      Unexpected and very pleasant surprise

This came as a free bonus apparently from Intel for buying Intel based laptop or ultrabook. Frankly, I did not expect it and it's not like Intel has a competition in laptop area nowadays. Nevertheless, I received the Email with activation code and link within about an hour od my purchase and decided to check it out. I expected a typical gamut of demoware , shareware and wasteware that vendors preinstall on laptops to add to their profits like cinemas preview trailers before main movie to add to theirs. What I received was a complete and total surprise package of actually mostly usable to very usable software. There are total of 11 software included as of this moment. But first, before you can get to the download area you need to fill out a very brief study for Intel about you and your intended purchase of Intel-based laptop. No biggie there. Once you get to the software page, there is scrollable list of applications with very good description of what they provide in case you are not familiar with the titles. So here is a list of included applications: - Star Chart - a Windows 8 App with some very nice features for astronomers in us. Nifty way to get yourself familiar with Windows 8 Apps and the benefits they provide on touch-based screens - Snowflake - a sample of simple touch-based games and entertainment apps for Windows 8, all full-featured, not demoes - Total War Rome II - now we are talking about! This is the latest entry in the storied Total War franshise, a $60 game included in this package for free!. The game is installed in Steam, so you need a Steam account (free) to download and activate the game. This is a huge freebie, just by itself completely justifying all the nuisance of checking out the Intel-sponsored package. - Grid II - another huge entry (also Steam based) and another $60 game only recently released. Great racer. - StageLight - a $10 music creation app, that I am yet to download and sample - YouCam 5 - this starts a list of 4 titles from CyberLink, a software vendor that is controversial for their practice of selling you software and disabling it when the new version is rolled out in a year or two. - PowerDVD 13 Deluxe - a necessary DVD playing software as Microsoft does not include any capability to play DVDs out of the box in Windows (shame). Unfortunately, the code included is for a Deluxe version, a ways for CyberLink to tell you that it won't play Blu-Ray titles, as for that you need (guess what?) ULTRA edition. Buyer beware - PowerDVD has a lot of negative reviews from consumers on disabling itself in 2 years and also installing on your system a cryptic copyright enforcer program that will get itself involved any time you try to play a movie you downloaded from Internet. PhotoDirector 5 Ultra - a very solid entry that competes with Adobe Photoshop Elements and will allow you to take complete control of your photo editing. PowerDirector 12 Deluxe - another solid entry for editing your Videos The Music Experiment 2.0 - ? I am yet to explore this program and fully understand what it is capable of - Finally, Civilization V - a game that does not need any introductions. Simply the best franchise for turn-based strategy games that started some 20 years ago and still sets benchmark for all strategy games to follow. This is a basic version of the game and there are a lot of upgrades and packs available for sale that you may or may not want to buy and download. Civilization V is also a Steam game (third in this package). Now, for the buyers of touch-based laptops, this game has a mode that allows you to play it without keyboard and mouse, controlling all the interface on the screen itself. This is cool, especially in tablet mode. Hopefully this review would allow you to better understand what you are getting as a bonus and, as I said, this is a very nice way of Intel to say thank you for your patronage of Intel-based hardware.

Master Key "invalid code for this campaign"

I purchased an expensive gaming laptop for my sons birthday and am now trying to download the free "ultra book starter pack windows digital download" per email sent to me..... alas, the download isn't working with the message "you entered an invalid code for this campaign". I've spent way too much time on the phone this morning, calling Best Buy to be transferred to Geek Squad, with calls disconnected, calling Geek Squad again , then transferred to Tech Support and after 5 minutes discussion said I needed to be transferred to Tech Support (argh, wasn't I talking with Tech support?!) and then call transferred again to talk with"tech support", and than told that I need to talk to Geek Squad, so transferred back to Geek Squad. Huh? So, now the geek squad agent wants remote access to my computer....huh?!!! This has nothing to do with my computer, it's the dang code you sent me that doesn't bleepin' work.' This issue is still unresolved. I'd been on the phone for more than an hour, had commitments to meet, so I finally hung up on the agent since we were both not in good spirits, yelling at each other (I forewarned him the vicious circle I'd been through and I tried to keep my calm, but he was a bit rude too...listen to the tape). I've been a long time and loyal Best Buy customer, I'm really unhappy with the customer service on this issue. The local store is awesome but I will hesitate on future purchases with you.

      This is horrible

I purchased a new Ultrabook from Best Buy. The add said 'purchase the laptop and receive Intel Ultrabook Starter Pack Windows Digital Download code for free!' If they advertise the starter pack as something special you receive for free you would think it might be good right? Well there is zero description as to what it is, and no one on the best buy help line knows either. Plus, when I tried to download the software it gives me an error message "You have entered an invalid code for this campaign". I called into Best Buy, and they had no idea what I was talking about. The girl was unable to describe what the software was, and she told me to call Microsoft to see if they know... I'm a Best Buy fan, and am kind of bummed by this service.

Have not received the email with Link & Code 2 wks

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite 15.6" Laptop online Nov 24 and have not yet received the email with ACTIVATION CODE and DOWNLOAD Link. I've talked to a customer service representative on the phone about 2 weeks ago over a hour, she honestly I believe was trying to help, but no email. Then on Dec 3 I emailed customer service about this issue, got a reply that said I would have a answer in 3 days, still no answer. I think BB would do better with customer service and not give software packages they will not honor. This is the 2nd time I posted a reply to this product, I hope this one doesn't get blocked like the !st.
