Top tier laptop all around!

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Design, DisplayCons mentioned:FanFirst of all, to address previous reviews referencing the screen, sure, if you're sitting here staring a few inches away, you might barely be able to notice the mesh/grid pattern they speak of. Using the laptop in everyday circumstances, you're not even going to notice it, as it's something you literally have stare at the screen, to look for to find. The screen is beautiful, can be viewed just as well from any angle, even directly from the side the picture remains the same, as shown in one of the attached photos. There are 5 color profiles to choose from: Default - optimized for color vibrancy Web (sRGB) - optimized for web browsing Photo (Adobe RGB) - optimized for photo editing & viewing Movie (DCI-P3) - optimized for movie viewing & editing Native - no optimization applied Personally I typically stick with Movie, as that's the color profile utilized for digital film projection in the move industry, and it really makes movies look terrific. Being a 4K AMOLED screen, the blacks are true, and the colors are vibrant and rich. To address the fans and heat issues I've seen on here, in my experiences thus far, the laptop has remained cool, haven't had any crazy heat under the keyboard, though I just usually watch a lot of movies, with some web browsing. So others might be multitasking a lot, or using programs that eat up a lot of the CPU. The fans are hardly ever on, and yes when they do turn on, sometimes they can spool up a bit, though never what I'd deem as overly loud. You can select the fan profile in the HP Command Center, I leave it on the HP Recommended, though you can choose Performance, Quiet, or Comfort as well. Port wise, it is very limited, though I do appreciate it has a full size USB-A port, which did take me a minute to find, as it's somewhat hidden. It's on the left side, and at a glance looks like maybe a MicroSD slot, though if you push down on the bottom of the port, it opens up into the full size. The bottom stays flush with the laptop otherwise, when you're not using it. So that's kind of a cool feature to keep it hidden in a way. Has the charge port on the back right corner, it's a USB-C type, as show in the picture there. The cord from the power "brick" to the laptop is braided, which is great, so helps give the cord some durability. Besides that, has another USB-C port, MicroSD slot, and headphone jack. Also has a camera kill switch on the right side for privacy sake. Overall feel of the laptop is premium, haven't noticed any kind of flexing when opening the screen, feels very sturdy, and the hinges feel like they'll hold up for quite awhile. Keyboard feels good, responsive, albeit maybe slightly cramped though being a 13.3" laptop, I wouldn't have expected a full size anyways, so no worries there. Keyboard is backlit, with an adjustable brightness setting, located on the F5 key. All of the function keys by default do the action shown, you have to hold the actual FN key to do F1, F2 and so on, which seems pretty common these days on many laptops. Have only had this laptop a few days, though initial impressions are quite positive from me. I updated everything I could when I first started it, so maybe some of the screen issues folks mentioned were resolved in more recent updates, as I've not had any issues. System boots up quick of course with the SSD, and have not encountered any issues have multiple tabs open on Firefox, which we all know is a resource hog of a browser, even still. Battery life, I got about 6 hours from 100% to 26% before I plugged it in, and that was entirely streaming Netflix, with brightness at about 65%, no battery saving features enabled. The price dropped down to $1649.99 recently, so was finally able to pull the trigger on this, as I had been eyeing it for awhile, well worth the price, for the value it has. Also comes with a carrying sleeve, which it fits perfectly into, and has a little bit of cushion, though I still use a pouch as well for extra insulation.

A great device, though some odd design options.
Posted .Features
Quality5 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Pros mentioned:Design, Display, SpeedCons mentioned:Fan, HeatThis is an excellent laptop with some... interesting design choices. First is the fans: maybe it's just mine but even under a light load they have a whistling sound that is tough to describe. They're by far the most obnoxious fans I've heard on a laptop. The bottom of this laptop gets HOT... like 'don't keep this on your lap if you want kids' hot; even with only light to moderate usage on the balanced setting. Second is the SSD: This uses an Intel H10 NVMe SSD. It has 32GB of Optane + 1TB of QLC* storage. The storage is bifurcated at a PCIe level but treated as a single device at a software level. Where a normal NVMe SSD would have up to 4GB/s (~3.5GB/s) read and write, this only can get to about 1.9GB/s due to the fact that half of the bandwidth is dedicated to each device. There doesn't appear to be any SLC caching on this drive, either so once you exhaust the Optane memory cache the performance falls off a cliff. It will settle in around 350MB/s write after ~25GB written so if you often write large files from a high-speed source then you should consider the version without Optane which has a much faster SSD (for that specific purpose. There are advantages to the Optane version because day-to-day tasks are lightning-fast off Optane device and it's rare that I run into this issue. Third is most easily fixed by the end user: Out of the box the screen looks absolutely awful. Like 'how did anyone approve this' awful. For some reason mine shipped without HDR (high dynamic range) being enabled. To make sure yours has it enabled type 'HDR' into the search bar and choose 'Windows HD Color Settings' and enable HDR across all of the apps and desktop. Then after a second your screen will go from a red-heavy mess to looking like a very, very nice display (it might also explain the negative comments about the display itself because the 'diamond' pattern disappeared when I did this). (It also allows for HDR Netflix, and YouTube when using Chrome and HDR videos which look spectacular in 4K). (When you're in the HDR menu you can also change the SDR display. I bumped mine down by about 12 (50 ->38) to make everything a little whiter (cooler) as it's quite warm (yellowish) out of the box with HDR enabled. The included pen is not satisfying to use. It's springy and you have to push a certain level (~50%) to engage a 'click' on the screen and it can take multiple attempts to get it to register. This is a stark contrast to my Tab S4's S Pen and my Apple Pencil, both of which are solid while still allowing for both pressure sensitivity and accurate/consistent clicking/engagement. You can only get either the LTE (WWAN) -or- the 4K screen, which is strange (and Best Buy's pictures erroneously showing the SIM card for the LTE on the 4K model don't help the buying process... SKU 6376413 does NOT have the SIM slot displayed in picture 4.) So that's the... I suppose you could say bad? decisions (minus the fans which are objectively bad). What about the good? The keyboard is excellent, as is the Precision trackpad. (Person tip: change the tracking speed from 4 to 5 and change the 3-finger gesture from minimize/maximize all apps to adjusting the volume). The speakers are quite good and miles better than my old Yoga 910. The build quality is superb. The screen (after enabling HDR) is spectacular. The fingerprint reader works every time (no camera-based Windows Hello, which is fine because it allows for slimmer bezels). The screen is nicely weighted on the laptop (my Yoga 910 had the heavy 4K screen at the very top of the display which made it prone to tipping over on your lap and the hinge move when touching the screen). The MicroSD card reader clocks in at at least 100MB/s read and write (the fastest my cards will go). This has basically my ideal selection of ports: 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports, a USB A Port, headphone jack, and MicroSD card reader). My USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gb/s) SSD clocks in at a full ~800MBps when using USB-C and ~450 MBps when using the USB-A port. This device uses the latest, and extremely fast, Intel CPUs with Intel Iris Pro graphics (basically the best of the best for laptops without dedicated graphics for the moment). There is moderate bloatware on this. It's mainly McAfee, ExpressVPN, HotSpot Shield VPN (2 VPNS?..), LastPass, and Dropbox. Maybe 3 minutes it took to remove everything but LastPass (which isn't immediately obvious how to remove, it's not listed anywhere that I can see). It would be much better if Lastpass had an easy uninstall option. *QLC stands for Quad-Level Cell. From fastest to slowest it goes: S(ingle) level cell M(ulti) level cell T(ri/triple) level cell, and finally QLC which is the slowest SSD flash storage right now. These are collectively named, SLC, MLC, TLC, QLC. Generally QLC drives contain an amount of SLC (fast) cache to lessen the effects of its slowness. This drive contains only Optane cache which is very small but very fast (arguably faster than SLC).

My 2nd Spectre x360-Love Them!
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I bought this item as a replacement to an x360 that was 5 years old. The old one still worked. Just wanted to upgrade. Passed my old one down to my niece who is starting her 2nd year of college. This item is just like my old one but a few new things that are great and one thing so far that I don't like about it. First the new, the laptop itself is smaller than my old x360 by about an inch, I think it's the smaller bevel around the screen. Second, the display is OLED and my old one was not so I find the color and clarity of the images on the screen to be very crisp and clear. Third, the battery life on HP laptops is phenomenal, I never worry about running out of power. Now for the new but not so good, the backlit keyboard only stays on for 30 seconds and when the keys are not being used, the keyboard lights go off. I find this to be very annoying. I work in the dark most of the time and this is the reason I need a backlit keyboard. So this has been my one and only annoyance about my new computer. Maybe HP will correct this in an update as I've seen lots of complaining about it online, I guess I'm not the only one that believes a backlit keyboard should stay on until I choose to turn it off. Overall, still very happy with my new purchase and would recommend to anyone looking for a great laptop.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I've been a HP Spectre x360 Owner for many years now. They are Small; Beautiful; Fast; 2-in-1; Made Extremely Well; Etc. At the time (5 years ago(?)) - They were Rated the Highest in their category by Consumer Report - And they still are Currently Rated the Best - With Dell being the closet and possibly better by a slight margin. However - I am not Dell Buyer - And I'm Kind of a "Only the Buy The Best" - Snob. So when I saw this model - With the OLED Screen (to match my new OLED TV) - And Tapered Corners - And (1) TB SSD; Etc. - And IT IS JUST BEAUTIFUL - And On Sale for $1,499.00 - Well That Just Pushed me over the edge. For Now - I'm running Parallel Spectre's - My (5) Year Old and This One - Just for Smooth Transition Purposes. I could not be more Pleased with my NEW HP-Spectre x360! The OLED Screen is Amazingly Beautiful too. If this is in your Budget - Just get it - And Thank me Later ...

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5This 2-in-1 laptop has it all. The quality of construction is very good, and I especially like the smooth hinges. The size of the screen is perfect, and the laptop is very light and easy to carry around. Memory size and operation speed is excellent and quiet. The main reason that I purchased this model was the fantastic 4K OLED Ultra HD Touch-Screen. It is awesome and definitely the best that I've every seen. If I needed another laptop or bought one as a gift, this would definitely be my choice. Great job HP!

Q: QuestionIs Intel Iris Plus integrated GPU in this laptop good enough to manage lightroom and photoshop projects smoothly ( including mutliple filters in PS & LR) , specially when it is a OLED display ?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yea sir. I’m a photographer myself and it’s been super smooth for me. Just slide the battery bar to performance before u begin. Also if u feel like it, leave it plugged in to multitask heavily and that includes having iTunes or Spotify playing while transferring files from LR to PR while editing.

Q: QuestionCould one upgrade SSD drive with Samsung PM981 512 GB (MZVLB512HAJQ) on this machine post-purchase? If yes, are the warranty benefits void after upgrade?
Asked by Andi.
- A:Answer Yes you can use that model of SSD (any NVMe SSD) with this laptop. Regarding warranty: HP cannot legally invalidate your warranty -just- for opening it. If you damage something when upgrading your warranty may be voided if HP can prove you caused the damage. You do, however have to remove the back rubber pad to expose screws which makes it much more likely to fall out unless you go out of your way to get the right adhesive. (I would also ask why you would "upgrade" to that SSD which would be a... side-grade from the Intel H10 that comes with it unless you write a ton of stuff to it consistently. [At which point I'd ask why you are buying a light-duty ultrabook]).

Q: QuestionIs the nvme ssd hard drive in this system upgradable or is it solder to the motherboard. Also is max configeration 16gb of ram or can it be configured to 32gb on the hp website?
Asked by IamTwone.
- A:Answer The included 1TB Intel H10 Optane/hybird drive can be upgraded to say, Samsung 970 or WD Black. Probably voids the warranty. The RAM is soldered on. The laptop does get rather hot towards the back (especially in tablet mode) so be careful as to what SSD to choose.

- A:Answer According to Best Buy's inventory system, this laptop is due to be in stock on October 27, 2019. I would advise checking the website on that date or contacting your local store for accurate inventory information.
