Wonderful Prequel to BoTW
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.10/10, I recommend. Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is a must-have action packed game for any Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Dynasty Warriors fans alike. This game is a direct prequel to the events of BoTW and has a fantastic storyline with a variety of familiar faces to play as. It's not as grindy as it seems on the surface, but keep in mind that this is a hack & slash game. Don't sleep on this game.

Hyrule warriors
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I prefer the definitive edition instead of the age of calamity. After an hour of play, I’d have to say that The definitive edition has more game modes. (This is just a brief summary).

Familiar Feel But Also All New - More Enemies !!!
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendGot this as a Christmas gift for our children and they absolutely love it. We have Breath of the Wild which they also love playing. Hyrule Warriors is more action packed and while different than BOTA, it has a familiar feel. In Hyrule, the first person player gets to go up against larger groups of enemies. The game is different in a good way and captures the imaginations of our young to middle-teenaged children. A game that you'll have lots of fun playing for a long time. Worth the purchase and highly recommended!

Not what I was hoping for
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendThe original Hyrule Warriors was released on three different Nintendo systems. I owned and played it on all three. I loved it! I also loved Breath Of The Wild. I played through to the ending and then went back (with some cheating) and unlocked the complete ending. I had achieved everything in it I knew I would yet still played for two more weeks because I had trouble moving on from it. That's a long winded way of saying when I saw there was a game that was a sequel in title to Hyrule Warriors and a prequel in story to Breath Of The Wild I was extremely excited. As its release date approached I realized I was so excited that the only outcome was I would be disappointed by it. I was kind of joking with that but unfortunately I was correct. I expected changes from the first game but basically the same game. Age of Calamity is so different! Not all of the changes are bad though. In the original switching between secondary weapons often had you accidentally switching characters (usually in an important boss fight). This does not happen in Age Of Calamity. Also there are these training levels and quests in between the levels that actually progress you through the game. They are important because they help you level your characters up as well as unlock attack moves, recipes and markets you can purchase items from. Then downside of these levels and quests is they totally kill the main storyline of the game. I do enjoy the main levels of the game and progressing between them but these levels and quests are far too numerous. I will stick with it and get as far as I can in the game but overall I just am not really into it. If I had not played the original it's possible I would love Age Of Calamity but I did and I'm let down by it. I rated it 4 stars because I don't hate it and it is still an interesting idea and timeline. I wouldn't say to skip it but I wouldn't really encourage anyone to drop everything and buy it either.

You'd better want to play a Warriors game.
|Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendPlay this if you want to take down Lynels in only a minute, send mobs of lesser foes flying, and pilot a Divine Beast. Don't play it if you're only interested in the connection to Breath of the Wild: Warriors gameplay is a completely different, frenetic beast. If you like Hyrule Warriors this is worth a look for an experience that makes more sense. Also, this one has a training room where you can try things out without being in actual combat.

Fun and Somewhat Canon to Original
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendIf you liked Zelda: BoTW, and also like Dynasty Warriors-esque hack-and-slash, then this game is a must-have for you. The game plays similar to the previous Hyrule Warriors, but has mechanics and functions taken from the BoTW series: Sheikah Slate is used as extra skills unique to each individual character you play as. The main story of the game takes place 100 years prior to BoTW, right before the Calamity, and is canon to the original game. Overall, the game does not elaborate on more information that you might've known from BoTW, and is more like a walk down memory lane with a few twists. Replayability is fairly high, leveling and upgrading each character's skills and weapons, and I assume there will be updates and DLC to come. Wipe out a bunch of Moblins with style in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. It's a no-brainer hack-and-slash for you and a buddy.

My new favorite title on the Switch!
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendThis game is such a blast to play! Gameplay-wise, it is an improvement over the original Hyrule Warriors, but is not as content heavy, at least not yet. Hopefully DLC is coming soon! All of the characters feel unique, and there isn't anyone that I dread having to be play as, unlike the original (looking at you, Tingle and Agitha). As a heads-up for fans of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it does play more like that than Hyrule Warriors. Also, it is not a prequel, it splits the timeline in the opening cutscene, so events are a little different than what is seen in the memories.
