Great HP laptop!Posted .
This is a great laptop for the basic non-gaming user. Got it shipped overseas and when i got it, it worked like a charm. Windows 8.1 is awesome. After all the updates, it runs great. No problems yet. Highly recommended and it was an awesome black friday deal!I would recommend this to a friend

The cheapest i7 to start souping-up!Posted .
I find it rather strange that Moore's Law hasn't kept up. The offerings from HP in this price range are rather limited. We're still only at 750GB hard drives, when hard drives should be dirt cheap. And 4GB to 6GB of memory, and MAYBE 8GB if you want to spend a few hundred more; but I digress. Having said that, this computer has a nice i7 chip which offers much potential to become a fast machine. The 6GB of memory is okay for most people, and the official specifications say it is non-upgradable but it actually is expandable to 16GB! The HP support website has a "Maintenance and Service Guide" which explains how to do it, starting on page 75. The chapter is called "Component replacement procedures." You can also clone and replace the drive with a solid state hard drive and this computer screams along at blazing speeds! If you need to utilize the original drive for storage, you can ditch the DVD drive and buy a 3rd party hard drive caddy to fit in its place. This will allow you to use 2 hard drives at the same time. (Because this laptop is one of the few that still comes with a DVD drive.) Why didn't HP place a service port in the back cover to upgrade memory and hard drive is beyond comprehension. This is why I'm only giving it 4 stars. Also, a num-lock light would have been nice, as well as back lit keys. Most people are willing to spend a few dollars more for these conveniences. All in all, it's a great machine for the money and it has a nice number pad on the right. The keyboard is easy to type on, and the LED screen is great. I'm impressed with the beatsaudio sound quality, and the fact that it has USB3 and an HDMI port. It only has 3 USB slots, and the SD card sticks out a tad too much when fully inserted. The build quality is impressive and it does has good ventilation ports on the left side. It also has a decent quality cam as well. I do recommend this computer, and it's the best offering for the money at this time. It will last a long time, and it's an HP!I would recommend this to a friend

Great Budget LaptopPosted .
After having a Sony Vaio laptop for 5-7+ years, I decided it was time to upgrade to a new laptop, so I bought this on Black Friday as it was one of the deals they were offering online. Seemed like a sweet deal since I wasn't looking nor willing to buy a high-end laptop like a Macbook (too expensive for my blood!). It arrived on December 2nd, so I've had this laptop for about a week. This is first time I've used Windows 8 and while I have heard bad reviews about it, it has been an interesting experience thus far. It's taken some getting used to, trying to find out where to access programs and such, but I think I've managed to get acclimated to the system. Love the 15.6 inch display; it's the perfect size as 17-inch laptops are a little bit too big and heavy and under 15-inch laptop are a little bit too small for my eyes. The only thing that bothers me is that I feel like the colors are a kind off. It looks normal, but it also looks a pit more "pale" even though I've adjusted the brightness and color calibration. But it's not a huge deal, just something I have to get used to. Sound quality is great, and just the performance of this laptop is amazing though this is a MAJOR upgrade compared to my old laptop so of course anything will seem like a big improvement. Also love the design of this laptop as well. Its build is made of plastic from what I've read which is a pretty nice thing as it doesn't add too much weight. The outer textured finish makes it look like a premium laptop. The keyboard is smooth and responsive and having the numerical keypad is a plus! It'd be cool if the keyboard was back-lit, but it's not a deal-breaker just something nice to have. I like the size of the mouse trackpad, but I'm too keen with the buttons that kind of...pushes into the laptop. It feel weird to me, but I use a mouse most of time anyway, so it's ignorable. And like with most other laptops, it comes with a lot of pre-installed programs which I greatly dislike, but I just deleted the ones I didn't want and it's good to go. Overall, this is a very worthy and impressive laptop for the price being offered. Great performance and specs for your typical average users such as myself that doesn't do a lot of gaming and doesn't require a whole lot of space and processing.I would recommend this to a friend

it was either this or the Envy touch with AMD 10 processor. Difficult choice. I'm not a gamer, so i chose this with the I7 - i dont need a quad core. and for 499.00 it is very much worth it. And supposedly the touch screens put a lag on gaming. This laptop is very sleek - keyboard feels great. Do not let the plastic shell deter you! And this is a full 15.6 display, which is also a bonus. I also have a 15g007dx AMD A8 Series 4gb mem 750gb hd "Flyer Red" that i was able to purchase a couple weeks ago as a deal of the day for 299.00. But no Beats audio and the webcam is vga, not hd. I original bought this 15-P100DX for my son, but then he decided he liked the red one better because of the way it felt. I told him he was crazy! Sooo then i thought about returning this one because i also just bought a Dell I3542-8335 for 399.00 - which my daughter loves because it's a touch (my dell 1555 from 2009 that she uses for homework isnt cuttin' it for her anymore) I highly recommend this hp, great price great specs. I hope it last for many years. I do not know much about the stability, longevity of Toshiba hard drives. Will have to wait and see i guess cam with 6 months of webroot - 3 machines, I havent installed it yet - I would uninstall McAfee and maybe use my Avast. At this point, I can honestly tell you - do not take to heart any super picky, nonsense 1 or 2 star reviews, applications can be uninstalled or turned off via windows features. Make sure you check for windows and hp updates and also update the BIOS. THere is nothing sneaky about the bloatware - maybe there are tons of people who like to have all the shortcuts to Snapfish and bing maps, ebay, amazon and whatever else there is. I just removed what i didnt care to use.I would recommend this to a friend

Budget laptop with a fast processorPosted .
The price was right when I got it for $499.99 plus tax. I bought it for the fast core i7. Beware, it has the low end core i7, but it is fast enough for my purpose. It's much faster than the core i3 laptop that I am replacing. It's a budget laptop. You don't get touch screen. The keyboard doesn't have back light either, However, the keys are very responsive and easy to type on. The exterior looks cheap (cheap plastic). However, when I open the lid, it looks acceptable to me. It is a thin laptop (less than an inch). It does come with a dvd rw drive (nice). The power adapter is also small (nice). I am still trying to get used to the track pad without button. The screen looks O.K. to me as my aging eyes are not as sharp anymore.I would recommend this to a friend

Good solid laptopPosted .
So just got this baby today. I've been playing with it since I got in the house. I really like it! It's exactly what I wanted without having to spend an arm and a leg. I needed a laptop with a nice keyboard. I like HP keyboards, easy to type and the buttons are nicely separated from each other. The keyboard does not light up, but I don't mind, it's a minor thing. 750 GB is fine for me, don't plan on loading up my computer with a bunch of stuff. 6 GB RAM, lets me do what I want to do. i7 intel core processor, never thought I'd get one for this price to tell you the truth. Most are expensive. Decent sound with the beats audio. 15.6 screen, great! Not too small, not too big. Lightweight, easy to carry. Windows 8, meh, but I'm used to it. Still does everything it needs to do so I have no complaints. I'm usually not a fan of the pad on laptops so I'll probably buy a small wireless one to take with me. There is no number lock indicator light, another minor detail, I'm ok with it. Because of the two minor things I'm not giving it a perfect 5 stars but overall I'm super happy. This computer is everything I was looking for and I'm so glad that I got it for such a great price.I would recommend this to a friend

Good Lap TopPosted .
I picked this up for black friday so i paid less then the regular amount, I use it as a gaming lap top mainly for League of Legends and do not have any issues with lag unless it is the servers fault. It can handle Wild Start without a problem. It runs smooth I like the keyboard and starts up fast. The speakers are decent, better then your average lap top speakers. For office use I don't see a problem and for recreational use either, it is fine for gaming but the graphics card isn't the best out there. All in all i am happy with this lap top because I paid 499.99 and if you were to pick this up for gaming at the regular price i would just wait and get gaming lap top for a bit more with a much better graphics card.I would recommend this to a friend

Overall a good laptopPosted .
Pros 1. i7 4510U for less than $500 2. Good finish and styling 3. Nice keyboard 4. Good batt backup (i7 4510U processors consume much less power) Cons 1. 8GB RAM and 1TB or either one of them could have made it a complete package. Some of you may still want upgrade the RAM if you tend to run memory intensive applications 2.Lot to unscrew for RAM/HDD upgrade 3. No default bluetooth, but you could buy an external bluetooth dongle This is a great laptop for this price. But if you are a developer planning to run app servers, eclipse and other dev tools or other heave apps then you may want to consider 4700MQ or 4710HQ i7 processors.I would recommend this to a friend

Q: QuestionRecovery (GB) memoryI recently bought this laptop, refurbished by geek squad, and I noticed that RECOVERY (D:) is 2.62 GB free of 23.4GB. Shouldn't that be all free? I know it's refurbished but shouldn't this be out of any files etc.? In my knowledge, recovery stores a lot of stuff. What happens if I want to fix something with the laptop and find that I cannot due to lack of storage? Or what if the files hidden in the Recovery file is bad? I'm scared it will affect my laptop's life in the future. Also, what does the "6GB Memory" mean? Where do I see that? Thank you!
