A Gold Medal PerformerPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
This laptop is truly in a class by itself, thanks to the integrated Radeon 3200 graphics core. This is the exact same graphics core as the discrete Mobile Radeon 3450 available in much more expensive laptops. Its graphics performance is only slightly slower than the discrete 3450 because it uses shared main memory, but it’s only SLIGHTLY slower. This graphics core offers 2 outstanding features: 1 - The 3D gaming experience is far superior to every other integrated solution available today...period, and it is equal or superior to every discrete graphics solution at or below the Radeon 3450. 2 - The Radeon 3200 also supports full hardware HD video acceleration, which means you get flawless HD playback from either an HD TV tuner, or a Blu-Ray disk player (the DV5-1003nr comes with the Blu-ray ROM drive). (Note: some similar laptops - Toshiba’s mainly - offer Radeon 3100 graphics chips. The 3100 is identical to the 3200 with one exception: the 3100 doesn’t have HD video acceleration. Don’t expect the same video playback capabilities with the 3100 graphics.) I’ve owned this laptop for 3 weeks since the $599 sale. I have been excited about this laptop since it was first announced in June, because I understood about its graphics performance and affordable low price. Although I knew what I was buying, and I have still been blown away. The games I play run very smoothly; some at lower settings but that’s far better than not running at all, which is what you get with inferior graphics solutions. I also added a Pinnacle USB HDTV tuner with outstanding results. Using either Pinnacle’s software or Windows Media Center there is no hint of dropped frames or jerky playback. The color and clarity on the LCD is also outstanding. I recorded the Olympic Balance Beam final where Johnson and Liukin finished gold and silver; the playback of the recording was as outstanding as their performance. This is a Gold Medal winning laptop. In today’s video dominated world; a computer is only as good as its graphics subsystem. In this price range, this laptop has no peer. It has the perfect balance of a high performing processor, outstanding LCD, great feeling keyboard/touchpad, and outstanding integrated graphics (the failing of all other laptops at this price without the Radeon 3200 grahpics). Since it also has an eSATA port for high speed external hard drive access and an HDMI output, this laptop has created its own class: the HTLT (Home Theater LapTop). Record all the TV you want and take the laptop on the road to entertain the kids on those long vacation drives, or if they prefer, they can play their games instead. With the price of this laptop, you’ll even save enough money to afford the gas to go.

HDMI: THE FUTURE IS NOWPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
i'll just get to the point:..this laptop is equiped for the future. in one word: HDMI 2 months before my purchase i noticed that the newer laptop models had an extra connector to it....so i asked the sales rep and he infomred me what it was, but was vague if it's use.. Shortly therafter i purchased a HDTV and noticed there was some extra connectors to it...2 weeks later i bought my first PS3..and again i saw it came with an HDMI connector..what's up with these connectors i thought to myslef...found out that instead of using component cables, i could just use a single cabe to connect my ps3 to my HDTV..and let me tell you i was blown away with ps3's Blu-ray and HDMI TV. so i started to put 2 and 2 together..i went back to Bestbuy and bought this laptop.. i decied to make use of it's HDMI connector and hooked it up to my HDTV.. and lo and Behold i was looking at my laptop screen on my 40'inch TV in 720p..let me tell you i just fell in love with HDMI's cababilties... bought myself a wireless mouse and keypad hooked it to my laptop via usb..and now i can just kick back in the comfort of my couch and type away.tha'ts not all..i recently purchased a Denon reciever,( which bestbuy carries) with 4 HDMI inputs.. imagine coming home from work and turning on ur laptop and playing ur favorite song ...IN 5.1 SURROUND SOUND!!!!...or maybe you have some family living outside the US and hearing thier voice in your surround speakers need to to talk to ur boss via webcam and hearing thier voice echoing around ur living room..this laptop is going to make things fun for u...and what i also like is the "liquid metal alloy" cosmetic contemporary look it has...very sleek.. this sytem is very reliable very few or in any defects to the laptop...I"m very pleased with my purchase....so I say to you embrace HDMI...cuz you won't look at ur laptop the same way again....

Great Laptop with a few consPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I wanted a new Laptop and my friend showed me this for $600 ($250 off original price). I gotta say, after doing a lot of laptop browsing, you can't get a better deal for the price. ATI Radeon HD 3200 is a Class 3 Video Card that you would normally find at a much higher price in laptops. Big HD and sufficient RAM to run pretty much anything. I like the sleek design as well. The battery life is pretty disappointing. Most laptops can run at 3 hours no problem, but this one runs around 2 hours on power saving mode with half the brightness. One thing I'm trying to figure out right now is if my Video Card is underperforming. Most laptops you see that are about $600 have Class 5 Video Cards (Intel x3100 or Radeon x1250, stuff in that range) that can barely run anything very smoothly that's made after the 90's. I read that the ATI Radeon HD 3200 is a great integrated graphics card (oxymoron?) that performs really well for being integrated. I've tried running Counterstrike: Source and it does well on the Video Stress Tests, but in-game wise, when there's a lot of explosions and stuff, the fps drops to 15-20. This is definitely not preferred when playing games. I've dled the drivers and it hasn't made much difference so I'm still researching it, but others have gotten better results so take my word with a grain of salt. However, I know for sure that this card can run games like WoW at a pretty good quality. So if you're just looking for games like that, you're safe. But then again, if you're not looking to play games on this, then this doesn't apply to you at all. I would normally give this a 4.5 but we can't give it that so.. it's closer to a 5 lol.

frustrating at first, but great nowPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
i got this pc for my birthday and it was great. that night i installed a demo of portal, which worked until my computer shut down because of low battery. i restarted the computer and tried to play portal again after i put my computer on the charger. the logo showed up kinda off to the side where you could still see the desktop and it said the game stopped responding. i quit the game and almost immediately half way up the screen went pixilated in about every color imagineable. I returned it two days later. i got my second one and the same thing happened with a different game. now i was getting a little tired. i took it to geek squad and they tried to find the same pc but in a different batch. to no avail, they pulled out another one of the same batch. we installed the game on the new computer after vista booted up and the same thing happened on the new one. another man from geek squad came over and said that that was an ATI problem. the first geek squad guy went to ATI's website, installed a driver, and i had no more problems. THANKS BEST BUY AND GEEK SQUAD!

Amazing laptop for the price!!!Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
I purchased this laptop about a week ago, and i had a couple of problems, such as it didnot turn off!, it could not go into sleep mode, i could not install any software, and it took me 3 days to finally get it coneccted to the internet. with all of these problems going on you are probably wondering why I gave a five star review. I just to get back to store and each one completely restored it for free. I have not had any problems since. As for the Internet that was just a simple problem with the configuration of my router. After I fixed the Internet worked fine. Now all of my programs are installing perfectly the computer is shutting off fine. upon playing around with the laptop, i discovered that it actually had voice recognition. i do not even need to touch my computer when i type, in fact, most of this review, i typed without touching the computer, i just said it. i am not having any problems any more all of my programs are installed, and it is connected to the internet. i still cannot believe i got this $850 for $600!!! 2.o GHz Processor, 250 GB hard drive, built in webcam, built in microphones, remote, amazing design, and multiple controlls such as volume fast forward rewind pause and play above the keyboard!!! But my favorite part is how the HP symbol on the top is silver when the computer is off, and then it glows when it is turned on. and all of the controlls for volume and play ect glow too!!! This is an amazing laptop, and when it goes back on sale, you would have to be an itiot not to get it!!!

Very pleased overallPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I am quite pleased with this laptop. I have had it for over a week and have had just a few minor problems. The problems mainly were programs not responding frequently, but it may be more of a vista error than the actual computer. The HDMI is very handy for hdtvs, bringing video and audio out of the one cable. The HD monitor is very pleasing when looking at pictures/movies/websites as well. The speed is fast and the ram is plentiful. Overall, I am pleased with this laptop's performance, with the exception of the battery life. I have mainly had it plugged in, but decided to bring it around the house and I was amazed at how fast the battery level went down. I changed some settings to save the battery, but it still went down very fast. It was at 20% in an hour and a half with just internet surfing. Disappointing but to be expected with an HD monitor? Even with that, It is a good buy for the price and is comparable to other brands that are in a higher price range. Hope this review helps someone make a decision!

I love this computer. :]Posted .I would recommend this to a friend
This computer is amazing. I got it not too long ago, and its my second computer, after another hp that i got a really long time ago(about 9 years ago), so it was nice to have up to date memory and other cool things. I'm only 15, so I was really hoping for the game "The Sims 2" to work with whatever laptop i got. For people who knows what the game is, you know that its best to have the best technology possible for the game to run smoothly. Thankfully, the sims works very fast with this computer, and i haven't had any trouble. From what I've seen The Sims 3 will work great on this computer as well, once it comes out. =D Another great thing is that when I ordered the computer, I got to pick it up from the store maybe 45 minutes later. After I got it I was connected to the internet almost immediately, so that was very convenient. The only thing that isn't that great is the battery life, but it really doesn't effect me much since i only use the computer at home, usually when its plugged in and charging. The best thing that I thought about the computer was the price online, since when I bought it, I think it was $599.99, and then i went to the store and found that it was selling for I think something over $900. I also saw in another store, it was over $1000, so as you can see, this computer is well worth the price. Hope you like the computer as much as I do!

Great laptopPosted .I would recommend this to a friend
I just bought this laptop for the $600 sale price and, unless something changes my mind, it was a great deal. I was hesitant about Vista, but it runs fast with the 3 gb of ram in this machine. I'm thinking of expanding mine to 8 gb, but it really does run just fine with 3. The build quality of this model is EXCELLENT. The keyboard feels great, the HP controls are convenient and laid out well, and all the ports are where they should be for easy access (which is rarer than you might think). The battery life leaves a little to be desired. Moderate usage (using wifi, occassionally streaming video, browsing the net) will get you about 1.5-2 hrs. Not terrible, but nothing special. I'm also a little bit disappointed with the screen resolution. The max resolution is 1280x800 and I, personally, like to run my cards at a high resolution to maximize my screen real estate. Note: This problem may potentially be solved when the 3rd party omega drivers for vista are released (omegadrivers.com for the ATI-uninitiated). Also, the laptop runs slightly warm. It doesn't seem in danger of overheating by any means (like my previous laptop...), but it is noticeable. All in all, I'm not sure you can beat this performance for the $600 sale price, and I'm not even sure you can beat it for the $849 retail. Recommended!
