Great All-in-One Laptop!
|Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Better than I expected! I really though that the 10750H was going to be a huge bottleneck for the 3070 Max-Q, but so far, it is on par with the Ryzen 5 3600 I have on my current PC. I was looking to purchase this laptop to replace my ~$800 PC and I am satisfied! I don't like the fact that it only came with 512GB of storage, but I do like that they have an additional M.2 slot for another SSD. I bought a 1TB Samsung SSD for this laptop and upgrading is fairly easy and only took me 5 minutes. Fans do get impressively fast and loud, but are only at its fastest when Performance mode is turned on. For games older than 3 years, leaving the mode on Comfort will still yield high frames per second with quiet fans and low CPU temperature. If you do get this laptop, I highly suggest installing ThrottleStop, as the current CPU configuration has BD PROCHOT enabled, which throttles the CPU, even if the CPU temperature is only at 75 degrees. I've always had this program running and monitored the CPU temperature and it never surpassed 80 degrees on older games, and 92 degrees on more demanding games with the fan speed on auto. Without ThrottleStop, I've experienced a lot of stuttering with FPS ranging from 15 to 200 frames in Black Ops Cold War, which is a very odd feeling. Build quality is excellent, except for the fact that the screen casing is made out of very flexible plastic. I don't really mind though because it is mostly on my desk. I haven't had the opportunity to travel with this PC yet, and the flexible screen may cause an issue when in my backpack. The 300Hz 1080p panel is AMAZING. Low latency, OLED Screen for darker blacks, and 1080p is sufficient for a 15 inch laptop. The i7 and 3070 is great for competitive titles especially with the 300Hz screen. For portable use, HP really makes it easy for you to squeeze as many hours as it can to bring this laptop on the go. In the OMEN Gaming Hub app which is preinstalled, you can switch between the integrated graphics and the 3070. I'd also change the refresh rate to 60 or 100 Hz so that the monitor isn't eating battery so quickly. Keyboard has a fantastic layout as it is the same layout as my desktop keyboard. It also has all of the Media functions, lit up in LED so I don't have to tab out of what every I am doing to change a song on Spotify. I really hope that there are no issues with this laptop down the road, as I am really happy with this purchase. This laptop is a great replacement for my desktop and laptop, which combined is more than what this laptop costs.

Worth the price!

Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5This is a fun little laptop! I should have held out for a 17 inch but with an external monitor it's a gaming beast. I primarily play Warzone and Omen gets as many frames as my 3080. Make sure to get a mini-display to display port cable. I also added a 1TB NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 because 500GB isn't enough and the one that came with it was Gen3 (see pics). Back of laptop comes off easily. Only complaints I have and why I didn't give it 5 stars: FEDEX sucks for shipping and I paid extra to have it delivered at earliest date. Laptop was late and I wish companies wouldn't use them. The stickers on the laptop aren't aligned correctly which is more a quality problem (see pics).

Strong gaming machine for the money
|Posted .Features
Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5This is a great laptop for its price! Pros: + It is not that hot as the other laptops. I was able to play Cold of Duty WWII for 2 hrs with laptop on my lap while sitting on the couch (playing at the desk after a day working at it - nahh!). I am not entirely sure what made the difference but my guess it is all - the good cooling system, the factory tuning, the new 8nm tech process of rtx30 series. Compared to Alienware M15 with 2070s this is super cold and quiet. + Good screen. 300Hz and it is on a brighter side (also brighter than the Alienware M15 R3). + Mux switch - you can switch between hybrid mode (NVIDIA Optimus which automatically chooses which graphics card to use (intel or discrete) on the go but takes a cut of performance) or discrete GPU only, right in the Omen Control center (requires reboot) + Good upgradability - no soldered RAM (has 2 slots), easy to open. + It is small enough, the power supply is compact (~2 times smaller than Alienware's) + Keyboard and the touchbar are okay. I personally liked Alienware's kb more but this is just me. The touchpad... well, compared to macbook's all other touchpads are terrible. But this one is better than the Alienware's at least (no drops while sliding with the fingers). + I like the design. A good touch of the reflecting omen logo on the back + Hinges can get the screen all the way back (better when gaming on your lap) Cons: - Plastic feel - it's not terrible. Just some flex on top and the bottom. Inside is good - the main surface is aluminum. At the same time plastic on the bottom feels cold all the time (good for you lap lol) - Some wobbling in the screen hinges (but no backlash!) - A bit too angular on the bottom - I would appreciate a little more rounded edges here and there but this is minor. On the other side - a plastic grill on the bottom really helps with cooling when not on a hard surface. And the main thing, I hope it was just my sample so don't taking it into account when giving 5 stars - I had difficulties with installing some Windows updates and the games from Xbox Game Pass. Spent a couple of days googling the error codes and trying to solve it and another day sharing a screen with Microsoft support trying to resolve it. Tried to reset windows multiple times from local disk and from cloud - nothing helped. Still not sure if it is a software issue (McAfee, ExpressVPN that come with the laptop) or the hardware. I think the latter as I tried to clean up Windows from the bloatware. Could be a RAM issue of some kind. Result: returned to BestBuy, going to get another open box again.

Manufacturing mistake or fixable error ?
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Pros - Bright & Colorful screen, Really nice keys, quite fast when doing minor browsing and watching videos. Cons - Can get load(expected from a 3070 mobile ver), Thermal(Intel thing which is respectable), *DRIVERS ISSUE* I'm prob one of the unlucky person who bought this with a manufacturing error. First time I boot the thing, everything seems to be running all well and smoothly, I tried installing games to test the benchmark and all that but, the first ever game I opened gave me an error about the drivers. I tried installing the latest drivers and still no luck. Tried DDU to uninstall hoping that it'll work but, still no luck. IF anyone is willing to help me out with the issue just leave a feedback about this issue I'm having. Sorry for my poor English grammar.

THEE "Affordable" Gaming Laptop to Get.
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5At first I got the Asus Tuf b/c I'm an Asus fanboy and was expecting ROG like performance. Unfortunately I was mistaken, the CPU in the RTX 3070 TUF is a 4 core Cpu, a MAJOR bottleneck for the 3070. I got this laptop and the performance difference for "only" the $200 increase is night and day. The keyboard and speakers are better too interms of volume and quality and don't get me started on how great the cooling is, the TUF felt like it was going to catch fire. The ONLY downside is the chassis is plastic and has some flex but nothing I'm worried about. Don't underestimate the CPU like I initially did, it will cripple the GPU at only 4 cores.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5If this is in your budget, buy it. The graphics are amazing, I played RDR2 on default graphic settings, which is default to ultra on everything and the game runs crystal clear. The cooling system in this thing is really impressive for a laptop. I played GTAV for hours with it on my legs and it never got hot.

Q: QuestionWhen did this go on sale? It says sold out but I’ve been checking for 3070 laptops every 4 hours or so and never saw it listed before and it’s already sold out?
Asked by Danny.
- A:Answer I think it was a mistake to list it now they just have it listed I don't think it will come into stock. At least until hp makes their refresh for the year which I think usually happens by the end of the school year.

Q: QuestionWhat is the Total Graphics Power (TGP) of this laptop?

Q: QuestionOne of the pictures says its 300hz but someone answered saying its only 60hz, is it 300hz or 60hz
Asked by Ryan.
- A:Answer The HP OMEN 15-ek1013dx will be 300hz. If you look under the "From the Manufacturer" section, it indicates that the laptop will be 300hz. Under the "From the Manufacturer" section there is also another section called "Documents" that give a bit more details on the laptop.

Q: QuestionWhat is the TDP wattage of this laptop?
Asked by Thomas.
- A:Answer It’s base clock is 80W, and the boost is to 100W. The link below is a mashup of their 2020, and 2021 specs, but it clearly shows 100W max boost for the 3070. I expect it to perform slightly below the Zephyrus G15 3070 since the Zephyrus has a slight overclock from the factory, a slightly better CPU, but it has the same 80W—100W range. I inferred 80W base power draw because 1290MHz corresponds to 80W. The specs clearly state 100W, though. https://www.omen.com/us/en/laptops/2020-omen-15-amd/specifications.html

Q: QuestionWhats a good external hard drive for this laptop, ssd or hdd? Sorry but due to the same 500 gig ill need more sppace and want to buy the correct one. Thanks
Asked by ckjohn39.
- A:Answer Buy an M.2 NVME for this laptop instead of an external hard drive because HP provides an extra slot to plug and play. 1TB can cost around $90-150 and 2TB can range from $210-400 depending on how fast you want it. If you don't care about speed or portability, I've tried a 2TB Seagate 5400rpm hard drive for $80 which is great for an external hard drive over USB3.
