Skeptical at First, but Amazing TV
Posted .Ok, I was looking into upgrading my old 15" CRT television in my room and I had been researching televisions for about two weeks, trying to find the best price, size, reviews, etc. Also, I couldn't decide between plasma, lcd..blah blah blah. I was looking at other models that were 42". Most models were about 800 dollars at that size. I went to Best Buy to look at what they had. I came across this one in the store and it was a great deal I looked up and it said insignia on the front and that made me nervous to get it, but it was a great size (bigger than what I originally wanted). I came back home and looked at the reviews. Please..ignore the bad ones. This television..is..incredible. I could see where if you had a big living room or den; you would probably need a surround sound system. I do, but the speakers in the tv really aren't to bad. Insignia is a great brand. The only reason you are paying high prices for a sony is because it says sony on the front. I got it out of the box...hooked it up to my XBOX 360 and was blown away. If you are a gamer in any form or a human being....get this tv...it looks amazing in 1080i....oh wait but the contrast ratio...honestly..forget that. This tv is incredible don't get too focused on the numbers. It's a great value for the size with great quality to go along with it. I got the 4 year service plan too so I'm set. Get this tv...seriously

Affordable HiTech Tv
Posted .Firstly a 47 inch TV with a great picture for under $800 . . . .cool ! We purchased this Tv for our bedroom and it works excellant exceding our expections. The very most important issue in picture quality that so many reviewers forget about is the viewing distance and become focused on settings and techno garble. I'm not suggesting that the set doesn't need to be tweeked out of the box, most do. But get too close to any larger set and it's instant YUCKO no matter how well the contrast, color or brightness is set. Our viewing ditance is between 7 to 10 feet. And unless the feed is nasty the picture is great. Sound quality can always be improved on. This set isn't all that bad considering our use. It can achieve enough fair quality volume to get me an elbow in the ribs and a TURN IT DOWN from my spouse. If it were setup in let's say the living room, you'd be begging for a surround setup. Maybe if my wife lets me, I might dig out my old Kenwood A/V and Bose system My BIGGEST only true beef with this set . . .THE DARN ONSCREEN DISPLAY SIZE !!! That's where the viewing distance changes. To read anything like time or channel, I have to get out of bed and get about 4 feet away before I can read it. I swear the little box that goes around the digits is only 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. Ridiculous ! I guess I'll just keep a pair of binoculars on the nightstand. Overall I'd refer this set to anyone that requires a TV this size. For those of you that care . . . here are my picture sources(very important to get the best quality). A High Def DirecTv Receiver connected via HDMI Cable And an Insignia Blue Ray DVD player also connected via HDMI Cable. Lastly . . .never forget to negotiate ! I said . . ."Now you'll give me a deal on the DVD player , right" SLAM . . .$50 BUCKS OFF. YAHOO I'm a happy customer, but don't forget to get the extra warranty. That way if your cat damages the screen, it will be fixed.

Great TV! Plus, you can't be the price!
Posted .So, I've had this TV now for about 3 months and let me just say, it rules! I was originally was just going into Best Buy just to look around on a Sunday afternoon out of boredom, not intending on making any type of large purchase. However, I ran into my father in there which talked me into purchasing a TV. I saught out the deals, but also looked at the normal priced televisions. It came down to a Sony 40: LCD vs. this Insignia LCD, which I knew a little about Insignia in Consumer Reports from doing research and knew they had a select few models that did very very well. So, I decided, due to the size factor, to purchase the Insignia! Little did I know just how great it would be, because one would assume that the Sony would be better. I will never know if the Sony was better or not, but I'll tell ya that this TV rules! From the sound quality (which according to my father whips the sound quality of his Samsung, which was much higher priced, although it's only a 40") to the picture quality, I have yet to find a problem. It was extremely good HD picture quality that is unsurpassed except by LED's, which may just be because they're using Blue-Ray (which I have yet to purchase but intend on doing so soon). But, after 3 months, it has been in unsurpassed experience and I have yet come to a day that I regret it. Oh yeah, the SD quality is amazing too, just a bit smaller which has nothing to do with the TV, more just the difference in cameras and resolution used to record the programming. Bottom line is there is no downfall to this TV, unless you want bigger, which it is said that the biggest regret by some is that they did not purchase a larger size! However, I am in an apartment so trust me, it is every bit large enough if not too big (if there is such a thing!)! So, good luck and I think you'll love this TV, if you choose to purchase it.

great tv
Posted .This is the first HD tv Ive owned. I got it on sale at Best Buy for $899. 2 months ago. I cant believe the pic quality of HD programming & regular DVD. I have no intentions of going blu-ray till they fix the bugs w players & the price drops on BD players. I find it hard to believe the pic quality could get much better than our TV gives us now. Also I did the calibration myself using AVIA disc. Let me say this. I am a 41 year old dad who really doesnt care about tech much. I am NO expert at this. But after doing the cali & talking w friends. I am even happier w this TV. It offers picture controls that other higher end TVs dont. Which made cali even easier. The menu is great. The audio is slightly lacking, So I ran it through my old Sony Prologic amp and bought new Bose accousitimas speakers. WOW. EVEN MY 13 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER APPROVES. If I won the lottery I wouldnt waste my money on any other TV. I would go back and buy 3 more of these. At regular price!!! Also Best Buy employees were very helpful. This TV was out of stock in store so I went to buy online...They wanted $120.00 for shipping. I went back to store and they ordered for me and had it in 3 days ready for pickup. Saved me.

Great for the Price
Posted .This is my second HDTV. My first was a 720P 50" plasma magnavox that is about 3-4 years old. The picture is great on this, but the factory settings arent that great. They turned up the brightness a bit, etc and did more for lively color making blacks worse (which is almost always more important in movies). Its also nice that you can easily change picture settings for each input, which can be important. For example, if you have the same sharpness settings for a DVD as you do for your bluray player, the blurays look "cartoony". Also, the magnavox had half the pixels so although it is 3" bigger, Wii and normal DVDs actually look LESS blurry on it compared to this insignia. Some people complained about the speakers on here, but I cant imagine why anyone would buy a tv like this and actually use the tv's speakers - I dont even know why it came with them. Forking over $100 for a cheap home theater will give you MUCH better sound quality over any tv's speakers these days. Only bad thing I've really found with this is that the buttons on the tv are useless. There is no power button on the front and not only are the buttons on the side, they arent at the edge and you have to reach around and behind the tv about an inch to get to them. Obviously, the manufacturer added this in last in case you loose the remote at the last minute. Still, most people are always going to use the remote anyways so it really isnt a big deal.

Couldn't Be Happier
Posted .This is our first HD TV and we couldn't be more pleased with it. It was easily the biggest we could get in our price range, and believe me when I say that it is huge! When compared to the other TVs on display it was not -quite- as clear, but there really isn't a significant difference. After reading the other reviews I expected the sound to be bad, but it's really great and you don't have to turn it up much for it to be loud. The picture is amazing when we play our PS3 games, and regular SD television doesn't look all that shabby either. The on-screen display for the menu and channels is a little small and doesn't utilize the full size of the screen, but you can still read it and the remote control is set up in such a convenient way, you'll rarely have to go into the menu anyway. There is quick access on the remote to all of your stuff: HDMI, VGA, closed captioning, etc. To top it all off, it comes with a VGA cable so you can hook your laptop up to the tv and use it as a monitor and stream video! The extra features are bare bones, but we were never interested in picture in picture or anything like that anyway. The TV does what we need it to do. We love this TV and would recommend it to anyone!

Great buy for price!
Posted .Before this purchase, I had a samsung 46in lcd and a 56in JVC rear projection tv. The JVC had a great picture but died so had to replace as cheap as possible. After setting up this LCD and tweaking backlight and contrast the picture is perfect...much better than the JVC, not much different than the samsung either. BTW turned backlight and contrast down from factory. Salesman told me the panels are made by LG but as always am skeptical of saleman knowledge. Called Insignia and they insist that their panels are made by them..I do not believe them either. My friends have LG lcd's, their menus are identical to mine, inputs selections are the same as well. To go a step further, their remotes are even the same except for the fact that LG remotes say LG and Insignia's are labeled Insignia. The same remotes none the less. At any rate the salesman may have been correct after all. Great buy for the price and consumer reports rates it well too!

Excellent TV
Posted .I've been researching TV's for some time. I bought this TV about 3 months ago, and I'm still in love with it! Everything from pickup to setup was easy. Bought it online, picked it up in the store (took about 10 minutes#, and set it up in 5 minutes. Everything about this TV is great! The picture quality is fantastic and the colors are bright. I'm not a fan of the internal speakers, but it's hooked up to a home theatre system, so they're not used much if at all. HD looks amazing on it, and DVDs pop off the screen #and I'm using an XBox 360 to watch them). I'm upgrading my reciever soon and I plan to get one with HDMI inputs, and I can't even imagine how good that's going to look! This set's menu is light on features, but you don't really need much, since it's all preset anyhow. If you're looking for a TV, don't overlook this TV. Great TV, awesome price, and you get one more inch for much less money!
