Best Phone I've Ever Owned
Posted .It took me three weeks to get this phone from Best Buy themselves, adding to that frustration was the fact that my previous phone, a pocket PC, decided to meet it's untimely death via a drop so I was without a phone during the entire time. Was so relieved the day I was called and told that my phone came in. As soon as I arrived and the phone was set up, it immediately delivered all my texts, voicemails, etc. that I had missed. And not only that, I tinkered with it and was immediately blown away. I knew I wanted this phone for a good reason, it isn't just a phone, it's the truest form of a pocket PC I've ever owned. Mine came pre-installed with Android 2.2 aka Froyo. Call quality is good across the board, I could hear everything just fine and dandy, and my friends and family have yet to have a complaint themselves. Even in areas with just one or two bars of reception I can still get a good quality call in. That says miles about this badboy for sure. The thing is lightning quick, loading apps in virtually no time flat. Performs smoothly as well, am able to check sports scores, take notes, update Facebook, make calls, etc. without a single hitch or hiccup. Only small nitpicks are the fact that some apps do not uninstall after you drag them down to "Remove" and refuse to uninstall themselves for some odd reason, also that the phone did not come with a note-taking application, but I downloaded one in seconds and it installed just as quickly too. So no harm, no foul in that regard, if anything it's a positive because it goes to show that this phone is truly customizable, it is truly what you make of it. Just be careful on which apps you choose and you'll be fine. The 8 megapixel camera included with this phone is phenominal, I knew it was going to be considering I gave my old digicam to a friend of mine a while back, the auto-focus allows me to get a truly clear picture of things, and the zooming and everything included does the job and does it very very well. It also doubles as a video camera too meaning you can capture and record video on the fly. Pictures came out clear as crystal, and the fact that I can do landscape and portrait views (meaning horizontal and vertical) literally on the fly. Wow is all I got to say to that! I'm even including a couple pictures of my dad's pontoon boat as examples of how clear the picture quality really is. Trust me when I say it, it's mindblowing. Google Maps is also installed on this phone, along with Sprint Navigation, so you have two choices for GPS instead of one, both work great either way though, and allow this thing to replace any GPS you own just about. Google Maps with Navigation simply owns though, especially with the satellite viewing which allows you to get a bird's eye view of the actual location you're visiting, as well as satellite views of the road you're on, simply great stuff right here. I'm still learning the amount of stuff you can do with this thing, it truly is scalable to your desires. Compared to any other phone I have ever had in my life, and hell, even compared to the iPhone, this thing trumps it all! I really could not ask for more, am quite glad I was eligible for the full upgrade from Sprint thanks to being a Premier member, and of course my old phone dying on me gave me the ultimate excuse. Of course I got smart and put a protective case as well as a screen protector on the thing. **LOL** If you're considering switching to Sprint, or you're considering upgrading to a phone with all the bells and whistles, I'd recommend the EVO in a heartbeat. Simply put, this phone rocks the house! And a hot tip? Go to Best Buy if you want to get this phone, they don't do mail-in rebates, meaning the price marked is the price that you pay. Thanks to this, I saved 100 bucks and didn't have to go through a painstaking process with any sort of mail-in rebate. Well worth it for this incredible phone that has but a couple of small nitpicks.

5/5 , with some reservations
Posted .I left the company in red (the one with the cheesy television commercials) because my upgrade date was too far off and we were both using the Palm Pre Plus which we hated. The first thing I will address with the Evo is the battery issue. I don't see where this is even an issue. The battery on the Evo, given it's capabilities and screen size, is absolutely 100 percent acceptable to me. Some people just do not understand how much juice a phone such as this requires. Just keep it charged and buy a car charger and one for the office and you're fine. Phone calls on Evo are very clear, even inside my home which is saying a lot. That was going to be a deal-breaker for my gf and I as we do not have a land line phone. The phone option is very accessible, as there is a large button that says "phone" on the home screen. Texting is another story. For the first couple of days, I hated texting on this phone because I was used to having a physical keyboard. I kept typing the wrong letter, and then had to go back to correct it. There is an auto-correct feature that helps as you’re typing, but you can also disable all of that (which I did). The internet browser and processor are awesome. They work great together, and are very fast (almost as fast as my cable modem at home). The camera is absolutely amazing, and takes great pictures. I have never been a big user of cell phone cameras, but this phone takes great pictures. I don’t think I’ve used my digital point & shoot since I got this phone. I have not used the camcorder yet, but I am sure that I will be equally impressed. The Sprint Navigation is also a great feature. I’ve used it twice and it worked flawlessly both times. The phone has a total of seven home screens, all of which you can navigate through by swiping the screen left and right. Each screen will display 16 widgets, so technically you can have up to 112 quick-launch icons of your choosing. The phone comes with various apps/widgets pre-loaded onto the various home screens, but you can delete any or all of them as you wish. I deleted most of the ones that were pre-loaded. There is so much to this phone that I cannot cover all of it. With that said, that does not mean that it will only be user-friendly to the more tech-savy bunch. Within a week or two, most people could figure this phone out. The only negative thing that I can think of that I do not like about this phone is that it sometimes will not link to my Bluetooth ear piece on the first try, and I have to keep opening and closing the ear piece to get it to link (not good if you’re driving). Other than that, I say go for it. My rationale for getting this phone is, if you’re going to pay for a data package on a cell phone, you may as well have the biggest and beefiest phone that is out. Otherwise, you’re just wasting your money

Greatest mobile in USA
Posted .The EVO is by far the Best Buy (ironic isn't it) on mobile devices in the USA. I am a technology professional. Being a web and applications developer, I must say, I am impressed. From and end user point of view, the Evo is by far, the best phone in the USA market today. It's user interface (with or without HTC's Sense) is the easiest one to use. The bigger screen makes an important difference in this area. However, the screen is not so big to consider it too big for a mobile device, it's just perfect. I am very realistic when I compare devices, and I was actually hoping to like the iPhone more and find an excuse to buy it. But I am so glad I copared both phones side by side, and the Evo beats the cr@p out of the iPhone in every area. So sad I won't get an iPhone, but glad I got the better device. Now, from a developer's point of view, the Evo is just light years ahead of anything else out there. Only other Android devices can come close. But so far, none can touch it. If I was to say every advantage from a developer's point of view here, I would need my own blog in this site, just to make my point. Now (07/09/2010) there are software enhancements that any regular Joe can add to the Evo for free even though it still runs on the 2.1 Android, like Flash player. Out of the box, the Evo has Flaslite 4, but now, people can install the full blown Flash player v.10.1 and the Evo turns into an all Internet access where it can display ANY Flash animation, game, application on the Internet. Did you know that more than 80% of today's web sites have at least an element of Flash content on their site? You can't see any of it without the full Flash player, and now, the Evo has it available. Oh, yeah, I a mobile enthusiast/professional. I have worked on many mobile oriented worldwide project, so I feel like I kind'a know what I am talking about. I hope that if you, reading this review, don't have one, get an EVO as soon as you can, and experience it for yourself. Phone is flying in Miami, I can't wait for WiMax (4G) to be active in Florida. That with take the Evo to a hole new level.

Fantastic!
Posted .I love everything about this phone! Except the terrible battery life, but it's not as bad once you download the task killer. There is also a battery that seems to last a day and a half w/heavy usage for about $80 if you want to spend the extra dough. I am thinking about investing in it. There are so many features and ways to customize your phone to make it more of your taste. Iphone 4 has nothing on this phone, except the slight higher resolution screen, but not like that makes a difference since the screens aren't that big anyways. I've had previous androids and have spent quite a great deal of time w/the iphone and I must say Evo is a wonderful investment. I can see myself keeping this phone for the next 2 years at least! I don't have a screen protector, but I dont think I need one since my phone has been doing fine w/o it for the last month or so. I do have a plastic/silicon hybrid outer shell for it. 4G would be great if there were more areas that had it available. Living in the Los Angeles area, I have yet seen too many places where available. Overall, great phone! Not pocket sized-at least not for a girl's pocket, but that's what a purse if for :) Pictures are pretty good for a cell phone camera.

Awesome phone
Posted .I usually don't write reviews for anything, but I felt compelled to for this device. I've had the phone for about 3 months now and since the phone hasn't broken or become irritating, my initial thoughts still stand. First, the bad. From what you've most likely read, the battery life is at best, mediocre. If you use this phone, you have to change your habits when it comes to charging. If you're like me, this hasn't been very hard: plug the phone in at my desk at work, then plug it in again at night before I go to sleep. If I miss either of these charges, the phone will be dead. It becomes tricky when I'm out on the weekends and if I know I'm going to be away from a charger: I might just turn the phone off until I need to use it. Second: 4g is pointless. I have wi-fi all over my house and my office, so I will turn on wi-fi if I'm trying to download something heavy or watch youtube videos, but for normal browsing, 3g works fine. I live in the heart of Atlanta and can only get 1 bar of 4g and it takes a while to log on to the service anyway. Also, it's probably a hard on the battery. The GOOD: GUI: User interface is incredibly easy to get used to. I used a blackberry for years, and this phone is much more user friendly. SIZE: I was a bit worried about the huge size of the phone, because I carry my phone in my pocket most of the time. This was not an issue at all because the phone is so thin. If it were thicker, I would be very annoyed because it would uncomfortable to carry. I can hardly tell it's in my pocket because it's so thin. SCREEN: The screen is gorgeous: it looks like a mini-hd TV. I love it. Videos, photos, games, internet browsing, and the interface look fantastic. SPEED: completely blew out my expectations. I was used to using a RIM, mind you, and this phone carries out almost any operation with the speed I would expect from a laptop. The phone has only glitched a couple of times in 3 months of use which I am very impressed with. I think I restarted it once after I installed an app because it was screwing up. Other than that, flawless. APPS: I only have a few apps that I regularly use, but there is an app for everything it seems like. I do read the reviews before I get an app from the android market (which is very easy to use) because it sounds like a lot of apps can mess up your phone. I mostly use the facebook and gmail apps which are awesome. I hardly login to gmail or facebook on a normal computer anymore. I also use an app called Pulse which is a visual RSS feed program: I now get all my news from all my favorite sources in one spot. Googlemaps is also fantastic- I've only used the navigation once, and it seemed to work fine. It is kind of clunky using the navigation while driving and not dying. Probably need a car attachment to use properly. TOUCH: OK, this was a big fear of mine- switching to a touchscreen. I'm still not 100% on my speed of use when using a touch screen- I could type nearly as fast I can on a laptop on my blackberry, and that is certainly not the case on the EVO. The default typing app is OK, but I'm a thumb-typer and that typing style and a touch screen are not compatible. To counter this problem, I downloaded ShapeWriter which is a "swype"-style keyboard. It's different and increases my speed from the default app, but it's not a 100% replacement for having actual keys. I like to type words that may not exist or are too offensive to be in the default dictionary, so it's been an adjustment. I can live with ShapeWriter, but I miss actual keys for typing emails or long SMS. Camera: I don't take too many photos, but I have taken a few with this thing and it seems ok. I will say that the flash seems overly-bright for dark shots indoors. For some shots with the flash, it completely whites-out the photo and I have to turn off the flash all together and settle for a dim shot. I'm guessing there's a fix for this, but I haven't cared enough to figure it out. The dual-cam has been useful only a few times when taking a shot and not having someone to hold the camera for me. Photo-enthusiasts would probably be more excited about that feature. KICKSTAND: This seems really gimmicky, but in reality, I use this thing about 100x more than I thought I would. If I'm reading the news and eating lunch, problem solved: I can do both. Watching videos, reading, I use this thing all the time. The kickstand it metal, too and seems like it would difficult to break. SOUND: Bleh. The speakers are not very good, but for a phone I think they are fine. It's irritating that the speaker is on the back of the phone, so you have to turn it up extra loud to hear a video while you are watching it. I don't use the speaker enough to justify carrying headphones with me: but if I did, I would just use headphones. I have put some music onto this phone and began using the music player on the phone in my car in place of carrying my iPOD. The sound quality is fine and it doesn't seem to drain the battery like on-line use does. The only thing that's preventing me from using the EVO entirely in place of iPOD is that the capacity is lower. The phone came with an 8bg card, and I have over 90gb of music on the iPOD. Do I need that much? No. It is nice to have all my music in one place? Yes. I may upgrade to a 32gb card one day and consider scaling back the collection of music I require in my pocket. Maybe. PHONE/Sprint: It's a phone. Works fine. Never dropped a call. I expect perfection when it comes to my network, and so far Sprint in Atlanta works 100%. Bottom line: This phone has changed the way I browse the web and how I access information and communicate. It is has replaced my laptop in many respects. The phone is totally awesome.

Best Phone
Posted .I have been using HTC EVO for past 12 Days. HTC EVO 4G is the best phone among all phones available in the US market now. There are many reasons why one should opt for HTC EVO instead of iPhone, HTC Incredible, Motorola Droid X etc. The reasons are both phone based and network based. Utimately a great phone and a great network make the "Best Phone". HTC EVO and Sprint score together to make EVO THE phone to have. As a phone HTC EVO is definetly better than HTC Incredible and iPhone. As a network Sprint is way better than AT&T and is equal to Verizon if you are in and around Cincinnati, OH (network coverage varies from area to area, so pls dont take my word for it). Getting to the plans which each carrier offers into the argument makes Sprint score by leaps and bounds. AT&T with its data cap's was revolting for me (I just dont want to think always before I go to youtube and AT&T 2GB plan means I can just go to youtube for 18mins per day). Verizon with its soft data cap of 5GB is a good choice with people who can pay more (but they dont have a phone with front facing camera - no video calling). Please bear with me while I go though EVO+Sprint & iPhone+ATT&T and Droid-X+Verizon in brief (hope my effort helps some one out there). HTC EVO + Sprint: You get a cutting edge phone ($199). Monthly charges review- unlimited data + unlimited messaging + unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling (irrespective of the network) + 450 anytime minutes(can use just for landline calls as all mobile calls are free) + free Sprint GPS navigation + early nights and weekends (start at 7PM instead of the normal 9PM) + 4G speeds --- all for $79 / month. Phone's screen is amazing, so is the sense UI interface. Installing and using app's is very easy. One of my friends (a iPhone user for 2years) asked - "Is it easy to use?" My reply was - "As easy as iPhone with more possibilities than iPhone". And needless to say my friend was amazed with HTC EVO when I showed him the pics it took. I took his picture with no light in the room at night time(11pm) with flash and it came out amazing. Currently Cincinnati doesnt have 4G and frankly I don't feel the need for it, Sprint 3G is that fast. High Def youtube vids start running in 5 secs (I always have WiFi switched off on the phone, just to test out its 3G speeds). Only slight drawback is this phones battery (its still better than iPhone 3GS), but we can change the phone settings and now I get to use the phone whole day on a single charge (with 30mins of youtube + 30mins browsing + 30mins playing with the phone + talktime). When I do more youtube, I need to charge it by 7pm. For example, the other day I used this phone for 1hr browsing + 30mins gps + 1hour youtube and the phone got to 20% charge by 7pm. If you ask me, battery shouldnt be the reason why you shouldnt get this phone. Now I also want to give a wee bit about iPhone+ATT&T and Motorola Droid X+Verizon (hoping that it helps people choose better). iPhone 4 + ATT&T: You get the best selling phone ($199). Monthly charges review- 2GB data cap + NO free messaging + NO unlimited out of network mobile-to-mobile + 450 anyime minutes + NO free GPS + NO free early nights and weekends + NO 4G speeds (even 3G on AT&T's network is horrible) all this for $65 / month. If you want the same featires as Sprints $79 plan, AT&T will charge you $100 per month AND still a data cap on 2GB (exceed it and will get charged $10/GB). The iPhone 4 has been raved as a wonderful looking phone, I beg to differ. I prefer the HTC EVO looks. Just place both side to side and see for your self, its a individual thing after all (and YES EVO fits perfectly fine in my pocket). iPhone screen has great resolution but EVO has bigger screen and frankly, for me bigger screen matters and EVO has sufficient resolution to make my friends jaw drop. Apple has much more apps but for all intents and purposes Android has all the apps I will ever need and Android is growing by leaps and bounds AND almost 70% of apps in Android market are free, only about 35% of Apple apps are free. Motorola Droid X + Verizon: Droid-X ($199) supposedly has much better battery life that EVO. But no front facing camera for video calls. A slightly larger (longer) in size and a ugly bump at one end (lengthwise) - might not fit into some jeans pockets. The interface is no where near HTC's Sense UI. Coming to plan, Monthly charges review- 5GB soft data cap + unlimited free messaging + NO unlimited out of network mobile-to-mobile + 450 anyime minutes + NO free GPS + NO free early nights and weekends + NO 4G speeds (even 3G on AT&T's network is horrible) all this for $90 / month.

Great Overall Phone
Posted .I just picked up the HTC EVO. I recently switched carriers from US Cellular to Sprint because I have heard alot of great things from friends who have Sprint and was also able to get 25% of my Simply Everything Plan because of my job. Let me tell you straight out that this phone rocks! The performance the snapdragon processor adds is amazing and I cannot wait for the Android 2.2 update (Froyo) which will make everything even smoother. The phone itself is not too big for me but I could see where it would be an issue for some smaller people out there because it barely fits into my hand. I barely have the brightness on and it is still really vibrant. I also love the marketplace with all of its free apps. Lots to choose from (make sure you get advanced task killer!!!!). Now the bad. There really isn't anything bad about the phone but there are some features I thought were not that great. First, I am lucky to live in Chicago where 4G is available, but this phone does goes through the battery pretty quickly when you first get it so I rarely have 4G even on. I know the battery needs to discharge and recharge a few times before it is at its peak (I have read online about people having much much better performance from their battery after the first two weeks...just got phone 2 days ago). I would def put the phone in standby when not using it and also adjust your brightness and download advanced task killer to shut down any programs that are running in the background. So now we get to the question, is this the best phone out there? With the IPhone 4 coming out in less than two weeks, we will have to wait and see when it is released. As for now, in my opinion it is! I am a Apple fanboy but wasn't about to join ATT when they no longer have unlimited data plans and their coverage is not the greatest where I live. ***disclaimer...the following is a review of my first few days of Sprint service. So far it has been absolutely great. The coverage is amazing and was in a car with two buddies driving through Oak Park (just west of Chicago) and my buddy with ATT had no bars, buddy with Verizon had 2 bars and I had full. Now I know it all depends on the coverage area so I say check where you live before you make a decidion on what carrier to go with because you can have an awesome phone like the EVO, IPhone4, but if the carrier isn't strong where you live, that would be a deal breaker for me.
