A Laptop Perfect for College Students!
Posted .The big PRO's for me were the Duo processor--ideal for high speed performance--and the 500 GB of memory makes this HP perfect for storing iTunes music files and essay finals..not to mention the low price. It's a completely portable laptop with a high resolution screen (I use it for watching DVD's and it works wonders in high def) and the speakers are much more efficient than those in the G71 model. Plus, the laptop includes a media remote so I can watch movies and slideshows from my desk. I absolutely love the 7-in-1 media reader because I can import pictures from my camera without installing Kodak, and the 3 USB ports make transferring files quick and easy. Wi-Fi functions great and incredibly fast. You have to be careful about "babying" it with the charger, is you constantly depend on the AC then the 4hr battery life dwindles to about 2hrs. The scroll tool on the touch pad sticks occasionally and the speakers glich if you slide your finger across the touch volume to fast. Despite the large screen, veiwing webpages can be difficult and involve alot of scrolling. Webcam is decent, but this computer is not designed for editing photos or importing/editing videos. I would be careful about the 64 bit browser if you like programs or Gadgets that run on 32 bit--like Pandora--they may not run or install properly. Overall, the dv6-1355dx is a great starter computer for a college student and meets most personal computing needs.

Not Just What's On The Inside That Counts
Posted .I bought this laptop for my small business. It is my business. It goes where ever I go and I usually have a dozen applications all running at once, switching between them often. On the inside, this computer is perfect for my needs and is powerful enough to handle my high performance demands. On the outside, it's consumer junk. The keyboard feels cheap and the backspace and delete keys are starting to squeak after 3 months. The keys are glossy smooth and slippery. The finger mouse and plastic case feel the same, so it's hard to tell which one I'm touching without always looking down at my hands. My #1 biggest problem is the cheap, flimsy CD tray. The face plate is actually part of the case trim and has a pointed contoured corner that snags. When I pick up the laptop or move with it in my lap the CD tray pops open. When I slide it into the laptop case it pops open. If I barely pass your hand over the button when picking up the computer, the tray pops open. And I have to pull the tray out about 2" before I can trigger the latch to lock closed again. Several times I've nearly snapped the tray off because it popped open when I was sliding it into the laptop case. If HP would just put a little quality into the Pavillion case this would be a great computer.

HP- dv6-1355dx review
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendBought this laptop for 649.99 My second HP laptop, the first one, a DV6000 series, plagued with issues, defective batteries, bad display, bad WLAN switch, bad hard drive, keyboard failed twice, and the sound failed twice. As a result i was given 500 toward a new laptop just 2 years later, after originally spending $599 for the laptop and $199 for the PSP (now called the black tie protection plan). The remaining year on the PSP was not applicable to the new laptop . I had to purchase a new one with this Laptop. You may be wondering why I would go with Hp again after having so many issues, Well two reasons. One, I anticipate another 4 repairs within the next 2 years so that i can once again upgrade to a new laptop and apply a store credit toward the new one. Second reason, the DV-6000 was notorious for having issues and I believe that HP has learned from that series to not produce that sub-par stuff again also mow of the issues came from the repairs. each time i brought my laptop in they would fix one thing and break another, not HPs fault. really the only thing that failed that i can blame HP for is the battery twice, the Broad-Com the monitor and the WLAN switch. the hard drive was probably my fault as i like to dumb on my desk and sometimes ridiculously hard. OK now for the dv6-1355 Pros- not too heavy, large screen, large keyboard, number pad. The computer does not get hot at all, the fan is always running at low speed and overall all the computer is very quiet. The sound is great!!, not lout, but not that bad either, you can go into sound settings and EQ the levels at a loudness setting which helps, so overall great sound. The keyboard is not as easy to type on as a chic let style layout, but not that bad either, you get used to it fast, and they have a unique feel underneath your finger tips that almost seem soft, its strange, but nice at the same time. the computer's performance is great, CORe 2 is awesome. can't complain about that. Windows 7 is also nice too and easier to use than previous windows. I immediately removed Norton and a bunch of other junk that came with the PC to clean it up a little. ok now for the cons The biggest thing i have noticed that i don't like is the display I have 2 issues. First, the viewing angle does not compete with that of most other laptop monitors, picture changes drastically with just a few degrees of offset viewing, which ultimately means you can't share the screen with your neighbor, so no watching a movie with 5 friends around you, 2 at most. Secondly, the LED LCD display has a draw back. just search the web to find out more about this but basically the blues and yellows are way to intense and don't fit in well with any given picture. the smallest navy blue item in the background of a movie your watching will pop out and resonate in your retina. Its strange and takes a while to get used to.. LEDs are BLue by nature but manufacturing adds a yellow hue to produce near white light. what happens is the that screen favors the blues and yellows over all other colors so things just don't look like they do in real life or on a traditional non-LED LCD display, This is typical for this price range of computer, The new technology involves using multicolored LEDs that work together to produce white light. Overall it is strange and like i said takes getting used to, DO NOT use this laptop for photo editing to any degree on a professional level because of this problem. otherwise its a great monitor. the battery life brand new provided me with 2 1/2 -3 hours while i watched a full DVD and then browsed the web, the low battery warning was appropriately timed and provided me ample warning to charge or shut down The mouse pad is like glass, so your finger wont side like it does on plastic. no big deal, just get over it. lol, or go buy an iPhone screen protector cut it to size like I did and then place it on the touch pad for smooth glide action. works Great, just don't get one that is very glossy, they make ones that are a little rough in texture, these are better. Care full with the wireless button near the volume, if your taking an online exam and you go to adjust volume and hit the wireless you may disrupt your exam if you hit the wireless button by mistake. the graphics card is lintel, could have been NVIDA, which would have handled the display a little better, but oh well. The webcam is way better than those found on SONY, Asus, or Toshiba, that is to say the quality is higher than most i've seen. Sony and Toshiba have terrible webcams. no built in Bluetooth, would have been nice, but not a big deal they make USB Bluetooth adapters that are so small you don't even know they are plugged in. they finally got rid of that badly placed quick play touch panel, which was so annoying when you accidentally hit buttons. Ok well thats it. Good luck.

Great Laptop Buy!
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI needed a new laptop after my Dell Latitude of 4 years was finally slow enough to lose a race to a snail. After researching, I decided my laptop must have Windows 7 and at least an Intel Core 2 Duo processor or its equivalent, and have 250+ GB of hard drive space. Well that led me to the HP, which had everything I was looking for. Due to shipping problems, I was technically given a free upgrade to this model (I originally ordered the 250 GB model) after some great customer service, so I got this for a price steal! PROS: It's wide-enough to have a number pad next to your standard QWERTY keyboard, for those who can't stand typing #s using the horizontal row. Webcam is a great plus. Widescreen display lends itself to watching movies / tv shows and it comes with a media remote control, so you can sit back enjoy. I jumped from Windows XP to Windows 7 and found the transition easy and simple; 500 GB hard drive is plenty of space for all my music, photos and documents; HDMI and media card slots; CONS: It only has 3 USB ports (my Dell had 4); battery life seems a bit short for a new laptop but it'll last a 1.5 - 2 hrs without the plug; the Altec Lansing speakers have terrible sound when turned up higher--better off using external speakers or plugging in your headphones; all the surfaces are super-glossy, so your fingerprints are left everywhere and the screen may be hard to read in bright sunlight; Not necessary, but I would've liked a trackball; and finally like all new computers, it comes pre-programmed with a lot of "bloatware" that I find unnecessary and will slow your computer down, although I will say HP's media programs were decent and could further the entertainment enjoyment of the PC. Overall, I think this was a good buy. It is somewhat large, so not very portable, but runs smoothly and will take care of all my basic computing needs. Disclaimer: I've only owned this for 1-2 months, am not a "gamer" and have no real opinion on resolution, etc.

Great College Laptop
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI am a student attending a university and I understand how hard it can be to shell out seven-hundred dollars for a laptop. There are so many different laptops to choose from and so many different features. You may even be thinking, “maybe I should buy one of those nice little netbooks that are so portable and affordable, or maybe a reliable and classic Macbook,” first let me just say, don’t do it. I put to rest all of these worries when I bought the Hewlett Packard dv6 laptop, and I have not been disappointed. First off, I want you to know that I am not a very computer savvy person, but I have friends who are. They have told me that this laptop is a very reliable computer and comes with most of the bells and whistles that are wanted, but for a much lesser price than what most of the competitors are asking for similar laptops. I live with six roommates, who are also attending college, and three of the six have the same laptops and love them. The dv6 sports a 15.5 inch screen that is big enough to enjoy a HD movie or internet TV but still small enough to be quite portable. Being an Intel 2.2 Ghz processor, it has plenty of computing power to multi-task and handle most of the processes required from everyday laptop users, to the occasional user. If you are like me, you may think that it is easier to shell out a few more bucks and buy an easy to use Macbook to avoid problems with the windows operating system. Sure, I might have had to spend a little more time downloading drivers from the internet, but I believe a few minutes following the easy to use help guides is well worth saving $350. My favorite part is sitting down next to someone using a Macbook and being able to do just as much, if not more with my computer, but for a lot less.

Excellent value and feature set
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendLove this laptop for the value and performance at the price point. To get Windows 7, HDMI interface and 4GB of RAM at this price point is a huge plus. I connect to a N series wireless router and everything works perfectly. Windows 7 seems extremely stable thus far although the first thing I did was replace Norton with TrendMicro because I already had a license with them and hardened the laptop in preparation for my 7 yr old to use for online gaming. The only things I don't like about the unit is the shiny construction does cause some cleaning maintenance to keep it looking its best and the audio speakers included in the unit are not much better than an internal desktop pc speaker but other than that, I am very happy with the unit. I am in the computer business and have been for 25 years so I am quite knowledgeable of PC's and Mac's. I was considering replacing our home laptop with a new Macbook but in the end decided to buy this unit instead. Of course I would love to have the Mac but I already have an iMac 24. Using iTunes, it was simple to setup a connection directly to the iMac to stream all of my movies, tv shows and music so the HP is just fine for our new laptop and certainly saved me a lot of money when compared to the cost of the Macbook. I would recommend this unit for any standard home use functional requirements. My daughter loves to play games on it and use the internet while my wife uses internet and email. Now I can actually use my iMac since the attraction is now with the laptop. Yahoo!

Bargain deal for excellent system
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought the HP dv6-1355dx basically on a whim while being at Best Buy, browsing around and looking at the merchandise. I already had a laptop that i've been using for the last 3 years and it still runs great, so this purchase was definitely an impulse purchase However, what attracted me to the laptop in the first place was the configuration of the system for the price. As far as i remember, there wasn't any other system (HP or no) that was able to match the components listed on the specs for the amount listed. For one, it's good to know that i can eventually upgrade the RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB. Second, 500 GBs is plenty hard drive space for my needs. Third, i enjoy having the numeric keypad on the right. Four, nice, slick design The only gripes i have with my laptop is the glossy black casing (both the body and keys). Picks up handprints like nobody's business and it irritates me. The other gripe i have with the hardware is purely subjective: the video card. Even though it is an integrated card, the colours seem a bit off to me; my other laptop also has an Intel integrated graphics card and the colours are different Outside of my personal aesthetic issues with the computer, i am happy with my new laptop! HPs are quickly becoming a good option for most computer users that want a well-made system without having to spend the big bucks

Happy So Far
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI've had this laptop for about a week or two now. The key board is wonderful, the materials it's made out of is definitely not flimsy. The built in microphone is really great, so if you use Skype or something, the sound will be wonderful. The web cam quality pretty much sucks but that goes for most all built in web cams. Windows 7 is nice. The startup takes a bit but now extremely slow. I had to call their customer service because my old wireless router wasn't working. The customer service was very attentive and told me the problem, I was a little skeptical about their solution and tried it anyways. Now I have wireless internet for all my computers(the wireless router I had was too old). I personally like the design, although some people hate it. The sound is wonderful on this laptop. I'm not used to the number pad on the keyboard but it is convenient at times. The volume scroll is nice too. At first when I got it, I was worried because the laptop was extremely slow but after the initial day, it went faster than much of my computers. I'm still worried about overheating though(because my Toshiba laptop, notorious for overheating) but I haven't really heard of it being a problem for HP computers. Overall I'm liking this computer.
