HP - Pavilion Laptop with AMD Turion™ 64 X2

I purchased this laptop a few days ago to replace one that died suddenly. I am impressed. I have been a daily laptop user for the past 3 years (in grad school) and I can tell a substantial difference in this new machine. Now, I'm no gamer... but everything I have tried on this new machine has been great. It is fast, relatively light weight, bright, and easy to navigate. I think it will be hard to find a better machine in this price range... I looked.

I bought this laptop for a best price. I searched all over internet for the reviews but found none...So i wanted to write a detail review after using it for almost 2 months. 1) Its AMD Turion with 1.8 GHz which is equal to Intel Dual Core2 1.66 GHz. (You can get the stats from AMD website or from this website http://technology.domain4fun.info/IntelCore2DuoVsAMDX2.html 2) Its 2 GB ram with 533MHz speed and as far as i tested the Graphic Card is of 32MB dedicated and it uses 559MB of RAM for graphics when needed. So it’s not for Good Graphic Game players...But i played older games like NFS-II and it worked perfectly. Pros : Best Design in the laptops, Good Display, Touch Buttons, Best sound clarity, Inbuilt webcam and mic, Almost all the ports and Interfaces are available, Has remote which will work with Windows Media Center using Infrared. Cons: Laptop heats faster, you can listen to the inbuilt fan sound little bit load when it runs, No Blue tooth. Performance: Windows vista with this laptop is good but still long way to go since most of the applications and devices are not compatible. If you want windows XP you need to format and load windows XP for which, it’s very hard to find the drivers for the laptop hardware. HP does not support for Windows XP drivers since it came with Vista. To experience a real dual core performance you need to stick to Windows Vista. Upto me Windows XP didn’t provide good performance of dual core after installing some patches from Microsoft and AMD. So better stick to Vista. Hard drive comes with 160GB. Don’t expect all the 160 GB space for you. ;-) . Around 9 GB is used for HP backup, Vista occupies around 20 GB and some of the space is occupied by HP system files. So when you open the laptop you will have a SOLID 120 GB free space. Sound clarity is one of the best in its class. This comes with Altec Lansing speakers and you will have loud and clarity sound. Don’t expect BASS from the small speakers. Overall great for laptops. Battery comes with this is not powerful and it withholds the batter for 1hr30mins when i watched the movie. Battery time depends on the type of applications and the load on laptop. I have tested the laptop for dual core performance... I Burned DVD, Converted a sample video from one format to other and watched movie on laptop at same time. DVD burning took a couple of minutes more than expected. It passed the dual core test with out any problems... Iam overall satisfied with the purchase for price i bought…only problem is it gets heat fast. Heat doesn’t create any problem until you start playing games. You can always over come the heat by using laptop cooling pads. Overall this laptop is good for Home users and College Students. Not for Graphic Game players. P.S.: Don’t forget to create to backup discs when you open the laptop for first time.It takes 2 DVD’s to take backup but it will be useful when some thing goes wrong to restore the laptop to factory settings.

This is my first notebook that I've bought and it's amazing. It's perfect for my lifestyle with the perfect amount of memory and great features like the web cam. The wireless internet is so easy to set up and Vista Premium comes standard on it, what more could you possibly want. The DVD player and remote make is efficient to watch movies and perfect for music. Everything you'll ever need in a PC is included. I recommend this product for anyone wanting something simple and easy yet perfect for and lifestyle.

Overall quite a nice machine. I also have an older HP for work that as taken a beating and which I have been very happy with. This, in addition to the price/features of this model, led me to choose it over comparable others. I have been using it for nearly a month now (upgraded the home setup) and the only thing I am not keen on is the top of the machine quickly gets very warm (where your hands are placed as you type). Vista is a bit quirky to get used to w/ the settings the machine comes preloaded with (to many items need to me repeatedly approved), but time will tell. Regardless, I’d say this machine is a good value.

I had to replace my old laptop, and this was the best choice for a balance between price and performance. This is not a top end machine, but I am not a top end user. The 15 inch machine still fits in my roll-aboard luggage. 17 inch machines are too wide. The dual processors and 2G RAM make a BIG difference. I love that I don't wait for anything. Web surfing, business, email, games, movies, and word processing all run at the same time with no interference or delays. The wide glossy screen is bright, sound is reasonable, and the keyboard action feels very good. Plenty of ports for peripherals.

I did some research before buying this notebook and decided to go with this one for all the features at this price point. It's very reliable, the picture is nice and vista is very cool. It is a little heavy at just under 7lbs. but it's not too much of a problem. the only other thing that could be improved on is the battery life; it doesn't last very long at all compared with some other machines, but again, not a huge inconvenience. Overall it is an excellent laptop. love everything else about it and would purchase an hp again.

I bought this notebook and loved it ever since. I'm not a Laptop person nor had i dabbled with Vista so i was quite sceptical at first. Very lightweight considering the power it holds. i was quite impressed with the functionality of not only the OS but also the entire setup of the PC. Hp has mad a great product here, the only thing they could have done better was made the integrated webcam standard on all models but otherwise i doubt i'll go back to my desk ever. Love my new laptop for it's nice large screen and huge memory. I take lots of pictures with my digital camera, and the screen quality is amazing. Webcam is nice to keep in touch with family and friends. I like that it comes with a remote to watch movies if you'd like too! It's got a bunch of USB ports so you can multitask too! The only gripe I have is the battery life. Depending on use, it will last about 2 hours on the pack. Nonetheless an excellent purchase.
