Customers often highlight the iTrip Auto Lightning FM Transmitter's convenient charging capabilities and ease of use. However, many express concerns regarding sound quality and the effectiveness of the FM transmitter, citing issues with signal strength, static, and reception. Some users found the device simple to operate and appreciated its charging function. Despite these positive aspects, the audio performance proved to be a significant drawback for a substantial number of customers.
I owned an iTrip long ago and had high hopes for this product. The iTrip with lightning connector is well-designed. I liked being able to use the app on my iPhone to download a list of clear channels and change the channel setting. The sound quality is mediocre, which is endemic to all these FM transmitters. You have to find a clear station, and even then the sound is muddy and the bass is lacking. Every once in a while there is a burst of digital static. If you are driving long distance, you have to re-tune the iTrip and car radio as you move into the area of new radio stations. I could live with all of this, but what disappointed me was that the unit failed within two months of purchase. My iPhone began to occasionally report that the device was not supported when I connected it, and the radio functions wouldn't work. Sometimes it still charged the phone. Finally it stopped transmitting at all and just worked as a charger. When I contacted Griffin for warranty support, they quickly agreed to replace the unit. However, I had not saved the receipt (dummy me!), so they are giving me a one-time warranty replacement and no further support. The process for obtaining the replacement was unnecessarily complex - I had to create an account on their website (which returned a 404 error after I registered), take a photo of the product after destroying it by cutting the wires, and submit the photo (see attached image). I am grateful that Griffin is replacing the unit even though I don't have a receipt, but very disappointed in the quality, especially given the price. I see other reviewers had similar problems. If you absolutely need this product, SAVE YOUR RECEIPT!

The iTrip worked well as a charger but below average as an FM transmitter. I actually had to return the thing because it stopped working after 2 months. Best Buy did an exchange that was against policy but they did it anyway. The stations would often drop and you'd have to look up another station to tune to. The Belkin FM transmitter worked much better.

It took me a while to find a station that would last more than a block or two. Other stations would be strong enough to overpower this device. Even though I do like the fact that this device will charge your iPhone while in use, getting the audio from the lightning connecter has some issues when switching apps. Cuts out, having to unplug and plug the unit back in to get sound again.
