Awesome laptop! Value for $Posted .
Picked up this laptop at my local store. Breeze to order with speedy pickup, Super quick to setup (< 10 minutes including windows configuration). Great functions. Full key board which will benefit some users who prefer the additional keys for numbers, pg down etc. 4GB with 64 bit makes the machine super fast. Display was fast and so far Vista premium 64 bit works great. Installed all my IM apps (Yahoo, Live,Skype) and complete MS office package and is very fast to startup. Would recommend turning off some of the services to make it even faster. Comes preloaded with MS Works and a trial version of Norton Internet security. 17 inch widescreen is super sized and amazing to look at. The look and feel of the laptop is striking and super cool. Would recommend this for the user looking for entertainment and casual gamers. Serious gamers can upgrade to 8MB and probably can replace with higher model video card. Has a HDMI i/p. Has everything except finger print reader, bluetooth, Wireless N, tuner and some minor nice to haves! Webcam and microphone has good clarity and no setup is needed except in certain IM apps. Most IM apps configure the voice, sound playback and image. The laptop is heavy (~7 lbs) and if you think you need this to be very portable would recommend a strong and reliable backpack like Wenger or Kensington. Would recommend as a definite Best Buy!I would recommend this to a friend

Highly RecommendedPosted .
I bought this computer a little more than 2 weeks ago. The first one I bought kept freezing after loading programs but this one works great. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting with tech support in India, but they were kind and helpful for the most part. My biggest beef is that the case and screen smudge just by looking at it. Thankfully a cloth is included to wipe it down. This is my first laptop and although it is a little big and bulky, I am enjoying it immensely. It is wicked fast. I haven't used it on battery power much so I can't comment on battery life. I like that is has a number pad and I am finding Vista easy to use although I am not so sure about the 64bit. There are programs and applications that are not yet compatible with it. I'm not even sure what the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit. There options for Internet Explorer 32 bit or 64 bit but from what I've read, it is best to stay away from the 64 bit. The keyboard is quiet and comfortable. The screen is wicked big and there are 3 usb ports. I thought there was a card reader for photographs but the compact flash I use is not compatible. I haven't had time to explore the many features but so far, I find it exceptional. I would also like to comment on Best Buy. They were knowledgable and helpful and I had no problem returning the first one. They also have a price guarantee that allows you to get the sale price if it goes on sale within 30 days. In my case it did and I was credited with $150. Thank you best buy. I would highly recommend this computer. It is a great value for the price.I would recommend this to a friend

I got one tooPosted .
I bought this in December 2008. 2 months later I still fall freshly in love with it every time I open it up, which is several hours a day. My nephew asked my opinion on getting a solid laptop for him and his wife. I'm normally a Dell guy but saw the specs and the price on this and was so impressed that I recommended it to him (and he bought it) AND bought one myself. The 17" display and copper color is what caught my eye initially. This is one very attractive machine. The keyboard is spacious and responsive - a real joy compared to some other laptop keyboards I've used. It's big though, make no mistake. It took some getting used to having this beautiful beast on my lap when computing from the couch but I did get used to it and I'm lovin' every minute of it. 64-bit OS can be a plus or minus depending on your perspective but is needed in this case to enable full advantage of the 4GB RAM. Speakers have a nice sound but are surprisingly quiet for their size even when turned up on full. I find myself constantly trying to turn the volume up higher when watching a movie. The web cam is, IMO, a nice touch and good quality. My nephew and I talk to each other on Skype regularly and the video stream from the webcam looks great. Typical stuff -- comes with a bunch of unneeded apps. Go through add/remove programs when you first fire it up and remove the clutter you don't need to save space and boost startup performance a bit.I would recommend this to a friend

Outstanding LaptopPosted .
I bought this from Best buy when it was on sale. The screen itself is a great thing, its nice and big and clear as day, which on a laptop where I want to both catch up on my Chuck episodes and work on homework its great to have so much space. People complain about the glare, but I have used it both outdoors and in and have never had a problem The features on this laptop help it work out to such a great deal, 2 separate 2GB ram modules are outstanding, and the dual core processor handles most anything I throw at it with ease. 64 bit vista is nice, but it can still be improved a bit. I've gone through and disabled most of the excess programs and features I don't need and the system's responsiveness picked wayyyy up, I can even play COD4 on it without lag. The video card is OK, but of course its not gonna be top notch on a $649 laptop. Battery life is way nice for a big screen, I can squeeze out 2 hours and 45 mins on a full charge, and maybe more if I drop the processor frequency down from 100%. Seriously this was a great buy for the money, and I don't regret it at all, although I suggest wiping it off and keeping a microfiber cloth between the screen and the keyboard, within a day I already had scratches on the quickplay keys from some unknown source. People complain about the weight, but being in the Army, weight isn't a serious issue when its under 40lbs. Don't always think thin/lights are the best thing in the world, this laptop is worth the haul when you need the processing power.I would recommend this to a friend

It's Nifty I Surpose...Posted .
Value for Price is only a 5 because I got it during the $650 dollar sale. I wouldn't pay $800 as it is now though. The display, it's big and HD. Doesn't do gaming so well, but better than any 2-3 year old laptop now. As for performance, well I was expecting something amazing out of a brand new laptop. My expectations fell through. The laptop only has a 1.5gb/s SATA hard drive as apposed to the current 3.0gb/s SATA II's that are out. I hate to complain about it but with Vista running the system just gets dragged down. If the hardware configuration would allow me to install XP I already would have. DDR2 memory is nice, though I am not sure on the speed and frequency of it... Maybe it was just CDBurnerXP, but the optical drives read speed seemed ridiculously slow. I'd sit and wait on my frozen laptop until the disc I inserted was properly introduced. It doesn't have a firewire port, but I knew that when I bought it. The Infrared Remote that came with mine, well I haven't been able to use all the buttons in either Media Center or HP's QuickPlay. The Audio Volume and Controls have never allowed their use. The 8 cell battery is a nice thing to include on a 17" screen laptop. At least it'll pull us a bit more time of unplugged use. The AMD dual core is surely a wonderful thing with it's 64bit computing allowing Vista to run in it's obvious 64bit full glory. Burning DVD's at more than 4x speed have given me a couple problems... hopefully it was just the program in use. No wireless N, but that's no big deal really. The audio doesn't get too loud but it sounds good at 100 with the Altec Lansing speakers. I guess I'll finish this off with saying the touchpad seems a bit tricky to maneuver on with it's gloss finish. All in all it's nice, wish I would have read just a bit more into it regarding the hard drive and memory. P.S. I wouldn't recommend this to a friend because A) The sale is over and B) There will be something better for a cheaper price very soon, it's just how the computer world works. No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great Deal and A Smart BuyPosted .
This laptop has all the ideal features for those looking for a great Desktop Replacement. The weight is appropriate for this size of a laptop. The HD screen has amazing clarity, and with a built in webcam w/ mic you can't go wrong. Great Features: 1. HDMI - the hdmi port worked seamlessly with any monitor. I needed to watch a video for class, and chose to try this out. Worked without a hitch, plus the remote that comes with this computer worked with Real Player, as well as media player. 2. Processor and RAM - With a Turion X2 Dual Core 2.0 Ghz processor, this laptop can multitask like no other. It is even faster than my Desktop at multitasking: Word processing, Web Browser, Music, all at once, no problems. With 4GB or RAM (and upgradable to 8gb), this laptop is definitely future ready. 3. Battery Life - Yes, the battery life is a Plus. This comes with an 8-cell battery, which more than compensates for powering the 17in screen. I have not gotten less than 3 hours yet. I ran HDMI to output a 2 hour movie, still had over 30% battery life afterwards. If you lower the brightness level you can easily attain another 30 min or so. 4. You get a full size keyboard! My wife likes this feature. It comes with a regular number pad, and typing is very comfortable. Another plus with the setup is that there are touch sensitive volume controls and video controls at the top. 5. Speakers - The Speakers are powerful (made by Altec Lansing). Compared to many of the other laptops at best buy, including the Dell 15 series, MacBook, Macbook Pro, most Toshiba and Sony laptops, these HP speakers blow them all away. No contest. On top of that you get front audio ports. 6. Price - HP.com sells this computer for over 850$, no question this is one of the best deals Best Buy has had so far. If you worried about weight, it weighs maybe a pound more than standard 15 in laptops, but this is expected. With a lightscribe DVD-RW, a media card reader, 4USB ports (One which doubles as an e-SATA port), media remote, webcam, a bronze finish, and huge Hard Drive. This laptop is a definite Desktop Replacement, and good for those wanting to use this laptop for projects and presentations. Another neat side note: Comes with Windows Vista SP1 - 64bit OS On a side note, this doesn't heat up much. I've been using this laptop on a pillow for about 45 min now, and considering how large this laptop is, that is a good thing.I would recommend this to a friend

This one rocks!!!Posted .
I originally purchased the HP dv9925nr which was on sale for $749.99 and it was quite similar to this one. But I found that the dv9925nr has a buggy volume on-screen display that would freeze the apps that are open for 2-3 minutes. The only way to fix it is to disable the feature which annoyed me because I paid over $800 w/ tax for that laptop. I also found out that the dv9925nr's NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M video card cannot quite handle World of Warcraft. I could only get about 9-15 fps w/ minimal video setting and would lag big time. So I was very disappointed. After checking Bestbuy.com again I came across this newer model (dv7-1135nr) and I was surprised that it was cheaper and even came with HDMI. I also found that it has an ATI video card(ATI RADEON HD 3200 graphics RS780M). My older HP has a built in ATI Radeon x1300 and it handles WoW just fine so I thought the dv7-1135nr would handle it fine as well. I ended up returning the dv9925nr a week after purchase date due to the defective volume on-screen display and weak performance when playing WoW and decided to get the dv7-1134nr. Boy, was I happy that I got this one! First, for those WoW enthusiast, I can get around 30-62 fps, usually at 40sh fps when playing WoW. I didn't even have to change the laptop's power setting, though I'd recommend lowering the game's video setting a bit as this is a built-in card and shared memory but it handles WoW a lot better than the previous HP laptop I purchased. We've only have three days owning this laptop and so far we love it. My sister got one too now and she's been crazy about it also. They love the HP games that came with the laptop. The remote is a plus though I probably won't be using it that often. The cleaning cloth is a nice touch. This one does not come with ear bud headphones as the dv9925nr but I'm not complaining as I have those already. Thanks HP and thanks Bestbuy!!! P.S. The only sad thing is I bought this laptop for my wife and she's moving away to go to school full time....I'm really going to miss this laptop! /cry.I would recommend this to a friend

HP dv7-1135nr 17" LaptopPosted .
I purchased this model because of the features (check the specifications)and the sale price! After doing some extensive comparison with another laptop company beginning with the letter "D" and ending with two "LL's" and asking questions from friends who work in the IT Departments, I came to the conclusion that for what I'm going to be using this unit for, which is for photo editing and video transfers, this model and it's features are enough to do the job. The 17" widescreen is great and not to mention the extra full numerical keys! The touch pad takes a couple of minutes to get used to and the volume control just above the keys is a nice "touch". The memory is expandable up to 8GB! So if I ever need to add more down the road, I don't have to think twice. The set-up did not take that long. It took me roughly 30 minutes from power up to set-up. I'm connected to our wireless network immediately. The battery charge was pretty quick and the unit did not heat up unlike other laptops. Thanks to technological breakthroughs, laptops are now working a lot better than a few years ago! The weight of the unit is a bit on the heavy side. It didn't bother me, I'm still getting used to it. Hey...that's what you get when you go with the larger screens and extra bells and whistles! Finger prints cannot be avoided, however, there is a cleaning cloth provided by HP. They clean off easily, unless, you really have a dirty hands. Just don't use the laptop with lights or windows behind you. You might not enjoy the clear screen due to the glare. This is just part one...I hope I can do a follow-up next time. Take care everyone.I would recommend this to a friend
