Good sound, ok battery, pretty good running buds
|Posted .Owned for 6 months when reviewed.Features
Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5I have a love hate relationship with jaybirds. This was my 3rd pair, from the bluebuds, X2s, this and also the Vistas. I’m a runner, biker and avid outdoors person. I need my buds to be sturdy, reliable, built to withstand sweat, rain, sun and daily use. The earlier jaybirds were pretty good for about a year or so and then 1 side would die. I wanted to get one dedicated for just my daily 4 a.m. runs, usually for about 1.5 to 2 hours per 6 days a week. The battery is touted to be good for 6 hours on 1 charge. I find that it’s less than advertised on volume of 60-70%. I keep the volume reasonable lower on these so I get pass through noise for sections of road running so early in the morning. Yet, on a full charge, I will only manage about 2-3 runs out of these before needing to recharge. This may be enough for a marathon but forget an ultra. On the up side, it’s fast charging. I was able to get about 10% battery after 15 minutes charging. The sound is also pretty good with these too, which is a selling point for jaybirds overall. The eartips provide an adequate and reasonably comfortable fit. Though it only allows you to wear these using the under ear position, meaning— the wires will dangle on the back and will not allow you to tuck this behind the ear. Two main cons, aside from those already mentioned, are the proprietary charging cable and spotty Bluetooth. You are out of luck if you happen to lose them the charging chord. Also, once and a while connection will drop, which I notice would happen constantly and very reliably on the same sections of my running route. I wonder if something is interfering with the signal? I don’t know why but it bugs the heck out of me that I would reroute often avoiding these areas. Not a deal breaker considering how cheap these are priced now. For what you get, it’s a pretty good deal. Also, I’ve ran with these in the snow and rain, so far they’ve kept up well and still reliably work well for my purposes. If you’re looking for good running and active buds, these are pretty good for the price.

Quality4 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5I have been using the earphones for a week, and they have been pretty useful for my needs. The positives about the earphones are that it has good sound, above-average battery life and the clearance price offered by Best buy is amazing. The mic feature is also good. The downsides are the absence of a clip, discomfort while using the earphones for a prolonged duration. And to add, I don't think the original price of 99$ is appropriate for this product. I am not sure if this is my case, but I am not able to connect the earphones to more than one device.

Solid Performer
Posted .Pros mentioned:Price, Sound quality, Use with appsThis is my 3rd pair of Jaybirds over the last few years. My first pair were the original Jaybird BlueBuds X, the X3s and now the Tarah. As the headphone jack starts to become a thing of the past, it’s nice to see some quality wireless headphones at a more affordable price point. The design on the Tarahs is pretty typical for the Jaybird line. They look similar to the X4, albeit clearly a lower cost option. Thankfully, they kept they were able to maintain the IPX7 waterproofing – so no need to worry about sweat, splashes or even brief total submersion. With 6 hours of play time, the Tarah is no slouch. I’m not a huge fan of the proprietary charging cable, unfortunately also different from the X3, X4, or even the Tarah Pro. All that being said, I actually like the design on this charger over the X3/X4. Overall, not a bad set of wireless earbuds for the price, the sound is acceptable, the mobile app is great for managing customizable sound profiles and unlike previous generations, I also find the included silicone ear tips really comfortable. My only complaint seems to be a returning issue I also experienced with the X3’s. They seem to reconnect intermittently causing an interruption in audio. I was really hoping this issue would be resolved with the Tarah. That issue aside, a solid setup and a reasonably priced set of quality earbuds.

I hate these things
Posted .Pros mentioned:Sound quality, Use with appsCons mentioned:Size, Volume, WiringTo be honest, I've never been a big fan of ear buds. To me the sacrifice you make in sound quality is never outweighed by the small size. On ear headphones always sound much better. But wearing big headphones isn't very practical for the gym, (which is where I do most of my headphone listening). I decided to give these as a shot mostly due to the reputation that Jaybird has for quality. The headphones certainly look good. The box that they come in definitely gives a feeling of quality and the color of the headphones themselves is visually striking. Included in the box are 3 different sizes of ear inserts. I tried both the #2 (middle size) and the #1 (small size) inserts. I guess I must have odd sized ears because I found the #2's a bit too big and the #1's a bit too small. I even tried using a #2 on my right ear and a #1 on my left ear but nothing seemed to fit me perfectly. Unfortunately the #1 was too small and wanted to come out of my ear but the #1 was a little big. To get good bass response out of these headphones you have to get the inserts deep into your ear to form a seal. But I found that I constantly had to readjust my headphones to keep them sounding good. The EQ that is included with the app is a nice touch but I found it to be a bit clunky to use. When you adjust one part of the range, (lows, mids or highs) it will often affect the other ranges next to it. I would prefer just a simple slider at different frequencies. Also I use my Samsung Gear for listening to music at the gym, not my phone. I don't want to have to carry my phone around when I'm working out. So I don't even know if the settings I set up in the app apply to my Gear. But the real deal breaker for me is the design of the headphones themselves. The volume controller on the right side tends to pull the right cable down all the time so that the cable won't sit evenly across the back of your neck. What I ended up doing to combat this was making the rubber cable fairly tight against the back of my neck so that the controller stayed on my neck and didn't slide around. The problem with this is that when I get sweaty the rubber cable will stick to the back of my neck and every time I turn my head to the side it will have a tendency to pull the buds out of my ears. Also I can't get to the volume controls this way as the controller is on the back of my head. Further complicating things is that when I would feel around for the controller to adjust the volume it would invariably pull the right bud out of my ear so I would have to readjust it. The design of these headphones it totally impractical for the purpose to which they were designed for. If I have to constantly be thinking about and adjusting my headphones then I don't want to wear them. I want to just put my headphones on and forget about them. I would think that running in these headphones would be even worse. I'm giving these 2 stars. 1 star because I think the design is horrible with another star added because they actually sound pretty good for an ear bud. I have attached a pic of the headphones I usually wear at the gym. I think these ones have a much better design. They have a hard "wire" that holds the headphones in place so they don't move around and they are a decent size so that they give solid bass response.

Perfect sound, tricky fit.
Posted .Pros mentioned:Sound quality, Use with appsCons mentioned:Charger, SizeI have 4 different brands of Bluetooth headsets and a couple of wired ones. I must say the Jaybird Tarah version has become my favorite despite one thing I don’t like about it. Sound: this has better sound quality than the pricy brand name I have. Clear highs and deep lows for a nice full range sounds. Accessories: the charging dock is proprietary so a regular usb charger won’t do. The App: i love the ability to adjust the sound settings to any presets or just create my own. Jaybird has done a great job with the app. It’s highly versatile and well designed. Now to the one thing I don’t like: it comes with three different size buds but the only thing is different in size is the outside piece while inner piece is almos the same size on all. Still they do a great job at keeping the headsets in place. It’s not an issue significant enough to remove a star.

Good in-ear headphones
Posted .Pros mentioned:Battery life, Sound quality, Use with appsJaybird Tarah headphones are good. They are light, have IPX7 rating which means they are completely water/sweat resistant and sound pretty well. The battery life is good (approx. 5 to 6 hours) and they support quick charging so if you want to go for that last minute run, you will need to charge them for just about 5 minutes. They come with a charging cradle and special charging cable (unlike other wireless headphones that I have had so far where the charging was done using a Micro-USB cable). I think this is to achieve IPX7 rating but this definitely is annoying as I have to always carry around one more cable and cradle. I like the Jaybird app and how you can apply different equalizer settings based on the mood, genre etc. So far, the connectivity range has also been pretty good. Overall, I think they are pretty good in-ear headphones below $100 range. The fitness people will really like them but they are good for day-to-day use as well.

Super light, Stylish, Comfortable, & Awesome App
Posted .Pros mentioned:Battery life, Use with appsCons mentioned:ChargerI love technology, especially anything dealing with music. I'm a true audiophile. These are crisp and clear, nice deep bass after adjusting the EQ in the accompanying app. It gives you a 5 band EQ to adjust to get what fits your genre of music. Also gives you presets if you listen to multiple types of music like myself. The app is a breeze to manipulate and control. Pairing was a simple process. These Jaybirds do not disappoint by any means. I use them out and about and around the house. The battery life for me was pretty close to what the manufacturer quoted of about 6 hours on a full charge. They also have a quick charge that gives you about an hour of play after only a 10 minute charge. I enjoy this because my HTC10 has a type C charge that does quick charge as well. So when you're totally jammed out and kill both, 10 minutes and you're back in the game haha. They're extremely comfortable, you hardly notice them. Made of a soft silicone gel. They state sweat and waterproof. I'm not a profuse sweater and haven't put these in water but I'll take their word for it. They come with 3 different size ear pieces small medium and large or as they call it .. 1, 2, and 3. They are a snug fit and as any ear bud you need to place them firmly to seal to get the best deep bass. .Also included is a small charge adapter. Cons- It'd have been nice if it just have a normal charge slot so you could use any charger to charge but instead you have to have the manufacturers adapter to charge which is very small and easy to misplace unless you get some sort of case for both it and your earbuds

Q: QuestionCan I use these in the pool?
Asked by bjb.
- A:Answer Short answer is no. They are IPX7 rated, which means they can be submerged up to one meter for up to 30 minutes- but this doesn’t really mean they can/should be used in a pool. And ... Bluetooth signals are blocked by water, so that’s a no go.
