A Really Nice Laptop!
Posted .I was looking to replace my 2010 MacBook Pro 17" w/1st Generation Quad-Core i7. That computer has been the best I have ever owned in the 30+ years I have been using personal computers! It still rocks for everything but gaming even today! I think I've got some good perspective because I go back to the days of the original IBM PC but that is another discussion. In 2015, I bought my son a 13" Spectre x360 w/Core i5. I was very impressed with it. Good performance, long battery life, good set of ports, etc. So now it was my turn. The "little" laptops are too small for me. I like the bigger displays and I don't need to slip it in my backup so this model caught my interest when I saw it announced at CES this year. I pre-ordered it and received the computer today! Here's my initial impressions: a beautiful design and light @4 1/2 lbs when compared to my 17" MacBook Pro! The reviewers who say it is heavy need a little perspective .. haa haa! The screen is great with native 4K resolution. There is no problem having enough real estate to arrange multiple apps and windows without "losing" them if you know what I mean. Sure Windows has some nice tricks to arrange things but that can get annoying. More than snappy enough for using Adobe Lightroom CC to manage and adjust my photos, run browser, e-mail, Outlook, PowerPoint, and the other Office apps. My best point of reference will be using Handbrake on it which is something I used on my Quad-Core MacBook Pro all the time. Handbrake will use every CPU cycle your processor has to offer so I'm anxious to do a little comparison on timing between the two. I haven't had a chance yet but will update here if the site allows me. The touch screen is nice and the main reason I decided to go to Windows PC because Apple isn't offering that yet on their laptops. I don't see the "tablet thing" getting much use in my case but maybe I will be surprised. Price was also attractive as a new top-end MacBook Pro is an least $1K more. I decided to give the lower performance but better price PC a try. So far, I'm happy with my choice :)

Amazing laptop great performance
|Posted .I bought this laptop a month and a half ago, but it was yesterday when I first had the opportunity to use it for the first time. The first impression: Visually looks much better than in photos. The black onyx color along with the golden edges give the appearance of a premium and luxury PC. The SSD is really fast (Attached a crystalDiskMark test results). Windows restarts in less than 22 seconds and with the Windows 10 fast startup enabled, the system becomes operational (after pressing the power button) in less than 10 seconds. The fans don't work all the time, only when it is necessary, thus giving a quiet environment while working. I expected speakers Bang & Olufsen to have a higher level of sound at full volume compared to my 4 year old Vaio (vpcf-236fmb model that has a good sound), however that does not mean a problem. Overall performance is very good, the 4k display and vivid colors give a nice experience. The USB type C and thunderbolt ports give a great value, they worked properly when I plugged two external disks through a Type C to USB 3.0 Port, with good data transfer speeds between the 2 disks. Also noticed that when it is not plugged-in and using only battery power, the performance does not decrease significantly, the system does not slow down either, but of course maybe that would not be the case when playing games (I have not tested games yet), however common tasks like photo editing, programing, working with word or excel files, watching videos or listening to music are fluid while using the battery. I have not tested the battery life yet, but based on previous reviews, I consider that the average usage time of 6 to 9 hours is a plus and very useful when traveling or working outside, you can easily conclude a labor day. And if it was not enough, fast charging: 50% in less than 30 minutes is great. I still need to continue testing (today is the first day), but so far, I consider to have done the necessary tests to conclude that this Spectre X-360 is a powerful laptop and definitely it is worth the money.

Problems with both
|Posted .I bought the Spectre x360 model number: 15-BL012DX and had to return the first one to Best Buy the next day because the touch pad would intermittently stop responding. I figured, this must have been a lemon and exchanged it for another at Best Buy hassle free! Thank you Best Buy. When trying to turn the computer on the power button caved it. I've included a picture. I'm really put out with HP's quality it this $1500 laptop and wish I had gotten something else after the first one gave me issues.

Perfect for an ultra book.
|Posted .Amazing product. Hasn't disappointed me with its performance so far. The only setbacks I see are the weight of the laptop and the volume. It's a little to heavy for my liking and the volume is a little on the lower side. Also, I had to buy a multi USB port drive since it only has a slot for one.

Q: QuestionI am waiting for this, what is the estimated date when you will have them for sale? HP - Spectre x360 2-in-1 15.6" 4K Ultra HD Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 (7TH GENERATION) - 16GB Memory - 512GB Solid State Drive Model: 15-BL012DXSKU: 5712363
Asked by Shadowman.
- A:Answer This site says availability is expected to begin on Feb 26. That'll probably coincide close to when Best Buy gets stock of it, though I don't know precisely. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3154010/computers/hps-2017-15-inch-spectre-x360-features-two-surprising-changes.html However, be aware that the '4K' display last year's HP Spectre x360 15 was fake, and it's possible this model also uses a fake 4K display. The display HP used in the 2016 HP Spectre x360 15 used the RG/BW Pentile matrix to cheat the ability to advertise the 4K UHD 3840x2160 resolution, without actually providing the full detail of the resolution. These false 4K displays actually look worse than "lower resolution" (3K 2880x1620, QHD+ 3200x1800, etc.) displays, all while unnecessarily stressing the graphics card to render a full 3840x2160 picture. https://www.reddit.com/r/Hewlett_Packard/comments/5lvjva/psa_dont_preorder_the_2017_spectre_x360_15_4k/ I would advise waiting until reviews for this model come in, confirming the display to be true 4K. Don't buy until you know that. If you don't want to wait that long, the Lenovo Yoga 710 is known to use a 100% honest true 4K display. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-2-in-1-15-6-4k-ultra-hd-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-940mx-256gb-ssd-pearl-black/5579132.p?skuId=5579132 (you won't notice a difference between the i5-7200U and i7-7500U processors since both are dual-core CPUs within a few percentage points of each other -- they're just branded with different numbers that make them sound like there's more of a difference, and you can always buy your own 512GB SSD to replace the 256GB one with, for less than the price difference between these two laptops.)

Q: Questionthe best buy product is 15-bl012dx whereas the unit with the "same" specs on the hp site is 15-bl075nr. is there any difference and why the different model numbers?
Asked by mhf1.
- A:Answer Best Buy gets HP laptops with specific model numbers that other manufacturers don't get. Same with Dell laptops. I'm not certain why they do it, but I suspect it is so you can't comparison shop. Most retailers offer a price match guarantee on the same product, but since nobody sells the same HP or Dell product that Best Buy does, and vice-versa, nobody has to honor any price match guarantees. Manufacturers do it with mattresses too. A Certa at Sams Club is not going to be the same model number as the EXACT SAME MATTRESS at Costco, or a furniture store. Every retailer gets their own model numbers.

Q: QuestionIs there a slot to put the stylus pen in so it won't get lost?

Q: QuestionI am indecisive b/w this and its 13 inch version. It's the first time I will be getting a 2 in 1 and am excited about tablet mode experience. But at the same time weight and size of this 15 inch machine is bothering me. Should I opt for it or not ?
Asked by RDaniels.
- A:Answer The 15 inch Spectre X360 is (a bit) heavier than the 13, but the additional screen size is a plus when working on artwork/viewgraphs/decks etc. What surprised me was, that, the Adobe PS software had almost microscopic sized text/tools when viewed in the high resolution display of the Spectre X360 15 inch. I did not see this in other software that used the pen. The color and usable viewing angle of the display is remarkably good. The 15 has more I/O ports than the 13 and also a SD card slot which helps if you are working on photos from your digital camera. There is a Nvidia internal GPU card that is CUDA compatible so you could (theoretically) run deep learning algorithms on it (tensor flow etc.). Sound is good from internal speakers, with enough volume to enjoy YouTube University e-learning or just video. I enjoy running/viewing dreamscopeapp.com with the color fidelity. Let me know what you think if you get one. Ajax

Q: QuestionNot a laptop expert, so is this model pretty much a bigger version of the 13in one (HP - Spectre x360 2-in-1 13.3" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB Solid State Drive)?
Asked by RiceFlower.
- A:Answer Yes, it is the bigger option of that same computer. However there is 1 difference and 3 extra features. The 1 difference is this comes in a different color. It's like a very dark aluminum brown (looks dark grey from a distance) with copper trim. The 3 extra features is it has a stylus pen, a 4K display, and an Nvidia graphics card. So the extra couple hundred gets you those 3 extra features and a bigger size. It's worth it if you want to play some moderate gaming or do video editing or photo editing. Ifyou don't plan on doing any of those 3 then go for the smaller version.

Q: QuestionIs the graphics card going to be up gradable to the 10 series Nvidea graphics ?
Asked by Angela.
- A:Answer No, this laptop comes only with NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics.
Answered by CommunityAnswer
Q: QuestionDoes this laptop have an extra internal hard drive slot to add a platter drive for extra storage? Is the included SSD a standard SATA or is it an M.2?
Asked by Deuce.
- A:Answer Nope - no extra room for a 2nd internal storage drive. This specific machine comes with a Samsung PM961 Polaris 512GB M.2 NGFF PCIe Gen3 x4, NVME Solid state drive SSD, OEM (2280) (MZVLW512HMJP-00000). If you go to the HP website you can configure the HP Spectre x360 with a 1TB M.2 PCle SSD. And the external SD card reader slot can accept any capacity SD card but don't be fooled by cheap versions of SD card vendors - stick with name brands and do your research.

Q: QuestionCan you write on a PDF document or an attachment with the stylus?
Asked by Chimmy.
- A:Answer I don't own this computer, but I can confirm that you can effectively mark up a PDF document using any Windows 10 PC that supports a digital pen. This would include, of course, the latest HP Spectre x360 15-inch (and 13-inch) models. On my Surface Pro 3, I use the Drawboard PDF viewing app ($6) for this function. But you can also use lots of other apps for inking (fancy word for using a PC and digital pen as if they were a "real" pad of paper and pen), including the EDGE browser built into Windows 10. This capability is one of the most important reasons I would buy a 2-in-1 PC today instead of a traditional laptop.
