Works with HomeKit
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this item, I use it for my window AC unit. Works with HomeKit too so I can use Siri or Alexa to turn this outlet on or off. I don't even have to be home to turn it on. The app is Free and works very well. The setup was super easy and took less than 5mins.

Build a better plug...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Building a smart home, I've experimented with a lot of plugs like this. Overall, I've found Koogeek to be my favorite. iDevices dropped connection to the point where automated events rarely performed when scheduled. iHome's smart plug is more akin with Kookgeek's in reliability. I replaced the iDevice with this one in my bathroom to turn on an electric radiator to heat it up before early morning showers. iHome has yet to fail me due to connectivity issues. This smart plug is rubberized and seemingly more rugged than the rest. I feel more comfortable with it in my bathroom and would choose it for other non-home indoor structures like garages or outbuildings. There is a button on the side where one can manually turn it on or off. By this button is an LED showing it's connected and another showing whether it's on or not. This is more or less useful depending on where it's plugged in and it's orientation. My only caveat from switching out the iDevice with this iHome switch is the former had a color changing nightlight which I LOVED. The LEDs on this switch sheds some light but it's not adequate. Other than that, this plug is superior in every way. All plugs mentioned work great with Apple's HomeKit yet none work with Amazon's Echo/Dot. iHome's plug is thin and fits into a wall socket well, not blocking the second plug. Two could possibly be used at the same time.

In the iHome Control app you can connect a 3rd party connection for the Amazon Echo Dot.

Look Ma, No Hub!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the few Apple HomeKit-compatible outlets on the market that does not require a hub. You can control it over your home WiFi network, from an iPhone, using Apple's Home app. This characteristic, coupled with the device's low price, permits an economical yet powerful home automation installation. Optionally, keeping an iPad at home, or adding an Apple TV (the new 4K model or the prior 4th-generation one), lets you program events ("automations") and control the outlet remotely, when your iPhone is not on your home WiFi network. The manufacturer also provides a proprietary mobile app and an optional account service, allowing you to program events without using Apple HomeKit. Last but not least, the device reportedly supports home automation solutions from Google and Amazon. Having tried WiFi and Bluetooth outlets from two other manufacturers over the past two years, I found this one easier to set up. I installed the manufacturer's iOS app, scanned the unique code printed in the manual, and watched the app take control of the outlet and configure it for my WiFi network. The outlet soon showed up in Apple's Home app, and I've had no reason to return to the manufacturer's app. One thing that surprised me about this product is its high power rating. Some remote-control outlets support loads no larger than 500 Watts. This one can handle an 1800 W load, making it suitable for turning small kitchen appliances on and off. (A device plugged in to any remote-control outlet must have a manual, not electronic, on-off switch, or start itself automatically when power is applied.)

Far more reliable than others, still not perfect
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tested multiple smart home plug from various vendors and keep going back to this one for myself, as well as for family and friends. More reliable than others, but not saying a whole lot given how truly awful so many plugs are. Still have to unplug and plug it back in occasionally. The HomeKit workflow isn't nearly as convenient as other devices since the sticker is attached in such way that you can't really scan while it's plugged in. Writing the code down is easy enough, but a small inconvenience once you've had the device for a while and the sticker on the paperwork is buried somewhere.

Apple Homekit Setup a Breeze
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The directions completely skip over how to set up this plug using Apple's Home app, which is installed by default in iOS 10. Using this setup method doesn't require the iHome Control app, but it is so simple to do so that I don't feel justified in removing a star from my rating. Setup is equivalent to how a new Apple Airport (both the Express and Extreme) are setup. Once the smart plug is plugged into the wall and the green Wi-Fi light is blinking, go to the device Settings app and Wi-Fi (were you would go to select a network to connect to). Below all of the available Wi-Fi networks the plug will be listed as a new device to be set up. Tap on it and follow the prompts to connect it to the network your iOS device is currently connected to (this will involve scanning or entering by hand a code that is both on the bottom of the plug and on a sticker inside the manual). You will then be able to name the device and name a room that it is located in. After this the outlet will be available as a toggle button inside the Home app. It will also be registered with Siri so that you can simply say "Turn on <name of device>" and it will turn on. The iHome control app setup is similar, but once set up it gives you access to additional information such as power state history (a list of time stamps and whether the plug was on or off at this time). I have not tried it with any other services it integrates with, such as Amazon Alexa, Nest, or Wink. If your are looking for integration with IFTTT, though, that is the one major service this device does not currently work with.

Q: QuestionCan this be used with a window ac or a portable floor ac?
Asked by Clarkie.
- A:Answer It can handle up to 1800 watts, so if your AC draws less, it should work, however, I have not used them to power that type of device and motor loads are different than incandescent/led lights, so you might want to check directly with iHome. I have found these unreliable in use, so I would not recommend them.

Q: QuestionCan this plug be connected to Apple HomeKit and Alexa simultaneously so either app could control it?
Asked by WayneB.
- A:Answer Yes, you set up an iHome account and you can connect that account to a number of different apps and bridges and smart home speakers simultaneously. I use mine with Wink, Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Home, simultaneously.

Q: QuestionThe description states that it used for small appliances under 1500 watt. Am I still able to use this for a 55 inch Television?
Asked by TV.
- A:Answer Please check the specs of your television. This will not work on newer televisions because the plug responds to on/off rules (commands). If you turn the television "off" (example unplug the TV). When you plug it back in to the wall, the power will not come on unless the power button is pressed manually. Q: QuestionCan I enter my wifi name and SSID manually? I have a hidden wifi and TP-Link would not allow me to manually enter to set up.
Asked by Mominator.
- A:Answer No need to enter your hidden SSID or password. My SSID is also hidden & I had no issues setting mine up in seconds. Just download the iHome Control App & it will connect automatically using the information from your phone. Quick & easy!
