Decent fantasy fare.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Swords, sorcerers, and some good fast paced action I've come to expect as a Statham fan. It's not going to win any awards, but it's a decent attempt in the genre.

Uwe Boll strikes again.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Director Uwe Boll continues his reign as supreme video-game-to-junk-movie master with yet another outing. This time he takes on Dungeon Siege, a game or game series I am unfamiliar with, and tries his best at paying homage to or ripping off, you decide, other classic fantasy realm epics of the past. And yet again shows us why we love, or hate, his terrible movie so much. I will argue that of all the Uwe Boll movies, In the Name of the King: a Dungeon Siege Tale ties up with House of the Dead as being his better efforts. Unfortunately like all of his films this movie has the same flaws that plague all of his projects. Poorly developed characters, horrible acting, embarrassingly awful scenery and mindless action that mostly seems out of place are all present in this film. I was surprised at some of the casting choices in the film. I did like Jason Statham as the heroic farmer named, no lie, Farmer. I've always liked Statham, and see him as being among the last true action stars today. Even when the film hit rock bottom, Statham was always a source of entertainment. Ron Perlman was decent as Norick, one of Farmer's companions. And I actually liked Brian J. White as Commander Tarish, the head of the King's army. Like all other Boll films, there are a lot of actors in this film who seem like they just wanted a paycheck. Matthew Lillard is just painfully awful as Duke Fallow, the devious nephew to the King who is trying to usurp the throne. Burt Reynolds has no place in a fantasy epic like this, and it was difficult to believe him as the King. And Ray Liotta just did work as the wizard Gallian. Both he and Reynolds were just out of place in this film. The movie has a lot of plot holes that were aggravating. Farmer's whole purpose of going against Gallian is because of the death of his son, but the film never deals with this issue. And Duke's usurper story line is never properly dealt with in the end either. And then the movie just sort of ends all of a sudden without a real closure. I guess it could have been worse. We could have had something like the 10 endings that Return of the King had. The action in the film was alright, and the music was better than this film deserved. But in the end, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale is just another stain in Boll's endless career of turning cherished video games into junk films. You would figure that someone as busy as he is he would have accidentally made a good film by now.

Overall decent fantasy type movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Depending on how well you actually like fantasy movies to if this one will hit the mark. Its a decent solid movie. Jason Statham is his usual self, Ron Pearlman, while I like him, seemed a bit miscast, not based on performance just based on what I would picture him normally to fit. Ray Liotta is always a wild card, for this one Liotta wasnt bad, somewhat questionable of why not pick someone more qualified to be a fantasy bad guy than him, but wasnt a huge miss either. Leelee Sobieski did wonderful for her role, personally I think she would have done better than the gal cast in LotR trilogy (Eowyn) in the same basic role she had here, just something about her. Now I must say Burt Reynolds as the king really? Out of all the actors out there to include those that have done "king" roles? Connery, for instance would have been a better fit, perhaps even WIliam Hurt. Matt Lillard was terrible!

Don't Buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie seemed to have somewhat ripped off Lord of the Rings. The monsters' costumes looked really fake and battle scenes looked too fake where you can see people in the background wrestling more than fighting. Should have been a Sci-Fi Channel movie instead.
