Synopsis

Hop
Jobless slacker Fred (James Marsden) discovers that hares make horrible houseguests after injuring the Easter Bunny (Russell Brand) and agreeing to nurse the little hopper back to health in this animated comedy from the writers of Despicable Me, and director Tim Hill (Rocko's Modern Life, SpongeBob SquarePants). For the past 4,000 years, the Easter Bunny has brought joy and candy to kids all across the globe; however, the time has come for a new Easter Bunny to take over the tradition. But while EB is the next in line to receive the official title, he couldn't care less about becoming the official bearer of chocolate eggs and jellybeans. Escaping to Hollywood in a bid to find fame and fortune, EB hops in front of an oncoming car driven by Fred, who agrees to give him a place to recover until he's healthy enough to hop along home. Now, the harder Fred struggles to stop his furry new companion from sending his life into a tailspin, the more satisfaction he begins to get out of his newfound responsibility. With a little luck and a whole lot of patience, Fred just might become the man who saved Easter for everyone. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A fun film for all ages (almost)

James Marsden (ENCHANTED, HAIRSPRAY) is just right for the role of a worthless guy, Fred, who just won't get on with his life. Sort of a "Failure to Launch" situation. He happens to run into the son of the Easter Bunny, E.B (voiced by Russell Brand), who doesn't want to follow in his dad's pawsteps on Easter Island. But they have one thing in common, Fred loves Easter from his childhood, and can't help but want to aid the young bunny when his father, and Easter are in trouble. A great addition to the cast are a flock of little yellow chicks who try to take over Easter. This is definitely not a religious take on Easter, but still fun, and it should not bother anyone because it is total fantasy, and the characters are wonderful - especially E.B., animated in a way that you can certainly believe his right there, crawling all over Fred.

    Not The Best Holiday Movie

While cute and amusing, and the graphics are good, Hop is not exactly the best holiday movie I've purchased for my kids. Granted, making a movie that's heartwarming for Christmas is far easier a task, but with the talented writing staff at Illumination I just expected a lot better than James Marsden hamming it up with a rebellious teenage Easter bunny wanna be rock star while an evil chick (yes you read it right, a fluffy little yellow chick is the bad guy) plots to over throw the Sr. Easter Bunny and take over the holiday by filling baskets with worms and bird seed! You will get some laughs, but this is by far the weakest link in the chain of Illumination films and I'd recommend Sing or Depicable Me well before it.

    No Digital Copy?

I was disappointed to purchase this for in-store pickup and get there to see that the item is not as pictured/described in the online posting. The version handed to me at the store - same SKU # as listed online - does NOT include the digital copy, just Blu-Ray and DVD disks. While this is not the end of the world, it is disappointing because what I received is not what was shown here. If there are no longer versions of this movie available with the digital copy (as seems to be the case), then the listing here needs to be updated.

I really wanted to get this movie for my little one, but for our purposes, we need a digital copy. I ordered online and picked up in the store; the copy I received however did not include a digital copy. The associate checked; none of the copies of this film included the digital copy. The UPC code is the same as on the website, so presumably none of the DVD's include the digital copy.

This movie was more than I expected!! I put it on for my 6 year old when it was bed time, she was so tired though she didn't even get past the previews. Me on the other hand got stuck. Once I started watching it I was hooked. My husband watched it the next evening and really enjoyed it. So all said and done my 2 year old boy, 4 year old girl, 6 year old girl and myself and my husband have watched this movie several times in the past 2 weeks and ALL of us love it!!

Though they advertise that it contains a "Digital Copy", the digital redemption code in EVERY copy of the movie in the store expired August 27th, 2012, or 6 1/2 years ago! The store opened them trying to find one that wasn't expired, without success. The "Digital Redemption" group of BB could offer no help. Don't buy if you expect it to have a digital code as was advertised.

It was definitely a cute movie, although it seemed to be unsure of where it wanted to be in audience range. Most of the movie seemed to appeal to teenagers and young adults wanting to do what they feel they should do for a career, but the ending was reminiscent of a happy ending to a children's movie. Either way, it was cute, and while I didn't personally find it hilarious, I'm sure kids would enjoy it.

This film is just fun to watch. Good cast, good pacing, animated characters and special effects that have held up well, as the movie has aged. Its bright, cheerful, very colorful, fun, and it looks fantastic on my 4k TV that is upscaling from Bluray.. An Easter movie that the entire family enjoys and it stays enjoyable year to year.
