movie years ago (still have it in my collection), and it is one of the most disturbing movies I've ever watched. What makes it so scary is that it shows just how a killer like the one portrayed here can randomly select their next victim - no rhyme nor reason, maybe simply because of the color of the dress - and how easy it is for them to carry out their desires. If this movie doesn't make you start looking over your shoulder and double-checking that your doors are locked at night, then I don't know what will. They ARE out there among us, it's up to you to pay attention. Yes, I would recommend this film; however, it's not for the faint-of-heart.

      Impassive

It’s the matter of fact, impassive observational style that lends the film such a hard-hitting, disturbing edge. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is an extreme film that will absolutely not be to many people’s tastes due to the sheer grimness of the subject matter. But for those who like their horror cold, hard and emotionally raw – the film delivers some serious chills.

I never heard of this before and came upon it in an article on rotten tomatoes. I agree with most that this movie is a very realistic and scary film. Michael Rooker and his co-star/accomplice in killing give great performances!

The restoration job on this movie is unbelievable considering this was filmed on 16mm. Even those this movie is so good, it's going to be very hard to watch it again for fun because of how much it unnerved me. Great special feautures too.

This movie took me by complete surprise. I read many reviews and it was voted to be a disturbing film. I checked it out and it is just that. The movie is Raw and it keeps your attention as a little mishap turns to huge results.
