I even added power cable, and couldn't get the pc to recognize the adapter. Without adding power, I could not get the TV to recognize the adapter.

Do NOT buy this item - buy the j5 connect version ($10 more). There are no threaded inserts (holes) in the VGA end of this adapter, so the VGA cable you plug into the adapter vibrates slightly and the connections become noisy (intermittent) then the picture on the VGA screen becomes filled with lines. The i5 Connect brand HMDI to VGA adapter sold by Best Buy has threaded inserts in the VGA connector end - so the VGA cable can be tightened securely to the adapter.

Works exactly as advertised. Easily allowed me to connect my laptops HDMI output to an external monitor or a projector.

Adapter needs a micro USB power cable to work. This cable is not included, not mentioned anywhere on the box. No instructions inside either. Took all three I purchased back for a refund.
