I was very skeptical before purchasing this antenna. Felt antennas were an outdated technology but I needed something to watch football so I gave this one a shot. It had a large mile radius (40) and it was fairly cheap, compared to other products ($25). Some reviews I read said they only received a few channels. I live about 35 miles away from the closest television tower. I was able to access 50 channels from one tv. I tried the antenna on another tv (upstairs) and was able to access 90 channels. All the main stations (abc, cbs, fox) were available on both tvs, so I was extremely happy with the purchase. Also a bonus, most of these major networks were in HD, which is typically $10/month more with a regular network provider. If you purchase this and do not get very many channels, check how far the closest broadcast tower is from you at the link below (or another one, there are plenty out there). If you are within range, try turning the antenna (which is the size of an ipad) in a different direction. It makes quite a difference. (http://copradar.com/dtv/tvtower/index.html) READ (regarding setup): This antenna has no power source (which is wonderful). All you do it plug it into your tv. BUT, after you do this, you must go to your television settings and select the option under setup to set up the antenna. These instructions are provided with the antenna. Great purchase. Not sure if this is how all antennas work, but this one was great. Would definitely recommend.

Let me start by saying I NEVER review product but felt compelled to review this product. I was tasked with helping my mom cut her cable cord as she hardley watches tv and would be more than happy with only the local channels. After some brief research online I thought I would start inexpensive and work my way up till I found one that fit her needs. Fully expecting to have to return this and buy a more expensive one, I was very pleasantly surprised with this unit. Tried first to set behind the tv but didn't have a ton of success. So, I bought some coax cable and ran it to a nearby window and voila!! Ran a scan and it picked up about 40 channels!!! And they are CRYSTAL clear! The local three are perfect and the others are great. Granted, some of the the 40 probably aren't channels most would watch (shopping, Spanish, all day church, etc.) all the locals are perfect and there are 20+ channels she can watch for free. This isexactly what she needed. Because of this $20 unit she was able to disconnect her cable. I fully intend on doing the same thing at my house. I realize a lot of this depends on location and visibility but I had to do very little searching for a good location. Honestly, seems to good to be true. Give it a try, if it doesn't work well for you, return and get a better one. I assure you, I have not been paid to write this. I'm just a happy customer. Good job insignia!

A Paper Clip Worked Just As Well

Before purchasing this "HD" antenna I built one with 16 gauge copper wire that was the same size - but still thought a "store bought" antenna would provide better results than my homemade version. I was sadly mistaken. This Insignia Antenna could not even get all the major networks: ABC and CBS and FOX were receivable but the big network NBC from Nashville could not be received no matter where I put this antenna. I opened the case of the antenna to see how it was configured and I was stunned to see that the wire runs for antenna lines were nothing more than 1/8th inch or thinner foil strips covering less than 15% of the inside of the product. No circuitry to balance the signal output, no really appropriate conductive materials. I stuck a paper clip in the center of the TV's Air Antenna connector without the Insignia antenna and I received nearly all the same channels that I received with this cheaply made Insignia antenna I paid $15 to acquire. Inside configuration of this product doesn't even make sense based on what I know of antennas -- and I'm a former military radio/wideband/multi-channel repairman. Too bad there is no negative star rating (a minus star).

    Better than BIG Name Brands!

I purchased this in hopes to get some channels since I no longer have the $100/mo. BASIC cable from SECTV. I was amazed to get ABC and Philly Fox29. Tried it upstairs on my newer/smaller TV, and got 15 channels. After researching options, I then purchased the RCA Amplified antenna, which had to be plugged in (more $ to use!) and had "rabbit ears". This only gave me 11 channels upstairs, although it claimed to get more mileage channels than the cheaper one. More research, and exchanged the RCA for the MOHU Leaf (with a much longer cord), which was supposed to be a much better product. Ha! That got me only FIVE channels! Embarrassed - but convinced - I returned the MOHU and purchased an additional (cheaper) Insignia and now get 17 channels upstairs. I'm very pleased. I can't watch Hallmark or even "Action News", but I've seen "Ozzie & Harriet" and other real oldies, as well as the prime ABC shows. No need to spend more money for a big name product for sure! Would be better if the cord was a bit longer than 5 ft.

I bought this to test the waters to become a cord cutter and get rid of a very expensive cable bill. I live in the Philly area and am relatively close (less than 35 miles) from the main transmitting towers for the local network affiliates. I'm not sure how much of a roll the TV tuner plays in all this but I am receiving over 50 channels with this indoor antenna, including decent signals from other towers in a different direction that are over 50 miles away, so I am pleased. Full disclosure, this antenna is being used on the second floor, so I' not sure how many fewer channels I'd get if it were one floor down. Also, I did move it around and ultimately have it near a window for the best reception. It works for me, but the built in cord to the antenna is not very long so if you need to get the antenna near a window or wall for better reception, you will probably need to get some extra coax cable to extend your placement options.

I purchased this Antenna and a similar GE version that had the same "distance" capabilities, but it required you to plug it into an electrical outlet. In Houston, TX they both got fairly equal reception. The plug in GE however, did have better signal strength overall. I also tried both in Beaumont, TX which is about an hour and a half away from where I am in Houston. This model only received 3 channels in that area, while the GE model received 5 channels. Not a major difference, but for about the same price I would pick the GE model. If your in a populous area, and don't want an antenna that plugs into an outlet, this is good model, and does a decent job. If you need something with a little extra power, don't shy away from the models that require an outlet.

    Poor Channel Reception

We really would like to cut the cable, but were hesitant because we worried we wouldn't be able to pick up any network broadcast channels with just an antennae. This product offered a website that claimed to allow us to check which channels we could expect to pick up by plugging in our address. We were surprised by the claim that we should be able to pick up quite a few, including 2 of the major networks, making it a good possibility we could skip paying the cable company. When we hooked up the antennae we were disheartened to see we were only able to get 5 channels, 2 ION channels, the Home Shopping Network, & two christian channels. We tried repositioning the antennae several ways, but it made no difference. The channels we were able to pick up were very clear, but none of them were ones we would ever watch. This is going back. Great idea, poor performance and I am really disappointed by clearly inaccurate, misleading information on their website.

I spent over an hour trying to get this antenna to come up with all 3 local channels.Every time I moved the antenna into another direction I had to scan my TV. I moved the antenna in several different directions to no avail. I ended up returning the Antenna. I called the manufacturer of my older antenna and told them I need a part replaced and they oblidged. While waiting for the part I purchased a $8.00 antenna and my TV is working perfectly. When I went to return the antenna to Best Buys their computers were down for returns. So I had to go back to the store the next day to finalize my return. It is difficult in my area to get good reception to come thru so maybe if you purchase this item you would have better luck than I did.
