    Synopsis

    In the Blood
A female fighter uncovers a vast conspiracy in the Caribbean when her new husband is kidnapped on their honeymoon in this action thriller starring former MMA bruiser Gina Carano (Haywire). Newlywed Ava (Carano) and her husband are celebrating their recent marriage in paradise when the smitten groom vanishes into thin air. Devastated, Ava seeks brutal revenge against the men she believes to have abducted him. The closer Ava gets to the answers, however, the more apparent it becomes that she has stumbled into a plot that's bigger than she could have ever expected. Now, she must survive long enough to seek vengeance, and to expose the sinister act of treason once and for all. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

OK, just not as much martial arts as you'd expect.

So, I'm rather picky when it comes to any films with martial artists because I expect to see some great fighting. I always hope the storyline is good but the martial arts absolutely have to be top-notch. I am a fan of Gina's well known fighting skills and am pleasantly surprised at her recent forays into acting as well considering that is not the background from which she emerged. That being said...I will say I was dissapointed in the smaller amount of martial arts/fighting in the film. I was expecting something similar to her other film, Haywire, and unfortunately that wasn't the case. Yes there was some here and there but when you watch Gina you want and expect to see her kicking butt throughout a larger portion of the film. Fighting aside, it definately allowed her to spread her acting wings. I was especially impressed with her performance while she was checking hospitals for her hubby...she did well in expressing the worry, frustration and intense emotion in a very believable way. The plot itself is decent but nothing amazing. The end of the film where Danny Trejo arrives seems a bit contrived and not completely believable but other than that it's worth a watch. So, in a nutshell the film is definately worth seeing, just plan to appreciate that her performance gets more play than her fighting. Both are enjoyable.

Gina Carano’s second time in the lead role, has her trying to find out where her recently married husband disappeared while they are on their honeymoon. Her character has a troubled past, and was raised and trained to fight by her deceased dad. It is an adventure watching her take matters into her own hands, to find out where her husband went, is well done. Overall an entertaining movie that has scenes of Gina’s beaming smile for audiences to admire, rather than the focused eyes of steel that are focused on kicking someone’s head in (which also occurs in this movie). In comparison to other movie characters, I would rather have Gina come looking for me, rather than Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon (who often ends up arriving too late).

      Good For a Limited Budget

Having seen a fair share of direct to video (or dvd) movies over the years its easy to know the basics of what you'll experience in the product upon viewing. This film doesn't stand out much from your typical small budget action film, however, you can't deny that this isn't a enjoyable action flick. Granted it started of a little too dull in my opinion, at the 30 minute mark they right the ship and set sail. Gina Carano is far from a great actress but you will always be entertained when she does her thing in a fight scene. There is a weird, somewhat shoehorned flashback subplot to the heroines' father and lesson he taught her, but again with a low budget action film you tend to ignore some shortcomings. Its not a bad movie for what it is.

MMA star Gina Carano (Haywire, Fast and Furious 6) stars as Ava, a trained fighter with a dark past in this intense action/thriller from director John Stockwell (Blue Crush, Crazy/Beautiful). When her new husband (Cam Gigandet, Twilight) vanishes during their Caribbean honeymoon, Ava uncovers a violent underworld of conspiracy in the middle of an island paradise. Armed with a deadly set of skills, Ava sets out to discover the truth and to take down the men she thinks are responsible for her husband's abduction, one by one. Ismael Cruz Cordova (The Good Wife), Luis Guzmán (Traffic), Treat Williams (Chicago Fire), Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break), Stephen Lang (Avatar) and Danny Trejo (Machete) co-star.

Gina Carano's follow-up to Haywire is another step forward for a career in action movies establishing her as a legitimate action hero, should she decide to continue down that path. She has delivered two great action films and a natural knack for acting, especially for a newcomer. The film has a nice flow to it with a lot of great fight scenes and it maintains a good steady build of suspense.

I really liked Carla in her first film "Haywire". Which is why I purchased this one. Hoping for more of what she brought to her first film. But this one didn't quite make it for me. She's still fun to watch. But the film just wasn't polished well enough. It lacks good characters and directing. Better luck on her third time around. See this one once but isn't worth multiple viewings.

If you're into DTV action movies, this one wont disappoint. Gina Corano is an accomplished martial artist and it shows in her fight scenes. If you're looking for Shakespeare, you're out of luck. The plot is good enough, the dialogue is a bit corny and the acting is pretty poor. Recommended for action/fight fans.

I didn't know what to expect with this movie. My expectations were low. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the story line. It was entertaining and kept me engaged throughout the whole movie. It didn't hurt that Gina is easy on the eyes too. Excellent movie!
