Powerful, Portable! Great Laptop for Students
||Posted .I was reluctant to replace my old dinosaur of a laptop (5 years old now, It happens to be an HP Envy 14 (2011), and it's still running beautifully, but it's too heavy to carry in my backpack everyday). As a full-time software engineering student, I need a computer with me at all times... I was shopping for a REALLY LONG TIME because I wanted to find the perfect replacement. I finally ended up on this model. Just to give some context, here are the other models on my candidates list: Macbook Pro Retina 13" Lenovo Yoga 900 Dell XPS 13 Asus Q series 13" Now, here's why I chose the HP Spectre x360 over them: 1. ALL THE CONVENIENCE FEATURES!! (x) Touch screen (x) 360 degree hinge (x) Backlit keyboard with an activation key that's ALWAYS LIT!!! (My old laptop had pretty much the exact same keyboard, but if it was dark, I had to search for the key that turned on the keyboard lights) (x) Lightweight (x) comes with its own sleeve in the box 2. The Brand: HP and Dell are the highest selling consumer PC manufacturers, so its more than likely you've already heard a horror story warning you to stay away from them! Not to worry! HP and Dell make computers that most consumers will enjoy. Namely, they make 'affordable' computers, and A LOT of them. HP and Dell are really good at making good computers, but if they can make more money cutting corners and making a junk computer that breaks often, they will. With high end computers like the Spectre or the others on my list, you don't have to worry about that as much because their main focus isn't making a computer as cheap as possible, but it is to make a computer that someone who has a higher computer budget would want to buy. Whenever my friends ask me for computer advice, I always say, "you get what you pay for." My last laptop was an HP, so I trust them a little more (subjective, I know). 3. Customization This computer happens to have a traditional BIOS that allows me to utilize fastboot for Windows 10, or traditional boot for whatever else I need to use on it. Right now I have Ubuntu and Windows 10 running. HP makes it very easy to enter system diagnostics and Boot Options, which, for me is essential. NOTE: even though I say that this laptop is easy to customize, that doesn't mean it's not easy to use. In fact it's the least nonsense 2-in-1 laptop available. Everything is there for you. Nothing more, nothing less, no gimmicks. Here are some tips if you're still unsure about what you want to get: 1. LOOK FOR METAL - as a rule of thumb, metal indicates that the manufacturer 'believes' in their product. Here's what I mean: take a look at all of the MacBooks that are available now: Apple puts a lot of work into their computers, and they want to house their workmanship in something durable. All Macbooks have a metal body. If a company is cutting corners on the inside, they will DEFINITELY cut corners on the outside. Plastic body computers will also flex whenever you pick them up. However small that motion is, it's wearing away at the components on the inside. So go for metal. 2. Talk to a blue-shirt (or even a Geek Squad agent if you can) - They know what sells well, and more importantly, what gets returned... 3. A computer is an investment. You get what you pay for. Feel free to reply to this review if you have any specific questions about the computer :) Hope this helped!!

Excellent Convertible Ultrabook
Posted .The first thing you need to decide is if you really want a hybrid computer verses a standard (old school) laptop. If you want a hybrid then you have to decide if you want a pure 2-in-1 or a convertible like the x360. I own a Surface Pro 3 (keeping it) and now the HP Spectre x360. I know HP and BB call the x360 a 2-in-1 but there has to be a distinction between a fold-back and a detachable keyboard. The best part of the convertible x360 is it can sit on your lap just like a standard laptop. Not so easy to do with the Surface Pro. On the other hand the Surface Pro truly turns into a tablet when you detach the keyboard. Happy to have both available to me. But I have no problem using the x360 in tablet mode although it is a bit more difficult to handle than the Surface Pro. Pros of the x360: This model (13-4193dx) is very fast. Excellent touch screen (2560 x 1440). And the keyboard layout was perfect for me. Battery life is the best I have seen in an ultrabook. Cons: Power button is on the side, very small and took me a few days to get used to where it is located.

I wanted to keep it.
||Posted .I wanted to keep this laptop. The first thing as others I got a different model in the box than was on the outside of the box. I was told by HP that it had the same specs. I tried it and after getting my warranty fixed with HP, it workd great. It is very good looking laptop. The screen is great. Some have said the sound is not great but my was very great. I had decided to keep it but then it started getting very hot on the bottom. It was so hot that it made my leg red. HP wanted me to send to them and they would fix., but I was within my time to take back, so I did. I will say best buy didn't even try to trade it out or get me into another one. I wish it wouldn't have gotten hot. HP did say that there was something wrong with my laptop. It was very nice laptop and the battery on it lasted great. There are new models out and I think they should be good. Run virus protection on it and if it gets very hot, take it back. Hope this helps.

Overall, I like it
||Posted .I like this laptop. It seems fast and has all the extra features I wanted. It can handle being used almost continually. The only problem is that sometimes I have trouble with the display drivers when I take Windows updates. When I used HP support by phone, they were good. But I tried HP support by chat, and it was a complete disaster both times. They didn't solve my problem but rather created even more problems. Plus it was very time consuming. The second time it took hours for us to do almost nothing. I think the chat people are less qualified than the phone reps. I would never use HP support by chat ever again.

Absolutely Awesome
Posted .My unit arrived 5/18. The part number N5S10UA#ABA is on the box. It shows up as that and (series number) 13-4194dx on the paperwork. On the back of the unit it has, in very fine print, 13-4193dx and N5S04UA#ABA which is the Ash Silver version (go figure??). They have identical specs – except for the color. I talked to BestBuy. They offered to exchange it. I said I would keep it. We corrected the paperwork for Warranty reasons. I verified the specs after arrival. It is as advertised! I studied all Laptops for 2 months (with a $1K budget). Wanted an i7 (2.5GHz) for speed – most web sites include video which slowed down my old Netbook. Wanted a SSD (bump-proof – (no moving parts) and faster). Wanted a 512 HD but too much $$. I have a 128GB thumb drive (for $35) for any future requirements. (This has 256GB). Without video, I only used 100GB on the old machine anyway. Really glad I got the QHD screen (almost) breathtaking. Wanted a keyboard – less effort than “touch”. My wife will be quick to confirm – “Yes, he is that lazy”! But, I can lay on my side on the couch, rotate and lock the screen, fold and go to full tablet mode. Appearance – well a black case is totally functional, but the silver is one of those slightly selfish “I do deserve this” moments! After I had done some research on BestBuy and ALL other websites (HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer etc.), I went to Best Buy (40 miles away) to actually look. Did more research, comparison – watched the fleeting “sales” and waited. This showed up for $999, verified the specs and did it. Thank you BestBuy – you have a store (but I bought from you online). And yes, really comparable units sell for $1,250 up! Jack Pittsfield, MA

Awesome Laptop/tablet
Posted .OKAY Cons first...the only negative thing so far is that the tablet position is a bit awkward..if holding it in your hands, if you have it on your lap or on a desk it is very easy to use and I love the pen. I had a Lenovo 2 in 1 removable tablet...this was a replacement...It is solid.. battery life is excellent...screen and speakers are awesome...easy to use and operate. I can say this is my favorite laptop ever.It is so slim and efficient. And for the price it is a no brainer...I looked into this model extensively before purchasing it and is was worth it.

My First Ultrabook laptop
||Posted .I've been using this laptop for about 7 months now. I writing this review on it. I like the updates on the newer models, but this is working great for me. Beautiful display, excellent keyboard, good trackpad (I'm not a fan of trackpads anyway). I use it laptop mode about 98% of the time, the other 2% is between tablet and tent. I love being able to use it in tent mode as an extra TV on the kitchen counter or to watch a YouTube video of a new recipe.

Excellent product
Posted .Bought this x360 model based on the deal of the day price. I had looked at a slightly different model of the x360 in a few stores. Also had the Lenovo Yoga 900 and the MS Surface Pro 4 on my list. After trying all three I was leaning towards the Lenovo but even when the price dropped 150 it seemed a little rich for me. Then I get a message that this x360 had a one day price of 899 plus by coincidence I had 15 BB certificate expiring so I decided to go for it. Have had it almost three weeks and I have noting but praise. Would have liked a 4K screen but there is nothing I have viewed that I would complain about. The Surface Pro has a distinctly better tablet function but at the price you pay and the sacrifice of a traditional keyboard I would say save the money and get a better "laptop" function and equally good performance.

Q: Questionwhat's the advantage of the mSATA SSD?This model has the mSATA SSD, the other similar HP Spectre's don't. What's the advantage over the "regular" SSD?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Great question. Like a memory stick, there are no moving parts to an SSD. Rather, information is stored in microchips. Conversely, a hard disk drive uses a mechanical arm with a read/write head to move around and read information from the right location on a storage platter. This difference is what makes SSD so much faster. mSATA just means that it is for a mobile device. SATA is for desktops. All Spectre laptops that have an SSD are mSATA. Some of the models specify that information and others don't. I hope this helps.

Q: QuestionWould the 256 GB hard drive be too little memory for an average College student?
Asked by Brady.
- A:Answer Depends on your major. If you're in computer science or graphics, probably not. I had a 256 hard drive all throughout college as a chem major writing reports all the time; I burnt through about half.
