State of the art technology that is user friendly
Posted .I've had this phone for almost a month now and it has been excellent. I upgraded from the Samsung Moment which had its share of problems and I went throught 7 Moments but fortunately I have had no problems with the Evo yet. Value of price: For its price (I purchased it for $199.99 after tax it was abt $240) I think it's reasonable but if you see it on sale grab it, it'll be worth every penny. Features: One thing that I love about the Evo is that it's customizable. You can customize your phone in anyway imaginable so you can have all the shortcuts, faceplates, widgets, etc, that you want. What's also nice about the Evo is that it does run on the Android system and it automatically updates itself so your phone is always up to date. Also, there is a wide variety of apps available for you on the Android market but I must admit that I do like the Apple market just a little better, but the the thing that Apple can't beat on the Android market is that practically every app is FREE and they usually match the apps that they have on Apple (ex: Apple: Words with Friends, Android's version: WordFeud). So, its almost as good, and oh it doesn't hurt that you can download free Mp3s right onto your phone from one of the free apps offered on the Android. And did I mention it also has facetime? You just need to download Tango and you can facetime with ANY iphone or android user that has tango! Oh and this phone is ridiculously fast! With the capability of 4G speed although personally I dont think its that necessary because it's already fast on 3G but when you do get on 4G the speed is incredible. Texting is also incredibly easy because of its large screen and calls are clear! Physical Features: The Evo may seem intimidating at first with its large size or rather its large screen but the screen is what makes it so unique. The screen has excellent colors and pixels and its screen is very reactive, rarely has it lagged on me. It also has a 8mp camera that takes pristine pictures, and front camera but the only complaint I have as far as the camera goes is the led flash. When taking pics in the dark especially close range the led flash tends to be too much so it makes alot of the pics "white" because of how much light exposure there is from the flash. The Evo also comes 8Gb micro sd but I suggest expanding it to a bigger memory especially if you have a tendency to download alot of apps or take lots of photos. And the kickstand? need i say more? it stands up without u having to hold it while u watch youtube. Ease of use: Extremely user friendly. Learning curve is easy and only takes a little exploration to get used to it. Battery Life: Heavy use 6-9hrs, moderate: 10-12, light: 12-14. Basically, buy a spare battery or upgrade to an OEM one.

OH-MY-GOD THIS PHONE IS AMAZING!
Posted .There's so much I love about the HTC Evo 4G- it's hard to find where to begin. I bought mine about a week ago and every day I am more and more impressed with the new things I discover about this wonderful device. Everything about its design is so intuitive that, while many (including myself) are unfamiliar with the Android platform, it is so easy to learn that even a beginner like myself can take full advantage of its large arsenal of features. This thing is so powerful that the time I spend on my laptop has significantly decreased because I can handle the vast majority of tasks directly on my phone. Some of its abilities include: -Upload pictures and videos to Facebook -Chat on AIM, Yahoo, MSN, or your favorite messenger -Handle multiple email accounts flawlessly -Stream video live onto your own permanent URL for others to view as you film -BEAUTIFUL graphical interface with HTC Sense (it even shows raindrop animations on the screen when it's rainy out!) -Navigation system so great I'm selling my Garmin on eBay -8MP camera that takes CRYSTAL CLEAR 3264 x 1952 images which can be uploaded and seen on Facebook within 5 seconds of taking the picture. You can't even tell they were taken on a phone they're so quality -Create a "hot spot" a.k.a. you can use your phone to create a wireless network wherever you go! Up to 8 devices can get internet wirelessly through the Evo at once. Password protection options also provided -AMAZING voice recognition; the "voice search" feature is totally underrated. Say a word or phrase into the Evo and it will perform a Google search and give you results INSTANTLY (this phone is SO fast). I haven't had to repeat myself once yet -A kickstand on the back of the phone so you can lay back and relax as you watch HD videos Of course, there are many more possibilities with this phone, but these are the main ones I have used and ALL of them have worked so pleasantly this phone has yet to give me a single headache. Just about every aspect of this phone has exceeded my expectations (and I had high expectations). Before my purchase, I was a little nervous about how I would like and adapt to an Android phone (and my first touch screen). It has truly been a pleasurable experience learning how to use this phone, and I am thrilled with its lightning fast performance. Coming from a Blackberry Curve 8330, everything on the Evo just works so fast you would never believe it unless you tried it. So much less time is wasted waiting for data to load that you will find using the phone much more enjoyable and actually hard to put down since it's so darn fun. While the phone as a whole is absolutely stunning, there ARE some small faults to it, which would lower my rating to a 4.9/5.0 overall. However, I would like to address 2 common "cons" to this phone that I have read about but personally have not had a problem with. 1) First, the large screen and overall physical size of the phone is not awkward or a "brick" as many have described it. I barely feel my phone when it's in my pocket, and the large screen looks is great because things aren't crammed and you have many more possibilities visually, including more keyboard buttons that aren't present on other touch phones because they would not fit 2) While I have not owned it for very long, the battery life does not seem to be as bad as it sounds. I read somewhere online today that the batteries need to be run down and recharged a few times before they start working at their best. This seems to be true for me too. The first couple of days, my phone was barely lasting 6 hours with moderate to high use. However, over the last couple of days I have noticed that the battery isn't dying as fast, and that it has lasted many hours through heavy use and still has a large amount of battery remaining. However, I will still be getting a car charger and will be waiting to see what develops in the extended battery sector. On to the downside... the first thing that I was let down by was the 4G coverage in my area. I live in a populated Chicago suburb, and I checked the 4G coverage map and it indicated my neighborhood would have maximum 4G reception. Well when I turn 4G on in my bedroom, I don't even pick up 4G, and when I do, it has no bars and is slower than 3G which gets a strong signal. I have not tried this in other areas near my home or outside. However, even with 3G, this phone is so amazing that the thought wouldn't even cross my mind to return this phone just because 4G coverage isn't great in my area (YET)! I also have noticed a few strange error messages that come up from time to time. I'm not really sure what they mean, but I press "OK" and they disappear immediately. This seems to have no effect on the phone and everything continues to run smoothly, but I'm not sure why I get errors like that sometimes. Also, the battery of course is a negative. But like I said, my battery is actually beginning to last longer after owning it for about a week. Others have reported this happening too, so I'm guessing a lot of the complaints coming up online are from people who first turn on their phone and are disappointed with it dying so soon. However, we shouldn't have to worry about this at all. If so many features are going to be included, it should be expected that they will be used frequently and that the power will be drained. I wish this phone came with a better battery, but it is definitely not a deal breaker for me. Overall, the HTC Evo 4G is a MUST have. It seems to be the most powerful phone out there in terms of capabilities, and it has a promising future with the 4G network powering it. Every day I fall more in love with this phone. It does everything I want it to do and it all happens hassle-free with minimum time wasted on loading screens. Multitasking is simple and it is very easy to navigate through the phone menus. It is important to remember that this isn't just a phone you're buying- it's a digital camera, GPS unit, wireless router, gaming pad, mp3 player, radio, TV, movie player and web browser... all in addition to being a *very* smartphone. It also comes with quickoffice. I have not used this but it sounds like you can add "work station" to the list. All of these features are packed into a beautiful looking phone that has cool live wallpapers and other UI scenes to choose from. It is very customizable and I definitely recommend the HTC Evo 4G to anybody who really wants to have a dependable phone with all of the latest topnotch features.

Great powerhouse of a phone
Posted .Everyone's complaining that the battery is not up to par. I have not experienced a single problem with it. I use it a lot during the day, and I have never had a problem with it going dead. Of course, to make it last, I use a process killer that shuts down programs I'm not using with an easy button press. Moving from the battery, the screen is amazing. You really need to see it to believe it. If you look at the pre-iPhone4 screens, they look terrible compared. The market place isn't bad, as there's a lot of apps available for download. It isn't as plentiful as the app store from Apple, but the important stuff is there. Beyond that, you can install apps from outside the marketplace. I don't have any 4g service in my area, but I can vouch for the 3g service from Sprint. I'm in a pretty small city in central Wisconsin and I get GREAT service everywhere I go. I can't remember ever loosing a call, and the data speed is really quick. I happen to have a device that relies on AT&T's 3g network (Sony Reader Daily). There is NO 3g service anywhere near here from AT&T. I guess Verizon's maps were right. It is SUPER slow, and I feel sorry for anyone with an iPhone anywhere near here. Sprint's service really puts everyone else to shame. This really is a great phone. Every feature on this phone is amazingly implemented. Sprint just makes this phone shine. If if were released on any other carrier, I think disappointment would quickly ensue. The things that aren't so great: You're required to use "quik" to talk face to face, and of course, this costs extra. It looks like any application can access the front camera, so I doubt this will be the only program for too long. Skype or someone will step in with a solution. I would stay away from the case that snaps on the phone. Not only does it make the phone larger, it feels good at first, but quickly starts creaking. I would wait for an OEM solution. I imagine the

My favorite phone so far
Posted .I have gone through dozens of phones over the years and I must say that i am very impressed with the EVO. Lets start with the OS: Most of the tech specs state that the EVO uses Android 2.1, this is false. There has been a recent upgrade to Android 2.2 and it it awesome. Out of the box, it will be running 2.1 but it will do an OTA (over the air) update to 2.2. I currently own a Palm Pre, Ipod 4 and the EVO, so I am using 3 different operating systems (WebOS, Android 2.2, and iOS 4.3), so I feel that I can make an informed review. The EVO is a great phone for those with moderate to advanced tech skills. Generally speaking, if you dont know your way around a PC, this isnt the phone for you. If you want something that just makes calls, takes pictures and sends texts, save your money and look elsewhere, this isnt the phone for you. The EVO has so many capabilities, it would be nearly impossible to sum them all up in a review. In a nutshell, if you can think it, chances are there is a way for your EVO to do it. The Google Market has thousands of free and payware apps to personalize your EVO into the ultimate companion. Phone: Excellent quality phone. Clear reception, no dropped calls so far. Email: Gmail account required, however, it will integrate with just about any email client and will do multiple accounts SMS/Text: touch screen takes some getting used to, but having the big screen makes typing easy. The screen sensitivity is nearly perfect. Screen: 4.3in screen seems big at first, but you will learn to love it. The display quality and resolution is outstanding. Battery Life: Not the greatest, but not the worst. Battery life will depend on how you use the phone. Using GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G etc will cause the life to be greatly reduced. On a normal day, with GPS enabled, with around 10-20 text messages, 30-50min of talk and about 5 min of facebook, the battery will last around 12 hours. If you enable the WiFi hotspot, the battery will only last about 2 to 4 hours. Best advice, carry the USB cord with you and plug it in every chance you get. Wifi Hotspot: i do not live in a 4G area, but on 3G it works well. Its not blazing fast or anything, but it works as advertised. 4G: Only used a few times while out of town, but it is smokin fast. I barely got a signal and it was still fast. If I had 4G access locally, i would get rid of my cable modem, its really that fast. Cameras: Both cameras are great. The forward facing camera is great for video chatting. The 8 megapixel rear camera is awesome. Takes very high quality video and pictures. The cons: Battery life. there are extended life batteries available that increase the life of the battery, but also increase the size of the phone. included Micro SD card. The EVO includes an 8gb card, but for the price, it should include a 16gb. Not really a flaw, but it would be nice It would be nice if it came with some sort of case or holster. It feels like it is built sturdy but i fear the day it falls on the concrete. The Pros: the kickstand, genius! the smooth, slick finish. Android 2.2 Dual cameras Wifi hotspot 4G HDMI out Beautiful large screen. 1ghz processor I can go on and on about it, but to sum it up, excellent phone!

Best smartphone out, smokes my old iphone4 easilly
Posted .let me clear the air with the evo..the phone stock sucks. the iphone4 is easily better, more smooth and the battery lasts longer. if you want a stock phone thats boring and easy to use, this phone isnt for you, period. now, if your a somewhat intellectual person and can handle some internet downloads to customize the phone, this phone will open up into an amazing machine. this phone rocks because you can easily replace the battery and memory card, something the iphone could only dream of. I personally have two replacement 2000mah batteries from ebay and shipped they were $16, and with some of the custom stuff i have "flashed" to my phone, i easily get 32-40 hours of battery life. just use the phone right. if you leave everything on and brightness cranked up and use video wallpapers what do you expect? it has a huge screen and has alot of stuff that can drain the battery. if youve had an iphone, youve heard of jailbreaking. now with android, you can "root" it aka jailbreaking for an iphone. this frees up the phone and opens up the customizing capabilities. you can flash custom roms (basically like different setups and somewhat of an operating system) and kernels and radios etc. this voids the warranty but im telling you, if done right this phone can be overclocked to 1.2ghz safely and can be undervolted to use basically no battery when not in use. the android app market offers alot of custom apps for rooted phones that greatly set your phone apart from the norm. do your research and look into the forums online if your interested. this phone is an absolute beast waiting to be released. I can download a song over wifi in less than 20 seconds, a very large internet page can be fully loaded within 2-3 seconds, its ridiculous! i consider the iphone4 and the evo two of the top phones out now, and being an unbiased user of both, the evo outshines the iphone in every regard except for camera quality, screen quality, and 3g internet speeds from the respective providers. other than that the evo smokes the iphone. enjoy the phone and sprints amazing coverage, customer service, and low payments for plans. I'll never go back to the iphone!!

EXCELLENT SMART PHONE!!!
Posted .My wife and I have had the white Evos for about a week now and they are absolutely amazing! I just came from an iphone and couldnt be happier! Im not saying that the iphone isnt good, because it is. I didnt think anything would compare to or be better than iphone, so i was a little scared to switch to an evo. Im glad i did. This thing is so smooth and super fast at everything it does! I have heard alot of bad reviews because of the battery life, but it hasnt been an issue for me or my wifes evo. Its not that great, but its no worse than my iphone was. You just need to get a task killer on the market(which is free), and turn stuff off like gps and wifi or whatever else your not using, and turn that stuff on when you are. Its that simple. This thing is a pocket computer that can do multiple things, all at the same time, so if you expect the battery to last all day on a single charge while your using the internet, messaging, talking to people and all of the other endless possibillities, its not going to happen. Im getting about 13 to 15 hours on a singe charge now that i have cycled the battery a few times. about 4 and a half hours if im constantly messing with it( thats all i did the first two days) So if you want a phone that will last more than 3-5 days on one charge, get a simple flip phone that does nothing but let you talk to people. If you want a smart phone that does everything but cook you breakfast as long as you charge it once a day, GO GET YOURSELF AN EVO....YOU WONT REGRET IT!! Once you get used to the android system, all other phones just seem average.

Awesome phone....(Sprint 4G?? ehhh!)
Posted .Bought this phone over 9 months ago and it is absolutely fabulous!! As a phone- The call quality is perfect. Its surprisingly comfortable to hold (even though it is larger than your average smart phone 4.8"x2.6" & 6 oz.). Speaker-phone is crystal clear as well. As a camera- The 8MP camera is amazing. (I have not used my stand-alone digital camera since I got this phone...The camera is that good !) It has LED flash, auto focus, zoom & shoots HD video@ 720P! As a Smartphone-This device has excellent processing speed! It is an office in the palm of your hand. I surf the web, send emails, text messages, write documents etc.. (My laptop is nearly obsolete!) In some instances the 4.3" screen is sizable enough to show clients project photos and video...Plus with the HDMI port, I can hook into a TV or monitor for more formal stuff. Battery life is fair considering all of the demands I am placing on this thing. (I installed a free task-killer app that ensures things are off when not in use!) My only major gripe is the 4G issue at Sprint...From day 1, I have been charged the $10/ phone premium for 4G (I Have 3- 4G phones)...yet 4G is spotty at best in my area (Jax, FL) and is a battery-killer when the phone is constantly trying to make 4G connection! I am hopeful Sprint can address this soon but I am not holding my breath. All in all this is an excellent purchase and the perfect phone for my needs! Accessories I use: Black Platinum Series case w/ holster, Mini HDMI cable, Zagg Invisible Shield (to protect screen), Plantronics Hands-free
