The sound quality is not very good volume on phone is louder than volume coming from speaker will b returning

I was hoping this was at least good on the sound. This was a Christmas Gift for my son, and after he connected his phone to the speaker, I thought this thing was broken. Unfortunately the return window had closed before Christmas so I could not return it. I would much rather give them away to a small child because it was such a disappointment.
