I had never considered purchasing a Hisense TV before and I’ve definitely been missing out. I’ve owned TVs from some of the top brands in this price range, but after years of frustration, I decided to take a chance on the U7 Series Mini-LED QLED. I’m so glad I did. Key Features: There are several key features and specs I always look for in a TV, and the U7 checks every box. 4K? Check. Tons of local dimming zones for high contrast and deep blacks? Check. Color accuracy? Check. Easy-to-use interface? Check. 3,000-nit peak brightness? Check. HDMI 2.1 ports with eARC? Check. And the list goes on. My TV is located in a bright living room with light coming in from all directions. The anti-reflection technology on this set is some of the best I’ve seen - without hurting picture quality. My last TV was like a mirror, but the U7 is in a league of its own. Sure, some reflection is inevitable, but the U7’s screen diffuses harsh light extremely well. Picture Quality: As I mentioned earlier, I have zero complaints about the picture on this TV. The local dimming is superb, delivering blacks that would make an OLED blush. Grey uniformity is also the best I’ve seen in a panel. I’m a bit of a color nerd, I used to be a graphic designer and seeing that this TV is Pantone color certified is the cherry on top. It looks incredible in bright rooms and absolutely shines when the lights go out. HDR performance is immersive and spectacular. If Hisense keeps this up, there’s no doubt in my mind they’re going to take the market by storm. Unboxing: I’m always hesitant to have TVs delivered because I’ve seen what can happen during shipping. This Hisense arrived within a few days, and I had zero issues. The TV was well-protected, and I have to give a massive shoutout to Hisense for their attention to detail in this department. My wife always complains when helping me unpack and mount a TV because she’s paranoid about touching the screen and rightfully so. Hisense is the first manufacturer I’ve seen include a 3-inch strip of plastic on each side of the screen where you’d naturally grab to lift it. That kind of attention to detail immediately sets the tone for the quality of the product. My ONE Complaint: After a few days of use, my only issue is the thickness. It might not matter to most, but for me, it’s slightly disappointing. While the depth is only 3 inches, once mounted on the wall, it’s definitely the thickest TV I’ve owned in years. My living room is part of a great room, so the side of the TV is visible from both the kitchen and dining room. The U7 sticks out more than I’d prefer. That said, every other feature more than makes up for it. All pros and cons considered, this TV is 5-stars anyway you look at it. I love the decision to use Google TV, I love that Hisense is using AI to improve the U7’s already killer features, I love the price point and I love that I finally found a TV that provides the best user experience I’ve ever had with a TV. Top specs and no compromises… It doesn’t get better than this.

Nowadays it seems like buying a TV is as complicated as buying a car with all the various makes and models. In recent years Hisense has only complicated this even more as what used to be a brand you could write off for inexpensive and low quality TVs is no longer the case. The Hisense U7 series has really become a strong competitor in the TV space and now this year with the MiniLED and ULED technology there really are very few reasons to purchase any other TV other than this one without doubling or tripling your price range. First right out of the box you can tell Hisense has continued to emphasize a premium quality product as the frame and base are not cheap plastic. The base here (even for 65 inches) included two metal legs with the centerpiece you attach for a more sophisticated look rather than the two awkward legs on each side of the TV that most manufacturers opt for. This also allows for a more sturdy TV and for those using a smaller TV stand this is a nice feature. Two more things before actually talking about the performance are in regard to the remote and the ports. It seems like between my wife and kids we are constantly cycling through various TVs throughout the house and this remote is my absolute favorite. I understand some people's desire for a small remote, but I much prefer this remote that is large enough not to constantly go missing and that has a premium feel to it. The buttons are also extremely well designed and the shortcut buttons are actually useful as Netflix, Youtube, Prime Video, and Disney are all actual normal streaming services whereas they didn`t just ask for the largest bidder where TVs end up with shortcut buttons for Crunchyroll or other obscure streaming services. Also the programmable additional favorite button is greatly appreciated. Then the remote being backlit is just icing on the cake, especially at a TV of this price point. Then in regard to the ports this TV has everything you need with 4 HDMI ports that all output at 4K 165Hz, 2 USB ports, Ethernet, Digital Audio Output, Headphone Jack, AV Input, and your Antenna connection so again there really is nothing further you could ask for here. When powering it on though the setup was a breeze as the Google interface is by far the superior interface nowadays especially for those who may already be in the google smart home ecosystem. However, the TV does support Alexa and Apple Homekit. I will say with the internal processor the interface is extremely snappy and even outpaces the new Google Streamer that I have on another TV in my home. So enough with the setup as the performance of this TV is what really sets it apart from competitors in this price range and even those in price ranges above it. First with the QLED component I can say that the colors here really pop and the various ranges of colors able to be output clearly making everything I've thrown at it extremely realistic and vibrant. The Mini-LED and 3000 dimming zones are where you really see the realism though as the deeper colored shadows and highlights truly make it look like you are viewing the picture as in real life. The vast amount of dimming zones nearly eliminates any haloing (where a bright glow appears around dark objects). There were various scenes where it even came close to that OLED performance such as when there was a bright moon in a dark sky there was very little white bleed into the black sky and that line that separates the white moon and black sky was extremely crisp and defined. This facet is so difficult to describe through words and even pictures, but for the sake of the argument I can say that this feature typically would cost hundreds of dollars more on those bigger name brand TVs. Two other aspects of the picture that I have to mention are the glare and gaming components. First with the glare, I`m not sure what type of coating they put on the TV but it has nearly minimized the glare without any compromise in viewing angle. Then for those gamers the 165Hz refresh rate truly held up when I hooked my PC up to the TV to see if it would truly hit that full 165Hz and it did in a multitude of games. The last thing to mention briefly is sound as I know most are going to hook this up to a soundbar, but I was extremely impressed again with the sound here as you see 2.1.2 multichannel audio and think it's probably a gimmick, but the the sound here really does mirror that of high end OLED TVs. I know I`ve basically said this is a perfect TV and I really do believe that. Hisense is punching well above its weight class with this TV and at this price point there truly is nothing that is going to beat it from a quality standpoint. From the premium build quality and interface to the standout performance there truly are no faults with this TV. There is no need to spend any more money on a higher end TV unless you are going to the top of the market with an OLED TV and for that reason I would recommend this TV for nearly everyone in the market for a new TV.

I have been going back and forth on the final score I want to give to this Hisense TV. I am giving it 5 stars, because I can't give 4.5, so I will include an asterisk. While this issue lies in the software side of the TV and not the actual picture that is shown on the screen. Would also like to point out that I am a gamer and spend time making sure the image of whatever I am watching or playing is the best it can be. With that said, this set does 4K gaming proud once the settings are configured. When I received the set, I had 1 other person helping me set it up and out of the box, which you should really do! I immediately mounted the TV to a floor stand because I live in CA, nuff said. On set up, the Google TV part came in and really helped by signing in and it finished the set up mostly from there, including wifi set up. The set prompted me for an update immediately and I had to stop and realized the wifi was already clearly working. Comes with several apps to use from streaming with MAX, to watching a soothing app (open window?) that has several nature scenes that play. There is also apparently a sample size of Google TV that is included in hopes of getting that sub out of you. I tested several games and came away very impressed overall. I have included 2 pictures showing the very limited gaming options and another picture ofthe movie UP. First, watching movies on this TV is pure pleasure. My family has never spent this much time together in the same room consecutively....ever. Love it. Coming from an LG C3, I was hoping for more options for on screen menus. For example there are only 5 options in the gaming section including longer frames per second (FPS) but nothing to show current frames the TV is giving out that I have seen. I personally loved this feature on the C3 and used it constantly. I use the FPS counter on Steam, but it does not always show for every game I tested. I am not sure if this is due to playing on screen 2 only from my PC. Additionally, I hope Hisense updates and adds more information on each setting and keeps them on. I cannot tell you how annoying it is to have to go into settings constantly to check to see if all the gaming settings are correct when playing. Yes I would recommend this TV for anyone interested in a 4K set for sports, movies or gaming. Also currently on sale for a great price on Best Buy.
