Good TV for the Price, Love the Warranty!
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis is my 2nd Insignia 42" model. I bought the 1st one 18 months ago and when it developed an intermittent line of dead pixels down the right side, the Geek Squad determined it needed replacement. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the 2 year warranty meant I got my full purchase price back! Thanks to the warranty I was able to move from a standard LCD to this smart LED LCD at no cost to me. We have now had this TV for about a month and I like it quite a bit. The picture is vibrant and I can see the difference that the LED backlighting makes. I love all the apps and the integration of Netflix as the version on the TV has a better interface than my BluRay's version. The sound is a bit weird as it is quite loud from my DirecTV receiver (I can't go past 8 without feeling like I'm blasting it), but muted on my BluRay (I have to go to 50 or 55 to hear conversations). Both are HDMI inputs, so I'm not sure what is going on there. The universal remote is good and was easy to setup. The shape of it is a bit odd, but now that I am used to it, it is fine. One other thing that takes a bit to get used to is the TV startup time. Since it is essentially a computer, it has a "boot up" time of a minute or two. This is a bit annoying, but probably unavoidable if you want to have apps on your TV.

Really Nice TV
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendFinally made the plunge into a flat panel TV. Looked at many but decided on the Insignia 42 inch because of the features (WiFi in particular), the price, and the two year warranty. The picture is excellent. Had to upgrade the Dish box to HD so that I was getting a 1080i picture, but once that was done - wow. Terrific picture. If you have cable or satellite you are not getting the picture you paid for if you don't have HD. I have a Roku that I really like. It has worked pretty much flawlessly. It has a great deal of internet content that the TV does not have. The Netflix on the TV is terrific - clear, vivid, high quality, streams really well. But there is no HBOGo app, nor is there an Amazon app (to rent movies, not shop). There should be. There are a bunch of great Roku channels and there is no reason why they cannot be made available on the TV as apps. That is a negative that caused me to give four bars for features. The WiFi internet connection was flawless. It readily reconnects after being off for a while. The WiFi setup was straightforward and simple. It took a bit to tweak the settings to maximize the picture and audio quality. Had to kind of play with it to figure out what worked for my eyes and ears. The sound is very good. Very clear and crisp. Not muddy at all. I'm not a gamer and don't like really loud TV sounds - so no Soundbar for me. The remote backlighting can be set to stay on longer - and that is a good idea. It is a bit hard to read some of the time with black keys. My remote had a broken power button - but a new one was shipped out after I called Insignia for assistance. The TV started all of a sudden popping an energy monitor onto the screen while watching TV, very randomly. Then stopped. The Insignia rep I talked to had never heard of that before but it stopped and went away, so annoying but minor. Plenty of connectors - 4 HDMI ports is terrific. I've got the Satellite box and the Roku on the HDMI ports, plus a DVD player using composite connections. Additionally, there's a VGA port to hook up a computer. I hooked my Mac to the TV using the VGA port and it worked immediately and without a hitch. Tonight I'm going to connect the Mac using a HDMI cable - and I imagine that will work flawlessly too. I am impressed with this TV after only a few days. It does what it is supposed to do very well. Now, if only there were more apps.........

Awesome TV at a Great Price...
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI picked this awesome tv on Best Buy's cyber monday sale when this tv was $150.00 off of the retail price of $699.99, could not pass up that deal. Just a great price for a 42" smart led lcd connected tv. This is our 2nd Insignia led lcd tv. The other is a 22" 1080p hd led lcd tv which is also just a great tv. But back to this 42" Insignia tv. Out of the box and set up was pretty simple. The only thing that took a little bit of time was attaching the base/stand to the back of the tv. Otherwise the actual set up of the tv on screen was a piece of cake, just followed the on screen prompts. Connected to my wireless secured network with no problem. One thing that you do want to do is search online, i think that cnet has it, for the calibration specifications for total picture optimation. I did this and the picture is just awesome. You also should upgrade your hdmi cable to a high speed with ethernet with at least 10.2 or higher gbps transfer speed. This will handle the 120hz refresh rate and really help the internet connectivity for streaming etc. I have directv and I was able to program the Insignia remote so that it completely works the directv HD-DVR and all of its functions, being able to use just one remote. The tivo interface/menu system works well, takes a bit to get use to if you have never used it before, such as myself, but it is easy to work with. In regards to the sound/speakers, i am just using the tv speakers for the setup that I have and the sound is very good, but if it was being used as a main tv in the living room I would get a sound bar and hook that up and turn off the tv speakers whenever possible. All in all I am extremely pleased with my purchase of this 42" Insignia connected smart tv. The service that I received from my local Best Buy store was top notch as usual. I would absolutely recommend this tv to anyone, even if they had to pay full retail. Even at that price, it is still a great deal. Don't hesitate at all to buy Best Buy's house brand #Insignia#, it is built just as good as the major brands and has the standard 2 year warranty as piece of mind. But I would recommend getting Best Buy's 4 year black tie service plan. It is not that expensive and it will cover the tv if it breaks due to a surge or lighting strike etc. The standard Insignia warranty does not cover that, so it is worth getting Best Buy's black tie service plan, which by the way is an in-home service plan, which is a nice perk.

Just a good quality tv, for an excellent price
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI did a lot of homework before I bought an LED TV because I'm 22 and money is well... tight. After owning this TV for a year I felt compelled to post a positive review, because the TV has outperformed the price. This TV was around $800 when I bought it and I dont regret a single dollar of that. It's just and excellent TV with a price that is next to impossible to beat. I shopped pretty much every store in my area including those with memberships, and best buy still beats their prices (even on the bigger brand names). I was a little skeptical about the Insignia house brand, but I've been nothing but impressed since I bought it. I play a ps3 on it and its been pretty awesome. Blue ray looks awesome My only advice is to toy around with the settings as you will need to calibrate it to maximize its potential. DO NOT PAY TO CALIBRATE IT. Look up the settings online with the Model #. I'm planning to buy a second one since the price has gone down; so my friends and I can play side by side online. Not to mention watching sports on one, gaming on the other. Or just browsing the web on one, and doing whatever on the other. My only issue was that best buy didn't give me reward points for the purchase of over $1,300 (w/ a ps3 and several games) even when I presented my membership at purchase. When I realized this, it was "too late" ( according to customer service) to recover the some $120 worth of reward points. Still the TV is more than I could ask for.

Great TV for the price
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI first saw this TV featured in a review online, and the review was very favorable. I had been looking at a Vizio 42 in that is just LCD but offers 3D for about 50 bucks less. I opted to spend the extra in an effort to gain the LED backlighting that this set features; cause who needs 3D in the bedroom anyhow. I also liked how slim the set is, esp compared to other set in this price range. Set up was straight forward easy to follow on screen. Adjusting to picture setting was a bit more time consuming but after adjusting some settings on the PS3, it was pretty quick. Picture quality is bright, vivid and crisp, a huge improvement overthe 720p LCD that I had in the bedroom previously. Blu-ray quality is amazing, and the faster refresh rate (120hz) works very well; our TV invthe living room has a 480hz refresh rate, but the quality on this set is good. Can't say about the sound, as I have it plugged into a Sony sound bar system, but TV speakers always sound bad to me. I do like the the TV raises the volume on the audio system automatically via the HDMI. So I gave up the 3D option, but I think I would have rarely used it at this poit, and our 55 in living room TV has 3D so not really giving it up. Both Vizio and Insignia's panels are made by LG, who made my previous TV so it is a good quality panel. for the price, you can't go wrong here.

Love the interface
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI'm a heavy netflix user so i definitely wanted a connected tv with netflix support. I gotta say, Insignia is by far the best connected tv i've tried so far. When I went to best buy i tried every single model, including Sony/Google, LG and Samsung. Honestly, I can't stand the menus and app store on all of them... with the one exception that LG's wii remote was cool. It was totally unexpected, but Insignia blew me away. The Tivo menus have the same sounds and design that i loved from my Tiro years ago.... And I just tried the fling feature of Insignia on demand. Wow... I think I like that more than even Netflix. I am a connected tv junkie, and i'm very pleased with the insignia.

Online features not worth the cost
Posted .No, I would not recommend this to a friendSummary: I bought this model TV because of it's size, promised features, the new LED tech backlight, and the low price comparatively. After about 3 weeks of casual usage, I returned it and exchanged it for a SHARP AQUOS model LC46LE840U, because the TV was continuously rebooting itself when I used my component video cable for my Wii, because the menus are sluggish, the backlight bleed was awfully noticeable unless you turned the brightness way down, the 120 Hz operation didn't buy me anything (the "smooth motion" software didn't seem to improve on anything as far as I could tell), composite video had awful response time (upscaling lag?), and the TV frequently could not connect to the internet or had miscellaneous connectivity issues. Picture Quality: Seemed OK, I was initially disappointed with how awful the black levels looked in a dark ambient lighting condition. The dynamic backlight didn't take care of this for me, I had to manually adjust the brightness setting on all my inputs to below 33 to achieve anything close to "black". It became clear immediately that the TV is edge lit, because with the default brightness settings on all the video modes, the edges (right and left) were extremely bright compared to the center of the display. That aside and fixed by careful tweaking of the limited display options available, I was actually rather pleased with the crispness of the digital 1080p image, the colors looked OK, and the brightness was acceptable. Sound Quality: What you would expect from a flat panel TV with speakers in it. Features: Awful. I don't like the menu scheme (TIVO or whatever it is). The menus looked low-res and clunky, ugly, rough, etc, and performed sluggishly. The internet connectivity was very buggy. The TV occasionally rebooted itself when using Netflix. Wireless and/or wired connectivity was difficult to initialize after boot-up. Composite/component video input had drastic lag / response time for gaming applications, even when using the recommended "GAME MODE" settings. I confirmed that other users were having these issues on Best Buy's forums and Insignia's forums. Conclusion: If you're looking for a budget "Smart TV", look no further. But in this case, you really get what you pay for. I recommend using external devices for your internet connectivity (X-box, PS3, BluRay players, PC's, etc) but don't count on the component/composite input to work well for your applications. Then instead, buy the version of this TV that is not "Smart" for a lot less money. Check out the SHARP 46" LED TV, model LC46LE840U if you're OK with spending 40% more to get what you actually want.

Q: QuestionI can't get the Closed Caption feature to work. I've tried everything, but, still no CC. Any suggestions?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer There are several possibilities for this, depending on your home theater setup. If you have tried cycling through closed caption options on your TV without result, you may need to enable captions through a connected device, such as your cable/satellite box, other set top box, or disk player. If you are not using a cable box, I recommend contacting your provider for further assistance.
