I'm positive that this artist will be a household name in a little while. Hope Waits is simply one of the finest singers I've ever heard. She's obviously got a deep understanding of the blues, a fine sense of understatement, and a wonderful sultry voice that I, for one, can't get enough of. Her renditions of classics is outstanding - when was the last time Drown In My Own Tears really brought a tear to your eye? and has anyone ever heard a more sizzling version of I'll Be Satisfied? -, her choice of contemporary material shows maturity and taste (and, boy, does she deliver on Dylan's Ring Them Bells). The real test of whether she's got staying power lies in her own writing, though. And indeed the self-penned songs are the album's highlights. Her own Ignatius and Fortune Teller are spellbinding. Producer Peter Malick has done a great job creating seamless transitions from jazz to blues to Americana. And he has written You Crossed The Line, a song that Hope Waits hits way out of the ballpark. If there's any justice in the music biz, Crossed The Line is the song that will break Hope Waits. Do yourself a favor and be among the first to discover this amazing new artist.
